Stayed here for 4 nights and had a great time. Ali the owner is also the chef and the meals he prepared were the best ever. The fresh seafood meals that he prepared were comparable to anything that I've encountered anywhere else on the planet. Perfectly made crab, octopus, tuna, etc. The food is all made from scratch which is...

Thankfully we were warned, that ordering food here is a long term project. So we came early. At 18.45 pm we ordered the octopus curry (15.000 shilling), the grilled whole fish (15.000), a Coke light (25.000) and later a mango juice (3000). The waiter was friendly, but not able to explain anything about the menu or the dishes. Btw. Bring...

Flea-bitten animals turned into flea-bitten me. Basic, rough accommodation isolated on the beach. Didn't help I arrived to a power cut so no light and no fan in the heat. OK if you want to be totally isolated.

I've spent time all over Tanzania - in a village along the Rwandan border, in both the local and expat neighborhoods of Dar; lived with a Muslim family in Stonetown, I've stayed in luxury safari camps in the Serengeti and luxury hotels in Zanzibar and Pemba. No place has food as delicious and memorable as the seafood at Pakacha. During...

We really enjoyed our stay here. It is a very tranquil part of the island. You can relax on the beach drinking coconut milk and be bothered by hagglers far less frequently than elsewhere on Zanzibar. Our room was clean and spacious. The staff were friendly enough. One taught us how to dance in a local style. Another climbed a...

Great place to be. Value for your money. Rooms are basic, but beds are good, the shower is warm (if you've booked a room with hot water) and it is clean. Pakacha has direct access to the ocean. Amazing view. Hammocks available. We spend 5 days here and would have stayed longer if our flights wasn't booked! Good kitchen as...

I stayed at Pakacha for about a week and absolutely loved it! The rooms are quite basic but you have everything you need and for Zanzibar it's very good value. The Bungalows are located right at the edge of the beach which is really beautiful to wake up to and great to chill out after a surf. The food is...

We were there for 3 nights. Mainly for the surfing(aquaholics). If you are into surfing and relaxing at the beach, its the perfect place to stay at. The team is friendly and honest. The food is amazing but you have to order it at least an hour in advanced.

I stayed at Pakacha in July 2016 and I truly loved my stay there. It was recommended to me by the surfschool I surfed with while I was on Zanzibar, Aquaholics (which I can really recommend as well). Pakacha has nice basic private beach bungalows with big beds, a private bed room, warm water and your own little porch with...

We stayed in one of the basic bungalows (no hot water or air con) only problem is that sometimes we didn't have water at all! We had a large double bed with connecting private bathroom although the bathroom was rather tired and dirty. The room is perfect for travellers that don't expect too much for their money and are happy...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Pakacha Bungalows is a small locally owned hotel situated in Bwejuu on the south east coast of Zanzibar. Stay at Pakacha Bungalows and enjoy the great atmosphere here. In a tranquil setting of Bwejuu fishing village located about ten minutes' drive from the busy Paje lies the locally owned Pakacha Bungalows. Ali Chamnda, the owner, general manager, head chef and gardener of the little hotel is an extremely sweet and passionate person, who enjoys nothing more than meeting new people and showing them his wonderful Zanzibar. The five bungalows with its nine rooms are spaced out over the property surrounded by scattered palm trees and local fauna straight on the beach. Pakacha's nine rooms, spread over five bungalows, are built in Swahili-style with traditional 'makuti' thatched roofs. Single-, double-, or triple rooms are available, as well as two self-contained bungalows each with its own kitchen. All our rooms are close to the sea and you will enjoy the nice cool breeze from the ocean every day. Each room is equipped with an en-suite bathroom, fan, and a mosquito net. Its local-styled restaurant is renowned for its quality in food and is often visited by expat managers of five star resorts from all around the island. A great relaxing vibe with very friendly people make this place a safe haven from the rest of the world. ... more   less

“We had a standard room, it was nice, clean and had a balcony, sufficient as you don't stay much in your room.”
jananatalie, 11 Dec 2014 | Read review
“Our room with en suite bathroom, faced closest to the beach was brilliant. It also had an upstairs balcony area under the thatch roof where you could sit and meditate/read and so on in total privacy :) I didn't see inside the bungalows, but there are only around 6 or so bungalows all up which were all pretty much the same I believe, and some others had kitchens as well. There is very exclusive feel because it was so small and everybody easily chats to the few other guests in the restaurant etc. Probably the rooms could do with a bit of an overhaul...our bathroom needed a bit of TLC, but it was a small price to pay for such a wonderful location and everything else. The beds and mosquito nets in our room were fine and we also had a large desk and chair, great for aspiring writers to sit watching the sea and writing that next romantic best seller. No better place to do so for sure!”
