Our stay at Edge water Wanaka was clearly one of the highlights of our visit to New Zealand. These lakefront villas are absolutely gorgeous, well planned, spacious and just what you need to sink in and relax on a holiday. The kitchenette is well stocked up while the warm n comfortable living room opens up to a deck which gives access to the lake. You are greeted by a flock of ducks :). The living room has a nice patio and a quiet corner to read a book in the backdrop of the lake. The Christmas radio made our stay truly memorable. The views of lake Wanaka from the property is a sight to behold and the Wanaka tree is just about 100 meters away.
The restaurant has warm Woody wibes and offers a good selection of wine and bread. Quite a selection of delectable food. Being a vegetarian, I enjoyed their falafels, chips, pumpkin soup and burgers. Excellent hospitality at the restaurant.
House keeping could be slightly better as we saw tissues lying around after cleaning.
Overall, it was an amazing stay and we are definitely coming back !

We spent 3 nights in a Garden View room at the Edgewater. The room was nice and big, so was the bathroom. The shower was in the bathtub, no walk in shower. The room was warm and cozy, had a balcony and you could see the lake from the balcony. There was a room downstairs with a washing machine and dryer, however our clothes were still pretty wet after 1.5 hours in the dryer. "The Wanaka Tree" is only a 5 minute walk away, and the Roys Peak Track only a 5-7 minute drive - we loved the location. We got some great advice from the receptionists in terms of things to do in the area, and they had lots of brochures at the entrance so we could do our own research. All in all a very pleasant stay, we will consider coming back next time we're in Wanaka.

Best hotel of our NZ trip so far. Stayed one night between Queenstown and Franz Josef; clean, hugely spacious suite with comfy bed, kitchen, lounge/dining area and much-appreciated washing machine. No aircon, but powerful fan in the room.

Hotel is right by the lake (I suppose 'Edgewater' was the clue, really?) and the waterside walk into Wanaka is very pleasant. Friendly and engaging staff - in particular, Gaynor (in the breakfast room) and Bob (who seemed to be multitasking, wherever we looked)

Great breakfast. We were told, when checking out, that our room was their 'honeymoon suite', which would explain the double shower and the huge bath. Only sorry that we were here for just one night and didn't, during our whistle-stop tour of NZ, have the energy to behave like honeymooners; maybe next time........

This hotel trumpets its 4 star rating on its website. We didn’t have a 4 star experience, far from it.

Written feedback has already been provided to hotel management prior to posting this online feedback and for some of the issues raised, we have received an apology.

Specifically (1) the hotel seems to have changed its check-in policy (from 2pm to 3pm) before we arrived to check in, but no one bothered to inform us. Our hotel ‘Reservation Confirmation’ issued 2 weeks before we were due to check in, reflected 2pm as being the earliest check-in. Furthermore the change (to 3pm) wasn’t mentioned in email correspondence we had as part of our booking. On arrival (after 2pm) we were made to wait for our room to be ready. Had I not been travelling with an elderly family member (90+ years) on his last trip to the South Island and after a several hour drive, it wouldn’t have mattered as much. (2) Our biggest surprise and disappointment was not being able to have dinner in the hotel restaurant.. No one informed us when making our accommodation booking that a booking was recommended/required and there was no mention of it on their website. Furthermore the normal dinner menu had been replaced with a set 3 course Valentines Day menu (for $109pp) again without any mention on their website or in our Reservation Confirmation or in our emailed correspondence. When I expressed our frustration and displeasure with both aspects, we were informed (with a 'take it or leave it' attitude) the best they could do was to seat us outside (in the heat) and if we didn’t want the Valentines Day set course offering, the only other option was to have a snack offering from the bar. We declined both. Their website makes quite a fuss about the dining options available in their cafe and restaurant, yet they omitted to mention anything about a booking being required or that there was only one (Valentines Day-themed set 3 course) dining option that night. We felt ambushed. Having no dinner that night, we were left with only breakfast to look forward to. (3) The following morning’s breakfast offering could only be described as mediocre and not as good as the Distinction, Scenic, Heartland or Rydges Hotels we had been staying at on our South Island trip. The cooked (hot) food was tepid at best, there was limited choice compared to these other hotels and some of the crockery hadn’t been washed properly which I pointed out to a staff member.

As much of the other Trip Advisor feedback refers to, this hotel is blessed with being in a great location. Based on our one night stay experience, it seems to be masking a number of fundamental issues that need management’s critical attention. Put another way, if they weren't in such a great location, they might not get away with the subpar performance we experienced.

We were delighted with our recent stay at Edgewater. The light airy suite was spotlessly clean, and was just perfect for our family of four. The facilities were maintained to a very high standard with four big spa pools, a sauna and a good range of top quality bikes for hire.
Situated where it is, just on the edge of the lake and Wanaka township you enjoy the best of both worlds - peace and serenity, while only being a short walk (either by street or lake side) to the Wanaka shops/restaurants. The grounds are beautifully presented, with ample room for you to enjoy a sense of spaciousness and the views are divine. We look forward to our next stay.

We stayed for 2 nights and it was always very quiet and peaceful. The beds are nice and luxurious with well equipped rooms. There are 3 spas on offer with a sauna - perfect after a day of adventuring. However, a separate shower or bath would be better as well as adding air conditioning to the rooms. The morning views of the lake and the pond are well worth staying here for

Room size is great and views are good.
There’s a washer dryer machine in one - but it’s not a machine that I feel is easy to use.
Potential to be great is there but the bar cafe area is a massive disappointment. The service from bar staff 1/10.
20 minutes to get 1 x beer and 1 x mixed spirit. 5 x staff standing around and 1 person whom I believe never served a drink before and didn’t know how to do it or what glass or what to charge or how to use register. The $16 for Pims and lemonade !!!!
Only to discover the lemonade had run out and it tasted awful. So it was finally replaced. The manager spent the entire time schmoozing 2 customers his own age, he talked to them for at least 25 min and was still at it when we left. I had wanted to discuss the poor bar service but couldn’t get his attention. The money you must lose on drinks is crazy.

The rooms are not air conditioned and there is no lift.

The hot water is limited and a note I. The room tells you.

With beds being made, kitchen cleaned and units always warm makes for a very relaxing family holiday. Good location with nice views and not far from the main town. The kids had large areas to run around and a playground and the bar has a lovely open fire.

Although the hotel is a little dated it is very comfortable, in a great location, nice views if you have a lakeside room and there is a good restaurant on site. There is also free parking within the hotel grounds. We had a 1 bedroom apartment style room which was a great size and had a kitchen facility too. Pricing was very reasonable.

Hi Sameera G, in terms of a view of the lake and mountains either room type is fine. Our one bedroom suites however are a lot more spacious than the studios - they have a separate bedroom, kitchen and dining area, washing machine/dryer in the bathroom. The suites are great for stays longer than one night when you may want to unpack and spread out. We have both room styles on the ground floor and first floor and you can let our staff know your preference when you make your reservation. Kind regards Mike Barton

Hi I’m sure you can get a lake view but you won’t get one from the bedroom, from our room we could see the lake and each room has its own little terrace and the grounds lead down to the lake
