Choose from three beautiful rooms, two with 180 degree views and one with french doors opening on to a large veranda. Waterfalls Homestay is not just another guest house in Ella with a view. It is a relaxing, friendly paradise where you will feel truely at home. And only 1.5km from the town of Ella makes it definitely worth venturing off the beaten track for.

We loved it here. The views are incredible and Lakshan and Kiah were so welcoming. This is a great spot if you want to explore Ella as it's quiet but still near to the town. The breakfast was the best we've had in Sri Lanka! Would love to return here one day!

We were a group of 4 mature but seasoned travellers exploring Sri Lanka for a month. We were undecided where to stay in Ella and thought that The Waterfalls was the best place to stay.
My wife and I took the Veranda Room, our friends the Jungle Room. Ours was fine, spacious and clean. The Jungle Room, despite it's superb situation was little more than a box room. The bed took up all the space and there was not even room for the cases and no room for storage. Probably the worst room we saw in SL.
Unfortunately the owner was away in Colombo during our stay, which could account for the very poor food and abysmal service. Three of the four in the party came down with severe vomiting after their first meal. They asked for no breakfast the next morning, so none of the guests got anything at all !!! We have travelled extensively through India and Sri Lanka without as much as a tummy ache, so were very surprised to be struck down in a homestay.
Thoroughly enjoyed our few days in Ella, maybe we were just unlucky, nevertheless would not recommed this Guest House.

This is your story. This is our managers story... Only two out of the 8 people who dined communely this night complained of stomach upsets, these two guests themselves blamed this on the street food they had for lunch that day. A full breakfast was served to all our guests the following morning, the two guests with the stomach problems par took ONLY of curd, fruit, toast, tea and coffee! This is my story.... As we have only recieved wonderful feedback regarding our staff (via trip advisor, guest review book and personal emails) both when we are present or absent i have to support my staff. We maintain high western hygiene standards in our kitchen and there is no way our staff would not serve or offer breakfast to our guests. The little jungle room, which is our most popular room, is promoted as such and is cheap because of its size. There is no room for storage (our average length of stay in Ella is 1-2 days, most seasoned travellers dont unpack their suitcases for such a short time) We have provided 6 wall hooks for which to hang clothes on to compensate for the size of the room. If the jungle room is the worst room in sri Lanka you have experienced, you are obviously travelling on a completely different budget to the rest of us! I am sorry that our guest house wasnt to your liking but i STAND FULLY behind my staff and make no aplogies for them, for some reason it just sounds like a case of "sour grapes!" to me.

If you visit Ella, this is the place to stay! Book way ahead of time so you don't miss out on Karen & Martin's warm hospitality at their lovely 3 bungalow homestay. Many a traveller visited whilst we were there for the communal dinners, so that they at least got a taste of Waterfalls on their Ella visit. The rooms are all different, and so easy to relax in......spotless, with homestay touches of art, affectionate pets, loads of books & of course interesting people to meet to make your travels very special.
Breakfast on the balcony was perfect, a view of the Rawana falls, sunshine on our backs, delicious local fruit, curd & flavoursome egg hoppers were a particular highlight for our Sri Lankan addiction.
Dinner was different every night, no need to go out for a meal, this is the best.....but do try 98 Acres resort for lunch (follow the path from Little Adam's Peak that says "cold beer this way"). You'll get that and a whole lot more, priceless views, great food and tea strong enough to put hair on your chest.
I recommend an Aryvedic massage with Chandy, her experienced hands & gentle nature helped relieve my headache, and relax my tired muscles. They have a purpose built massage room with a great view, and this was a more authentic Sri Lankan massage than we had received at the tourist traps in Sigiriya and Kandy.
Thank you Karen, Martin, Chandy & all your lovely Staff,
From your Aussie neighbours,
Daniel & Rachelle x

We stayed at the home stay for one night in mid December. The road up is tricky to get to but a three wheeler would take you up there with no problem and the views up there make it worth it. Set with a perfect view of the waterfall it is a beautiful peaceful place and very clean. We stayed in the verandah room which has plenty of space and a comfortable bed. We went into Ella for dinner but the breakfast was superb. We also went on a tea plantation trip which was great. However our stay was marred by a few things. Firstly when we went to bed for an early night after lots of travelling we couldn't get off to sleep as the curtains aren't really curtains at all and let in a lot of light and other guests on the verandah can be heard quite clearly in this room. Then after eventually falling to sleep we were woken at 3am by the homes cat padding on the bed, it had come in through a small window which we were unable to shut as it was so stiff, we put the cat out and tried our best to shut the window but couldn't shut it fully and again at 4.30 the cat was back in on the bed, I don't mind cats at all, but when I am exhausted from travelling being woken up by one isn't ideal. So our stay was a mixed bag really, we were never asked how we slept or how our stay was so didn't feel it appropriate to bring up our terrible nights sleep, but I'm sure if proper curtains were put in and the stiff window was fixed our stay would have been perfect!

We travelled the most beautiful train journey from peradeniya to Ella, 6 hours of the most stunning scenery we have ever seen, we were just arriving in Ella as it got dark to find 'waterfalls homestay' when I realised that we were a day early!!! With the help of a Buddhist monk who found us wandering the trainline we found our destination a bit worried and embarrased about turning up on the wrong day, and hour later we had a room, and were sitting around a dinner table eating amazing sri lankan food with new friends!
Waterfalls homestay is perfect in everyway, the hosts Martin and Karen are two very special people, and the love that they share for each other and sri-lanka is felt as soon as you arrive, we wanted for nothing, and felt really taken care of whilst there, Karen and Martin know the local area very well and the scenery around Ella is fantastic, great little village for walking around and eating lunch, and Lanka the tuk-tuk driver knows the area well also, which meant we spent the most beautiful morning swimming around a waterfall and lagoon with two other guests from waterfalls, it was a few hours that will stay in our memories forever. There is alot to do around Ella, climbing Little Adams Peak, walking through the tea plantations, the list goes on, its a stunning area.
Dinners here are something else, really something else, Kamal and Karen dish up delicious treats night after night, sri lankan food is amazing, and at its best here, and breakfast is perfect too, I fell in love with egg hoppers and have been making them at home ever since!
There is something very special about this place, its amazing to be able to sit in a little slice of paradise with amazing scenery, and chat with a cold beer with people from all corners of the world as if you have known them all for years, we have never stayed in a homestay before, and we were SO glad to have found waterfalls homestay, you can be as social as you want to be, or not, but there is something wonderful about breaking bread together every night and chatting til the early hours, we loved every minute! I still smile thinking of laying in the hammock listening to Billie Holiday after breakfast feeling the most relaxed I have in Years! I was truly sad to leave here, and just cant wait to go back next year, we are already planning the trip!! All of the rooms are lovely too, all different but perfect, we loved the jungle room, amazing views! See you next year Karen and Martin...............Yes I want to be adopted by them too!!

This is one of the nicest places I've stayed in thirty years of travelling . The situation is magnificent , on the edge of the valley , overlooking the jungle , to the waterfalls and Ella Rock beyond . It's just a lovely place to stay . Sadly we were only able to spend two nights . (We're a bit chaotic and were late booking . Others clearly were faster off the mark ) . We had to have different rooms each night but this was all done seamlessly by Karen and her staff .
You can spend a surprising amount of time sitting looking at the waterfalls , perhaps watching the train climb slowly out of the valley . Don't worry if you miss it . You can sit for another couple of hours waiting to see the next one . The lights of the night train are particularly evocative . A cup of Ceylon Tea might help pass the time . A beer while you wait for the night train .
The rooms are very tasteful and each one is different . People in the know seem to reserve their favourite but I thought they were all very pleasant so take whatever is on offer .
I loved Sri Lankan food but at this place it went to another level .The cooking was done with real love and imagination and the variety was amazing even in our brief visit .I liked the communal eating arrangement in the evening . Breakfast on the verandah is just wonderful .
I thought Ella was the sort of place you could pass a bit of time . We had our children with us and the walks up to the waterfalls or to Little Adam's Peak were pleasant outings . I particularly liked the way the railway is the local thoroughfare . You always met people along the way and the pace of life was rather relaxed . I saw a mongoose when I was on the way to town .
So , really don't have any hesitation booking a few nights here . You will love it .
And there should be a train along in an hour or so .

It is easy to see from the moment you arrive why Waterfalls Homestay gets such excellent reviews. I agree with every good comment that the others have made.
However there are a few things that I am not sure I realised: the excellent sunrises when the whole valley turns pink; the pleasure of falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waterfall (it had rained so it was spectacular); the joy of sitting having breakfast whilst you watch the birds and monkeys all around you; the magic of the train that goes around the top of the valley 6/7 times a day; the fun of the tuk tuk on the road up from Ella; spotting the only plum-headed parakeet and Scarlet Minivet we saw (and we spent a lot of time bird watching); the great walks to town past Ella Gap; and oh so much more.
We spent 3 nights here and wished we had stayed longer as it was excellent and there was lots to do. The walk up Little Adams Peak is lovely. A trip to the weaving factory was not what we expected and really good. Slightly further away at about half an hour is Buduruwagala, but very well worth the trip. Or just sitting in Ella eating curd and watching the world go by.
We would highly recommend staying at Ella and at Waterfalls Homestay.

We stayed 2 nights there. It is the best place we have been in Sri Lanka. I highly recommande it! You need to book before! Karen is a lovely and very nice person. We felt like been home and part of family. If we could we would have stay much longer (it was booked already)! The view is wonderfull, if you like the nature, quiet and peaceful place just go there. So nice to relax there!! We have been in other places in Ella and it s not so nice! The food is delicious! Great cooks! we have been in terrasse room and studio room, the are both very nice and well decorated inside! I liked more the studio room because of the view from there, you have the feeling being in the heart of the forest. Thank you Karen. You re place is like heaven! Sonia and Ed
