EKHO Ella garners praise for its spotless environment, including pristine gardens and rooms, with a nod to the meticulous attention to detail. Nestled in a scenic locale near Ella's heart, the hotel offers stunning views that, for many travelers, justify the price. Guests have called out the railway carriage-themed rooms for their charm, despite some concerns over noise and privacy.
The amenities, noted for cleanliness and uniqueness, contribute to a luxurious stay. Service at EKHO Ella is often lauded for its attentiveness, although a few guests have encountered sporadic lapses. The tranquil, music-infused atmosphere completes the hotel's alluring experience.

The Ekho Hotel at Ella was a lovely haven of calm in a storm of noise and activity outside the driveway. We really enjoyed staying here - from the spacious train themed rooms with their magnificent view over the valley, the variety available at the buffet breakfast, and the really friendly staff who were keen to make everyone’s stay as comfortable as possible. Given the price, there are a few things they can work on in terms of housekeeping and the restaurant, but these were minor irritants.

Despite the hotel being fully booked, they managed to get our families rooms right next to each other. The property is unique, settled on a mountain with multiple levels. The back door to our room opened to a steep set of stairs that led directly to the back courtyard where the dining pavilion was, along with the stunning view of the mountains (don’t miss the sunset/sunrise). Room and bathroom were really nice, but beware of mosquitoes in the evening! Housekeeping was very, very nice and constantly checked in on us, Priyantha, Sujeewa, and Mahesh in particular! Especially when the power went out in our room the first night, they came down within seconds of me calling and fixed the issue. Breakfast (a la carte) was very tasty, although there are no fans in the semi-outdoor part of the pavilion so we were battling the flies.
One negative: this property is not very accessible. If you have trouble climbing stairs or are disabled in a way that makes it difficult to walk, this property is not for you. They don’t have an elevator and you need to take stairs to get to most of the rooms.

heavenly !!!! what an amazing location and set up. The grounds are impeccably kept, growing their own herbs and vegetables on the grounds . Nothing is too much for Dinesh who took care of us from our arrival through meals and made sure we are well.looked after. The rooms are also amazingly unique .. we had our rooms overlooking the mountains and woke up literally on top of the clouds

Reading the dithyrambic reviews, we chose this hotel to spend two nights in Ella. How can you give such high praise to a mid-range hotel at 5-star rates? We are still wondering.
Apart from the view from the garden and the breakfast fruit, there is nothing to justify this rate of $268 per night. Classic welcome with a cold towel to wash your hands and a ramekin of coriander + gougère soup in the garden, rather encouraging.
Room so called superior with garden view (see photo) of corrugated iron, beautiful and especially at the level of the only very busy road so permanent noise. Decoration actually on the theme of the train but with damaged black furniture, tiny TV, decent bedding, cupboards without light in the hallway so we see nothing. Wifi ok and safety box.
Shower room with double door that slams (to not wake each other up at night we had to block a door with a chair) and does not stay open, low-end amenities, extremely noisy VMC. Mouldy joints.....basic dirty.
No gym but a yoga class at 6am in the garden, no swimming pool. On the first evening, we suffered the pan flute from the dinner we were hearing.
Disappointing breakfast with little choice (wet plastic bread, industrial pastries in oil, three hot offers and no specialties except a rice-free fish curry). Only the fruits were good and varied.
Icing on the cake: when we left the room on the first day, the reception asked us if the staff should make the room for our second night!!!! We didn’t know that a hotel didn’t make the rooms....we travel a lot and this is the first time the question is asked.
In short, for this price, it is really a scam. We are really disappointed.

My wife and I originally booked EKHO Ella for one night, planning to extend our stay for another two nights based on the glowing reviews about their service. Unfortunately, the experience we had did not meet those expectations.
Firstly, my wife attempted to call the hotel several times before our arrival, but no one answered. This lack of responsiveness gave us a bad first impression and ultimately influenced our decision to leave after just one night. We chose to move to 98 Acres Resort instead, which turned out to be a much better choice with exceptional service.
While EKHO Ella does offer a beautiful view, it simply does not justify the $350 per night price tag. The fresh fruit juices we ordered were watery and tasteless, and the food quality was mediocre at best. To make matters worse, we found cockroaches in our bed, and the bathroom was unhygienic, with a strong odor and visible urine stains. This level of cleanliness is unacceptable for a property in this price range.
Another disappointment was their bar service. Although the property has a bar, they informed us that they do not serve beer. What was most frustrating is that they didn’t offer any alternatives, such as cocktails or wine. This lack of initiative led us to dine at Café UFO in the city center, where we had a much better experience.
In conclusion, apart from the view, EKHO Ella offers very little value for money. We cannot recommend this property, especially when far superior options like 98 Acres Resort are available nearby.

I've been traveling around Southeast Asia for over 10 years and staying mainly at resort hotels, and this is probably my most favorite. The layout of the entire facility and the interior of the rooms were warm and beautiful, and the rooms were immaculately cleaned, making for a very comfortable stay.
Above all, the hospitality of the staff was wonderful. Priyantha came to speak with us everyday and offered assistance for transportation and ideas for lunch, which we would normally arrange on a haphazard basis, so it took off a bit of troubles from us. The taxis and tuk-tuks arranged by Priyanta were ready 5 minutes before the scheduled appointment time, which I am very grateful for.
At the bar/restaurant attached to the hotel, there is a very reliable person called Sanjeeva, who was friendly yet provides smart service, and sincere that we completely fallen in love with. During our stay, he remembered our coffee preferences and brought us second cups without us having to say anything, and he did his best to explain the local ingredients and culture. We appreciated his love and pride to the hotel, but in my view, he is the one making the stay exceptional to us. He made us want to go down to the bar and have a drink to say hi to him.
The town centre of Ella was a little too noisy for my husband and I, so being able to go back to our hotel room and enjoy the views of Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak in a peaceful location made a great stay. It was great to be able to open the large windows in the room and let the outside air in. There were also a mosquito repellent and many small lights to relax in the room with a drink in the evenings. Thank you for everything and hope you all have a wonderful 2024.

A little haven in Ella which feels authentic and true to Sri Lanka. The team made us feel at home specifically Thakshila, Priyantha, Sanjeewa, Nilakshi and Janith.
The food was freshly cooked and a good variety. The rooms are well maintained, and done in a station style giving them a quaint feel with stunning views of the gap from the room and the garden. The musician who plays flute in the evening was amazing and you could feel he played from his heart.
Truly a magical experience staying here, maybe what Ella may have been like everywhere before it became overrun with standardised tourist locations to meet Western tastes and trends.
Don't hesitate in booking it.

The most amazing views in Ella. Close enough to the center that you can walk to everything but far away enough that it's calm and silent at night. They have incredible train themed rooms with a private jacuzzi. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
Staff is also so warm and welcoming, very attentive and detailed oriented. Specially Priyahtha Thakshila who made sure our jacuzzi was always ready and warm and even gave us a small flower bouquet when we checked out

From the moment we were greeted with a train whistle and a waving green flag we felt welcomed. We were treated to a special welcome of a sound bath and pipe music, followed by ginger tea and a pandan pancake. Check in was efficient. Room was large with en suite facilities and an observation area, which gave us fantastic views of the grounds and surrounding hills. Food was very good (we tried the "Go Local" from the evening menu), staff were able to advise on heat and taste, main curry was made mild for us soft westerners! The waiters even remembered how we each took our tea at breakfast. The hotel has it's own vegetable patches, so salad was super fresh. Outside Yoga was offered every morning at 6:30am, although rain stopped play whilst we were there. The hotel is a short walk from the town, which is colourful and vibrant both day and night.

Stayed for 3 nights at EKHO Ella last week. I would have stayed longer if I could have and would absolutely recommend the hotel to anyone else. I've stayed at lots of boutique hotels worldwide and this is top 3 easily. Udais (sp?) the Manager and all of his employees are phenomenal. Always a friendly smile for you and a chat, offering tea or coffee or a snack. A very special shout out to both Sanjeeva in the restaurant and Priyantha in housekeeping. They made my stay memorable - my room was always very well put together (and the rooms themselves are very well appointed, I was lucky enough to have my own hot tub) and Sanjeeva always had "my table" ready for me at breakfast and dinner. They provided me a complimentary glass of wine on my last evening at dinner and then offered to prepare a complimentary bagged lunch for me for the train trip from Ella to Kandy. It's the very small things that make a big difference and I look forward to coming back!

I recommend a HB package as you will be sought seeing a lot in Ella. There's Zip Lining which everyone will enjoy, Ravana Ella, Ravana Cave, Nil Diya Pokuna, the 7 Arches bridge.... Etc
HB should be around 25000/- to 30000/- (TRP) as you will be charged that amount with your family.
It should be even less as no foreign guests.
See offers on credit cards too
I hope this is helpful....
There are more places to choose from in the Ella area.
