Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent two nights/days at this super hotel and wish we had been able to stay longer. Our room with private pool, and our daughters’ room below, were set into the hillside looking across the valley towards Little Adams Peak with stunning views from a full width window. The beds were very comfortable with good quality linen and pillows. It was very peaceful. A beautiful basket of fruit greeted us on arrival. The décor was stylish and the toiletries smelt gorgeous. The grounds were beautifully planted. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We ate in both evenings and the food was very good. 98 Acres is just a half hour walk from Little Adam’s Peak and, in the other direction, it is about a half hour walk to the Nine Arches Bridge. We certainly hope to stay at 98 Acres again on a future visit to Sri Lanka.

Wow! If you are someone who enjoys a room with a view this is the place for you. Although our suite (114) seemed a like it could use a bit of a refresh - it was huge and we had a wrap around deck that had amazing scenery. The pool and restaurant were terrific. Great service, good food / and possibly the best samosa I have ever had. And more beautiful views! It’s a nice walk to the trailhead of little Adam’s peak. Little Adam’s peak is a lovely hike. Lots of other opportunities like zip lining, a big swing and a pool club - If you want that kind of adventure it’s available. Some reviews complain about the construction but it didn’t bother us. And our bungalow was near the road they are putting in. Only one frustration -the hotel boasts of great places to do yoga (and there are) but no yoga mats are available. The Gym is depressing - but with the natural beauty around - just go out and hike! 98 acres is peaceful and gorgeous. We didn’t want to leave! Would highly recommend. I’d go back!

This property, like much of Ella, is, unfortunately, becoming a factory of tourism. It's over. Just avoid it at all costs. The hotel, after spending three nights in a pool villa, was completely underwhelming. Sure, a beautiful spot. But they seem far more interested in turning it into an Instagram Vegas spot than preserving what was, yes, WAS, once a pristine region. Expect lots of construction. Expect non-stop parades of people walking through the hotel to walk up to Little Ella. Expect craziness and noise coming from an absurd Day resort next door (owned by the hotel) with giant Instagram swings, silly Zip lines, and a huge Vegas style pool with DJ's and bars. Expect nothing in the way of authenticity. This area is ruined and 98 Acres is as much responsible for it than anyone. While I loved the rest of Sri Lanka and found it authentic and joyful, this area, and as a result the hotel, is truly sad. Avoid the entire area. Go elsewhere. Run. Unless you like Vegas or South Beach style party craziness.

I hate giving negative reviews BUT I do this for travellers who are imminently planning a visit to 98 Acres. It’s currently a building site! If you are planning to go to relax - then my advice is to look for somewhere else. BUT - this hotel has potential to be really lovely! The views are spectacular! The location superb for access to Ella without being in the centre of the hustle and bustle. Cement mixers and building noise aside we enjoyed a 3 night stop enjoying what the area had to offer. The accommodation was lovely, a shower with a view! We enjoyed the food, service was acceptable (if a little slow). Honestly I came away sad… just because it has potential and I hope in time 98 Acres achieve their potential. My advice to the hotel is to close… finish your hotel and then invite people to stay. Don’t trick them into paying for a relaxed stay, because it is not what you are currently offering. Thank you however for refunding us for the nights we didn’t stay as we chose to move on a little sooner than originally intended. I really would go back to 98 Acres one day when the building work is done and climb up Little Adam’s Peak to watch the sun rise!

Very disappointed that it was a building site as they were building new accommodation and a new road right outside my lodge. Breakfast was ok but i found the food and service pretty average. On the plus side there were some very nice walks we went on and the village around 5 mins in a Tuk Tuk was nice.

The most amazing views I have ever seen in a hotel, could sit and look at it all day. Beautiful room, and bathroom, lovely restaurant with the same views, breakfast was amazing. Only problem I had was that there is no aircon in the room, I know its a bit cooler up in the hills, but I still needed it.

The views from your room at 98Acres were spectacular, the rooms huge and very luxurious. We also loved the food in the restaurant, the menu was large and diverse, but the quality fabulous. It would have been nice to have a separate bar for pre/post dinner drinks. The walk up to the restaurant is steep, with lots of steps, so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. We loved Ella, it's very busy and full of tourists, but 98 Acres feels as though its set apart from the business. The walk up to the top of Little Adams Peak was perfect to do before breakfast and we also loved the pool club, enjoying the zip wire and cocktails looking out at the view. There is building work going on at the moment with more rooms being built, hopefully the quality and service will continue to be as good once this has been completed.

Great location, wonderful massages, best food we've had in SL, excellent staff There's tukTuks but some steps are unavoidable to the restaurant, phone-torches were useful on those - not brightly lit but all the better to see the fireflies,

No words can describe the views from this hotel. The bed in our room was on rails and went out onto the balcony which was amazing! Also lying on the hammock at the edge of the balcony was sublime. We had dinner in the hotel both nights and the food was delicious. Breakfast was also wonderful and the views from the decking were breathtaking. So handy for walking to little adams peak and nine arch bridge (although be careful of leeches if you walk back through the jungle…especially in the rain 😬) just wish we had booked more that the 2 days we had there

We booked far in advance and specifically requested a room far away from the noisy Ravana party pool, to which we received a confirmation in response. Unfortunately on arrival we were assigned a room that was not only next to this area, but also surrounded front and back by noisy and unsightly building developments (a new access path is currently being built, plus two more chalets which were fairly central in the view from our balcony). We raised our concerns, and to his credit the manager immediately offered a decent compensation and we were given an alternative room in a much better location. We were very happy with the rest of our stay but the takeaway lesson is that it really matters whereabouts your room is located if you choose this resort. In our opinion the rooms on the left side, near to the restaurant, were in a better position than those on the right side. Overall however, we had a great stay here, and enjoyed Ella very much. The legendary views are just as good as everyone says, and the service from every single member of staff was excellent from start to finish.
