We stayed at the Reserve's Lion Lodge for 6 nights. The food was very good and the staff was gracious. The Sebatana Reserve has no predators or elephants or rhinos on it (which is why we had to go to other national parks to see them). On the Sebatana reserve we saw every kind of antelope South Africa has, giraffes, baboons, zebras, wildebeest, crocodiles and many birds. The Night Game drive was OK; we only saw an aardvark, but our guide was able to keep it in view for nearly 5 minutes. We also had 3 meals prepared for us out in the bush featuring local game which was delicious. The September weather conditions were very dry and as it is moving into spring there we saw the vegetation beginning to green up. The Lion Lodge consists of individual "cottages" that feature a traditional tribal look. Everything was clean and comfortable. There is a common dining area, which is open ( but covered) so it was like dining al fresco. The general décor was lovely. There is a small gift shop there featuring almost exclusively items made in SA; many handmade. One word of caution -- the home office for this reserve is in Denmark. The only phone # we got was for Denmark. This office does not seem to have good communication with the Reserve. Be sure you get firm plans for transfer from the Johannesburg airport to the reserve which is 3 hours away. This was the only snafu we encountered, but it was a big one.

My sister, two nieces, and I visited Sebatana Private Reserve July 7 - 14, right after the South Africa government raised the COVID level so that people were not allowed to travel in and out of Gauteng province. We considered postponing our trip, but the staff was able to reassure us they had the required permits to transport us and that they are in a remote area so it was safe for us to visit. We had a great time. Most people had canceled for the week, but Sebatana staff still provided the same itinerary they had promised. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was outstanding. My 17-year-old niece has traveled with me to several international destinations and says this was her favorite trip. Highly recommend.

We got in the 7th and were worried about the lockdown in Johannesburg but had no trouble. Customs was easy and Sebatana staff met us at the airport. The resort is in a remote area We are glad we decided not to cancel.

I was at the Sebatana Rhino lodge in November 2019, and it was a wonderful holiday, a memory that I will treasure for ever. The staff at Rhino were warm and welcoming and serviceminded. The food and wine were excellent, and I enjoyed the happy hour at Rhino bar with Matswani Sunset cocktail. Me and my travelling companion bought the full safari package, and we loved to watch all the animals, birds, trees, plants and insects, which the tour guides told us interesting stories about. Before I went on my trip, I wished to see giraffe, zebra, elephant and lion, and I saw them all. I wasn’t particularly obsessed with seeing “The Big Five”, but we saw lion, buffalo, rhino and elephant. The safari trips started early in the morning, and we went early to bed in the evening. We had an enthusiastic tour guide with us from Norway, who arranged competitions for us together with the Rhino tour guides, so it was fun to take a part of that. I had a nice room, me and my travelling companion shared a bungalow that was always clean. I also enjoyed the Tribal evening, where young people in traditional costumes sang and danced for us, they also got us tourists to dance with them. We also had a delicious dinner that evening. They’ve got a small gift shop at Rhino, and an even bigger one at the neighbor lodge (The Lion lodge), and I have bought most of my Christmas presents there. All in all a great experience.

This place is absolutely amazing. Located in the middle of a private reserve with giraffes, zebras, warthogs, kudus impalas etc, this place is just everything you need, if you are looking for a beautiful quiet place to relax, and yet get some unforgettable experiences. We were so well taken care of, everything was just perfect, the food, the atmosphere, the tours ... There were guided walks in the bush, trips to nearby Welgevonden Big 5 national reserve (we saw three of five: elephants, hippos and lions), and a little further away Pilanesberg, a night with tribal dances and local food etc. The staff really made us feel comfortable and at home, the chefs Queen Elizabeth and Mrs. Universe, the barkeeper Simba, all the other staff, whose names I don’t remember who made sure we were taken care of in such a warm and kind way - and last but not least, our two local guides Tiaan and Klaas with their love and passion for the place, the plants, and the animals, served with a great sense of humor.
