Nestled in a tropical paradise, the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Hotel Fiji - Sonaisali Island captivates guests with its serene and welcoming atmosphere. The immaculate condition of the premises and rooms is regularly highlighted by visitors, though some express concerns over the property's remote location. While the resort's pool and dining facilities are popular, opinions on the room decor and activity offerings are mixed.
Service quality receives acclaim, yet inconsistencies, especially in dining services, are noted. Additionally, the value proposition is a point of contention, with several guests feeling the costs outweigh the benefits provided.

Detailed Reviews
This was our first trip to Fiji and we were traveling with my son and his family with a 2 year old, they didn't bring in his cot until 11pm on arrival, rooms were spacious but needed updating. There was not much choice of foods especially for the children. I expected lots of fruit not much choice. Service was very poor ( waiting over a hour just to get our orders taken) we asked the staff several times. our 2 year old was screaming as he was tired and hungry. Also don't expect room service for cleaning done in the morning it can take all day. It would cost taxi fares if you wanted to go anyway as the resort is isolated. They say they welcome all with a Hilton famous cookie, depends what time you arrive for this. The pool was a good size for all however not enough chairs / deck chairs nor undercover near the pool. Overall extremely disappointing.

My family group holidayed at Double Tree Hilton over the Christmas New Year period and were rather disappointed, for the name and money we expected considerably more. The hotel rooms are tired and with make do repairs. The rooms are clean and of a good size, with comfortable beds and a nice balcony, the shower leaked and the bathroom doors in my unit did not close. There was a cyclone while we were there so understand linen was a problem during and after, our group was constantly chasing towel, bathmats and the washers and hand towels were rarely replaced, before and after the cyclone threat
The pool is the highlight of the hotel we all enjoyed very much, great for kids of any age. The spa is terrific and enjoyed by the women of the group, excellent treatments on offer. The food was below average and very expensive for what it is. Kids eat free with adults, there is little variety in the menu. Breakfast was ok, thanks to the egg station. Room service is very slow. Drinks are expensive and I was concerned about how well the glasses were cleaned. The staff are wonderful, the majority of them very friendly and helpful, they work with what they have and during the threat of they cyclone worked hard. I could not fault the staff, management need to spend money on improvements and lift the quality of the food. Location wise it is ok and transport to sights is easily organized but be careful who you book with, could end up costing you a lot more than it has to. We had an enjoyable time but would not return to the hotel if and when we visit Fiji again.

Really enjoyed my 1 week stay at DoubleTree. The staff were super friendly, always greeting you by name and going out of their way to make sure you have a good time. You felt part of the hotel family! There are too many to thank individually by name.
The pool was incredible and there were always enough sun loungers available. The pool bar was a real highlight.
The room itself had everything I needed, I was in a Queen room in the hotel building (not a Bure) and it had a nice balcony that looked out to the ocean. It was conveniently located near the Tavu restaurant and the pool. The rooms are well insulated so had no issues with any noise. Had a spacious room with two queen beds and a big bathroom with a bath, lovely! Although there was a wide selection, the quality of the breakfast buffet items was average - but, as I didn’t have this included in my package, I favoured the alla carte menu instead. Much nicer food and was cheaper than the buffet anyway.
The lunch and dinner items were consistently good, although the food service was hit and miss a lot. One night it would be efficient and you’d get food within 30mins, and the next you are waiting a while to have your order taken and then an hour wait for food. I learned to go early and prepare to be there for a while (I was alone so I brought my book) and try to adopt a Fijian time mentality. There was one staff member who would acknowledge the long wait and waived drink charges from my bill without me asking which was appreciated, but the rest of the staff seemed oblivious to how long it was taking. On the flip side, the room service was excellent and food would arrive fresh within 15mins of ordering. There is a $7 fee but when you are really hungry this was a good option and I was happy to pay it to save waiting an hour at the restaurant. The room service menu though is sadly limited.
Overall, aside from the food service that needs improvement I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would happily come back again.

Issue after issue at this place. It is over priced and the service is slow. We were moved 3 times, once due to a smell in the room and the second time was because the power went out. It took them hours to send someone to have us moved. We spent most. of our time on this trip waiting for people to come assist us. The food is only a small variety and if they do a buffet there is very minimal food to choose from and your will be charged $55 per head or $75 when they have their Fiji night every Friday. I paid for a premium room and was downgraded and put into a normal room which was not ocean view. I paid $5k for the room and went down to dispute this and was told they cannot really do anything or provide any refunds and to come tomorrow to discuss with the shift supervisor. On New Year’s Day we were in the pool buying drinks from the bar and the next day after viewing our bill as we had been charged multiple public holiday charges which nobody informed us about. We ordered room service and saw later on our bill that there was a $7 tray charge which we also weren’t told about. Our keys would randomly stop working and as our room was quite far from reception it was so frustrating to keep going back and forth. We walked to reception to fix the key and came back and it still didn’t work! The list of issues goes on and on. Save yourself the headache and find somewhere else to stay!

The hotel is located at a 2 min boat ride from main land ferry point (near Sonaisali). The hotel security is stationed there, and helps with the boat transfer.
The entry to the hotel is beautiful, crossing green lawns and trees. The lobby is big enough, but was crowded since the hotel was at full capacity when we checked in. It took them 1.5 hours after the slated check in time to give us a room, but they did upgrade us.
Our room was an independent ocean view bure (villa), which was 20 metres from the Pacific Ocean. It was extremely luxurious and well built. Big king bed, large flat TV, a large balcony with two chairs, plenty of storage space in the room. There were some electrical and furniture issues (broken door lock), but these were resolved quickly. The only issue was that the lighting was less, but was manageable given it is a beach resort.
The spacious bathroom had a rain shower and two wash basins. Water pressure was very good.
We had a very good first day. On our second evening, Fiji was hit by a tropical cyclone (Sarai), which disrupted everything. We were without power for over 20 hours in the hotel (a few rooms only). The phones didn't work and the hotel was thinly staffed to handle the guests. They need more training in guest relations, where they have more empathy and finesse in handling guest situations, given it is Hilton property. We were told that these weather situations are common in Fiji. Unfortunately, the hotel staff us not equipped for such disruptions.
Overall, it is a beautiful property which would result in an excellent stay when all is good. Alas, for us that wasn't the case.

+1
We were excited to travel to Fiji again and had high hopes for the trip to this resort, being a Hilton property. We stayed in room 106 in a 'block' of rooms, not one of the separated bures. The accommodation was comfortable enough, but noise from adjoining rooms is easily audible, which is a little frustrating. The floor was tiles which makes sens with the amount of sand around. The beds were a little hard for our taste and the pillows far too soft, but as its really just somewhere to get out of the heat and lay your head for the night, it wasnt a big enough issue to detract much from the holiday overall.
The pool is nice and the view is simply spectacular, but you'll need to get there early to get a lounger pool side or with shade. The cobblestones get extremely hot so make sure you take footwear with you.
The restaurant is nice and the food is adequate, but it does feel like they are probably 10 staff members short, as they all seem to have multiple roles, so wait times for things can be longer than you'd expect, and service by the pool can sometimes not be available
As with any Fijian trip, the people more than make up for any little issues you have, or experience. Its half the reason we go back there for our holidays. The smiles, the energy, the laughter and fun they have, the fact they dont turn their heads away and are always ready with a friendly "Bula" whenever they see you.
As stated in the title, the resort needs refurbishment. The room we stayed in was dated, the shower roof looked like it had either a water leak or someone had hit it with something which I managed to do easily at my height of 6'2". There were some refurbishment taking place as we were there so perhaps the room we stayed in would be having work done on it soon.
End of the day the resort is value for money, friendly, clean and a nice quiet place to stay. It feels like they are going through some changes at the moment, and could do with some additional service staff to enhance the experience.

First of all, this resort is located off the Nadi town away from everything else so this place is truly inconvenient as you need to take a boat ride to the main island then a cab to get to anywhere. No airport shuttle provided and their taxi operators severely overcharge you. Should you choose to stay in the resort all day, the water sports are manned by just 1 staff leaving minimal supervision. Food options in the hotel are limited and overpriced and the staff can take up to 20 mins just to get you a glass of water, so imagine how long your food will take. Rooms are poorly maintained, with ants crawling around and our toilet bowl having rust on it. Worst of all, they charged me for a complimentary night I got from my credit card under the guise that it was a deposit and even after discovering the error on my credit card statement they refuse to acknowledge my emails taking more than 5 days to reply and even when they do reply, it's never to resolve the problem. DO NOT STAY AT ALL COST.

This resort is very promising! The rooms are lovely, the location is idyllic, and the pool + bar is great.
I was really happy... until we had to eat. This resort is out of the way, so the only food options are at the resort itself. The food is just plain awful. It's overpriced, tastes gross, and their drinks are just OK. Given that they charge a lot for the food, and they are so remote as a location, the food is just a deal breaker. I would not stay here again because it was so disappointing.
Shame, because if the food was good - this would be one of the best resorts.
A couple of other things: our bathroom wasn't cleaned very well whilst we stayed there, the cleaning staff didn't close our room door properly, leaving it unlocked, the drinks (cheap!) are not very good, and the store at the resort didn't have a working Point of sale, and the staff weren't very helpful.
I feel this resort is also showing its age - the technology was sub-par for 2020.

The staff at this Doubletree were amazing. From the boat taxi drivers that took you back and forth on the very short 3 minute trip across the small bay to the Front Desk, Housekeeping and Restaurant staff all were genuinely happy and pleased you were there and always welcomed you with a warm Bula! Even the signature Doubletree chocolate chip cookie was good.
The hotel grounds were spotless and our hotel room was updated, clean and had adequate air conditioning and a well functioning refrigerator. There was no issue with getting daily housekeeping and the complimentary breakfast buffet was amazing every day.
The pool was always clean and not overly crowded and there is a swim up bar available although we often saw that bartender overwhelmed with work. Maybe tine to add a second bartender there? There were plenty of beach and swimming pool chairs and fresh towels available. The sunsets were stunning.
A few things to keep in mind. There is not a beach or crystal clear water here. The water, while pretty, is in a bay and doesn't have the clarity you will find if you take a boat trip (we took 3 such trips) out to other islands to snorkel and swim.
The resort is about a 30 minute ride from the Marina where the boat tours are located. Personally, I loved the semi-remote peaceful, tropical feel of being isolated from the "town" and all of the other activity. However, once you get back to the hotel in the late afternoon from an all day tour you probably will be tired and not eager to get cleaned up and return to town for dinner. That means you have only a few dining options at the hotel. The theme night buffets ranged from pretty good (Seafood) to fair (Italian & Hamburger night). There is also an option for ala carte food orders (Pizza & limited Sandwiches) or an upscale, reservation only restaurant with prices to match.
This is a quiet resort. Do not look for big parties or nightlife. There is varied entertainment
at the buffet nights. The native dance and fire twirling act on the Seafood buffet night was excellent! Having been to resorts where there is a party atmosphere throughout the day and night, we absolutely loved and preferred the tropical ambience and beauty of this hotel and staff over that of a more "lively" location.
Lastly, if you arrive early or leave late I would suggest arranging ahead of time to pay extra for early check-in or late check-out. Even with my Diamond status getting approval for either was very, very difficult and not what I anticipated (maybe one hour) because the hotel was full. I did however receive the friendliest and most sincere "I'm sorry but we are full" response I have every received though so there's that.
Would we stay here again. ABSOLUTELY! Vinaka to the Fiji Doubletree staff for a great vacation.

ABSOLUTELY! Vinaka to the Fiji Doubletree staff for a great vacation.

your location has you over a barrel to where you can eat so you over charge for everything. $10au for 1.5 litre water where i could get it for a $1 at the supermarket. your buffet breakfast was $35au. we had 2 adults and 2 youths to feed. none of us like to over eat so would not get any value for the price. even if we did over eat would still not get value. similarly with you buffet dinner. the cheapest was for pizza night for $48 each!! i could barely eat 1 whole pizza to myself let alone $48 worth. it was lucky we had a car so we could get supplies and shop around for dinner. but this was very inconvenient as you had to travel at least half an hour to eat.
also, we went to help ourselves to a coffee from your machine only to be told that we cant have it because we didnt pay for breakfast. really??!! weve just paid 12 nights for $732.5 per night fiji and we couldnt even have a simple cup of coffee??!
room service was hit and miss at best. there were 4 guests in our room yet on multiple occasions were only left with 2 or 3 towels. when the room was made up they would take the 4 towels and replace them with 3. they would also take 1 or 2 towels of the 4 and leave us with 3! unless i made it plainly obvious they would not address it, like replacing the cutlery. there needs to be an exhaust fan in the bathroom also.
overall i would not recommend your hotel. there are plenty of other hotels like on Denerau where you have access to plenty of restaurants and access to day trips right there. your hotel offers nothing but an accommodation and if you want anything else you have to pay big dollars for.
the only positive was the most of that the staff were friendly.

Mike, we got the hotel to arrange everything for us. Taxis also available where the bus collects u from. Very reasonable from a cost point of view. Denaru is where most tours and boats leave from. Approx 30 mins - 45 mins. Enjoy your trip. Paul
I would always recommend travelers to contact the establishment directly. I do that all the time if I am not sure, and the staff will let you know.
most rooms have both options
The resort is on a private island, only guests are ferried across the little estaury so there is no confusion. You cannot walkalong to this resort form others, it is very seperate.
