The view from this hotel which looks south down Ella Gap is truly heavenly. We enjoyed a large room (10 I think) which had fantastic views through the admittedly changeable weather at the end of November when the South East monsoon was still hanging on so we didn’t sample the pool which looked very clean.
The new building next door wasn't finished, so there was some building noise at times. I really hope once this is settled down they use the resources to carry out maintenance on the old building - lots of little things needed fixing, giving it a rather tired feeling.
We ate dinner the first night in our room as we arrived very late (train problems), and had hoped just to chill, but the monkeys had apparently eaten the cables so there was no TV available - not fixed for our second night. The food was fine, breakfasts were OK (but having asked for soft boiled eggs once day they were too raw to eat), the staff were very attentive.
Compared to other hotels on our trip I don't think this was good vfm, around the same price as some boutique villas we stayed in, but I guess its reasonable for Ella.

Situated within Ella town limits, Mountain Heaven, is THE ideal location to explore Ella in all its glory, mix with the locals and visit all the places of attraction. Situated just a few minutes from Ella Railway station (which in itself is an attraction) you will be able to cross off your bucket list one of the most beautiful railway rides in Sri Lanka (and, dare I say, the world!).
On arrival at the hotel, we were given a warm welcomed in true Sri Lankan style. The views from the lobby took our breath away! The checkin was done very efficiently by the front office staff and we were whisked off to our rooms in a matter of minutes.
The rooms themselves were very spacious, comfortable and clean. Everything was sanitized as per health regulations and this put us very much at ease. The room consisted of ceiling fan, air conditioner, television, FREE wifi, coffee/tea station, hot and cold water, hairdryer, toiletries, linen and a very large balcony to admire the scenery surrounding the hotel while sipping your chosen brew.
The pool was a drop of blue nestled by trees of emerald green. Ideal to have a dip in to cool off after a day of hiking and sightseeing.
The food was delicious and presented exceptionally well. The chef took pride in his work and made sure that the guests enjoyed every meal that was ordered. Portions were generous and suitable for all pallets.
The hotel exceeded all our expectations and we definitely recommend it to all who holiday in Ella.
Finally a big "thank you" to Shammika and his very efficient team for delivering such star class service. It truly made our holiday a very memorable one!
We shall be back soon!

This small, boutique hotel has an AMAZING view through Ella Gap and across the southern plains. Our room #104 had views from every angle, including star-gazing during the night. The room was comfortable, large, good a/c and wifi, and had a huge veranda. The infinity pool overlooking Ella Gap is absolutely stunning.
So, why only four stars? Service wasn't up to standard for other small Sri Lankan hotels and the location was a steep walk into Ella village. While breakfast fruit platter was excellent, other food offerings were offerings were average. Our veranda table was missing its glass top and the room phone didn't work. The shower lacked much warm/hot water.
That said, we would stay here again in a heartbeat due to the phenomenal view.
Tip: Mobility limitations should be considered if planning a stay at this hotel--many stairs.

As with many of the other reviews this is definitely what makes staying at this hotel worthwhile. It is not a luxury hotel - I would personally say a good quality 3 star, but is probably one of the more luxurious options in Ella.
We stayed during the Christmas period and the hotel was just finalising its extension, we were literally the first people to stay in the Suite - which I think is probably one of the biggest rooms I have ever stayed in, with a dining table for 6 & enormous balcony with incredible views down the valley & of the waterfall. There was still some work going on in the hotel, which we were not necessarily expecting and the room had a few minor things which needed addressing e.g. the wardrobe had no hanging space & no tap on the sink in the kitchen area. To be honest we were only there for a night & it didn't really bother us & I am sure they are already on a 'to do' list and would take it up to a 4 rating.
One thing that's worth calling out is the staff were absolutely delightful, we even met the owner - all of whom were keen to know what we thought of the new accommodation. The breakfast was also freshly prepared & delicious.
It is also a comfortable walk down to the main town where I would absolutely recommend Cafe Chill.

We have just returned back from our stay in Sri Lanka. The third part of our trip was to Ella where we spent 3 nights at this hotel. The hotel were very professional from the start with our requests prior to arrival. We all felt that this was the best hotel out of the 5 we stayed in because of the views and staff!
The hotel is located up quite a steep hill/mountain which was a bit difficult to get to, however, it was worth the views from the top. We were greeted with fresh juice and pleasant staff. We were happy with our rooms and everything seemed to be nicely cleaned - there are a few minor maintenance issues e.g. water pressure, that the hotel could look at just to get everything fully perfect, but they were not so bad that it dramatically affected our stay. Some of our party had a leak in their room due to the heavy rainfall but the hotel staff were able to assist with this. The beds were also really comfy and the rooms were large with high ceilings. Wifi was really good and available in the rooms.
The hotel is in good proximity to many tourist attractions. We were a bit disappointed that the hotel could not offer driver accommodation. If they could provide this facility in future, it would be very useful for travellers.
The layout of the hotel is nice - be aware there is no lift but the porters help with taking the luggage up. The views from the lobby/reception area are breathtaking!!
We loved the infinity pool! It was lovely to swim overlooking a beautiful vista!
As someone who is prone to insect bites, I was pleasantly happy to not have received any whilst in Ella. We did spot a couple of small geckos in our rooms but this was becoming a regular sight in Sri Lanka so we were not too perturbed by them.
The restaurant area is spacious and also has a bar and pool table, which we played every night!! The breakfast itself was lovely, with excellent choice for vegetarians. We also had dinner there for a couple of nights which again was enjoyable. A special mention to chef Rohan who was lovely to talk to whilst we were there! He was very accommodating, making us special breakfasts each morning and we really enjoyed his company! Rohan is a real credit to this hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and recommend it for anyone coming to Ella!

Hotel modern and spotlessly clean, amazing views from every window, spacious bedroom with large, very comfortable bed. Very attractive Pool area and infinity pool. Lunch and dinner food options were limited and the lack interaction from reception staff on arrival and departure was disappointing. This accommodation was organised through our UK tour operator Selective Asia, their excellent driver and guide Chami made our recent island tour even more memorable.

My family of 5 including older teenagers stayed here for 3 nights. Driving up to the hotel, I was slightly apprehensive. As I walked into the hotel, and the breathtaking view bowled me over! The view of the Ella gap is never the same as the day progress. Its beauty never diminishes.The pictures doesn't do it justice. Keep in mind, this is a boutique hotel. Its beautiful location and charm, great service and food out weighs it star class.
We arrived the day after of the opening of the new wing. Everything was spanking clean and brand new. The rooms were very nice and clean. The odor, that some may have complained is not from the hotel, and maybe beyond the control of the hotel.
The service of all the staff members were excellent. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to accommodate. Mr. Buddhika in the front office, and Mr. Shamika in the restaurant were outstanding. My sons' room which was on a different floor, had poor internet connections, and the front office staff obliged by giving them their own router for their floor! The pool was cold, but the view from it was priceless!
The Sri Lankan cuisine in the restaurant was excellent.
I would definitely come here again!

We checked out of Mountain Heavens this morning after an incredible couple of days here. This must be one of the best located hotels in Sri Lanka as the view is just amazing, our balcony view was by far the most scenic we’ve ever seen. The staff were very friendly and attentive, always smiling. Dilahan was a great member of the team and the friendliest waiter we have met on our trip, he is a very good asset to the hotel. The food was very cheap by Western standards (fillet steak for £3.20) and was of good quality and quantity.

We stayed at Mountain Heavens for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay.
We arrived after 6pm to a cool towel and welcome drink. We were shown to our room and given help with our bags. Our room was a deluxe with a large private terrace, with incredible views! The hotel staff pointed out that the terrace was perfect to watch the sunrise, and they were right!
The room was adequate and very specious. The room did seem a bit dated compared to other Sri Lankan hotels we stayed in, but it was perfectly fine.
We received toiletries, daily fresh water bottles, hairdryer, clean soft towels and a comfortable large bed. The room also had a safety box in the room.
On the first night we ate in the restaurant, both opting for Sri Lankan dishes and they were delicious. The service was excellent and our server was very attentive. Prices were really reasonable also.
Breakfast each day was lovely. We received fresh fruit, breads, coffee, juice and eggs. We opted for omelette with added bacon.
The hotel pool was refreshing on hot days, although we only used it twice for a couple of hours late afternoon. Sun loungers are limited, as it’s a small pool area but we were able to obtain some on both days.
The hotel is known for its views and this means it’s not easily accessible, unless you want to hike up a hill. On an evening the road / track to the hotel isn’t well lit so we opted for a 500 rupee Tuk Tuk back each night.
Walking down to the main Ella road is fine, just take flat shoes!! Within 5/8 mins you are at the main spot in Ella with loads of bars and restaurants. The hotel is the perfect base to explore Ella and the surrounding sights.
This hotel was recommended to us, however booking sites were showing no availability. Upon contacting the hotel directly, they secured us a room. Communication via email was prompt and professional.
We really enjoyed our stay. I booked the hotel for the views and the pool, both did not disappoint. We would highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to return ourselves.

Initially we were booked at MH for 2 nights, but we doubled our time and stayed for 4 instead.
This is a small property (actually all the hotels in Ella were small scale) with hard working staff that are seeking to make traveler's time with them memorable and safe.
Our room was above the lobby, and the view from our balcony was just unbelievably beautiful. Ella Gap is an ever changing piece of art, mysteriously cloaked in clouds, or bright, crisp and clear. It is part mountains, part plains and 100% spectacular.
The restaurant team worked tirelessly and have wonderful attitudes. The chef came out daily to interact with the guests in the dining area, and even offered to assist me with locating a cooking class in the area. If you have time while in Ella, I also highly recommend contacting Maddie Hut and securing a cooking class with Madusha.
We did not use the pool, but many of the other guests did and the view from the pool is as outrageously pretty so lots and lots of instagram worthy photos being taken there. I popped down to the pool deck one day and found the water to be quite warm and lovely.
Note: there was a review that mentioned that there was an issue with hot water in this hotel. This hotel uses solar hot water, as did every other property we saw in Ella, so this isn't an issue for just MH, but for all the accommodations in the area. Take your shower after the sun has had a chance to do it's job and there won't be any problem with water temperature.
We were sorry to depart and could have spent even more time enjoying The Mountain Heavens. Will definitely come back if we return to Sri Lanka in the future.
