Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Nestled close to the Fijian waters and conveniently located near the airport and local attractions, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa garners praise for its spotless environment and vibrant atmosphere, including cultural nights and live music. While the rooms are generally clean and comfortable, some guests have noted drawbacks such as noise and outdated amenities.
However, the service received high marks for its warmth and efficiency, and the resort's ample amenities, including the luxurious Waitui Beach Club, are a highlight. Despite some concerns over costs, particularly for certain extras, many travelers find the overall experience worth the expense.

Detailed Reviews
We planned a very special two week getaway (left little ones at home) and arrived to Nadi the day of the Cyclone. Our travel plans got messed up due to the weather. We rebooked at Waiteau (adults only section of the property) and had an amazing stay. The hotel was at full capacity and were still doing there very best to not turn anyone away. We rode out Cyclone Sarai in room 131 and highly recommend this room during a storm. It was quiet, cold (AC worked so well), we had blackout shades, and managed to sleep very well the night the storm passed. The staff worked so hard to keep guests entertained regardless of age. The spa was open and ready to serve guests, all three restaurants were up and running and food and beverages were plentiful. They set up two adorable kids stations to keep families entertained which included hair braiding, movies, arts and crafts, etc. We were so impressed with how well this hotel managed during a major weather crisis.

Our 10th visit to Fiji several times at Sofitel. Still fab property the much needed refurb adding good improvements to property however only one side of resort is completed so our room was not new. Negatives Beds in old wings are tragically hard and small (double) very uncomfortable (hopefully new beds once refurb ) will improve long stays like ours 12 nights would be nice if 2 queens in 1 room for families and or adjoining doors to make bigger family rooms only caters for 2 adults and small children (family room bunk beds) not family with teenagers. Great fluffy pillows though. Asked for walk in shower as climbing over bath tub to shower is not pleasant. Spacious rooms house keeping amazing daily, really good air con. Beach club very flash and food better shame its made the adults only the superior part of the resort as its a newer addition you did feel like poor cousins staying at family area.Suggestions for the sofitel move the ice cream shop/towel area closer to the middle of the pool area. add into ice cream/towel area (made to order all day sushi, salads, freshly squeezed juice, fruit platters, (pots of pineapple/water melon) sandwich bar (toasted sandwiches) would be a winner people would be flocking in no pre made made to order only ...order get a buzzer to collect when ready! as pool menu boring never changes basically pizza burgers chips. New Bazzar Kitchen fab idea we all loved it went 3 times.Rest of stay fabulous only negative about Fiji in general its very expensive prices continue to rise each year esp food/drinks all resorts/marina restaurants, plus transfers to islands for day trips for families $500 to $600 + and accom prices are expensive means Fiji are really pricing themselves out of the NZ/Aussie market hence why everyone goes to Bali/Raro/Vietnam better value real shame as i think Fiji is amazing and peoples would flock in if prices went down and they would be pumping all year round (not just school hols which is the most expensive time) like they used to years ago spoke to locals Fiji becoming more and more quiet unpopular destination for Pacific tourists. Positives are so close to NZ/Aussie short cheap fight, great snorkeling, great islands, great people, great service, Lots of choice/variety of resorts/restaurants Denerau, great climate/weather just big $$$$$$ family trip 4 adults (2 teenagers) 12 days $8-10k easy.

Very happy with Sofitel, would definitely stay again. Friendly staff. E.g. had sunburn & reception brought me after sun gel. Always happy to help. Fantastic pool (compared to Sheraton & Westin –much bigger & had island feel with palm trees etc). Special thanks to Ana by the pool who was lovely, remembered your name & had great service! Cocktails could be served with paper straws to be environmentally friendly, loved Sofitel did this!!! Got all benefits of Gold Accor membership & there were many. Had massage at So Spa & it was amazing (it also had Gold member specials). Cocoon shop near reception sells tickets for Bula Bus ($8 for 1 day or $24 for 5 day). Did not pay for beach club access. Sofitel is only 2 stops from Marina which has many restaurants & where most day tours leave (great for hotel pick ups as you can sleep in). Marina also has a local supermarket called “Yeez”, so you can buy affordable soft drink, fruit, snack food, beer etc. Marina has free entertainment 6:30pm to 7:30pm (Fiji time). Bula bus stops at all other 5 star hotels so you can have a look or go for dinner to explore. There is a Westpac ATM in the strip of shops near Sheraton which Bula Bus stops at. Went to Sivua Island with Captain Cook on big tall ship – great small island offering snorkelling off beach, lots of little sharks (size of very small fish) in knee deep water. They had the BEST buffet we ate while in Fiji. Lots of bean bags/shelter on island for relaxing. Also did Captain Cook Sunset Cruise. This was good but bit pricey for what it was, but was something different to do other than an island cruise & did give great view of sunset. Also did Coral Cat day tour. Was on Catamaran offering more of an adventure ride & fun trip (only 15 people on board, not suitable for prams or very small kids). Perfect for adventure, reef diving in deeper water (as opposed to snorkelling off island shore walking into water) - much better snorkelling seeing coral and fish. Tiko who ran it was great. Both tours were booked by Sofitel tour desk. Taxi to Sofitel from airport was $30 (some charged $35 so barter) but from Sofitel back to airport was $45 as hotel organizes private cars. Taxis don’t have eftpos so carry cash. Would definitely stay at Sofitel again. Service was exceptional. NOTE: Travelled Nov 2019. Was so good started booking another trip back in 2020, but due to Covid-19 border closures had to postpone. But was AMAZING, especially the pool! I'll be back. Thanks Sofitel.

We were here for 3 nights in October and returned for 6 nights for christmas as we had enjoyed the stay!
Rooms are very old and run down yet you are charging for a 5 star hotel , the dust under the beds and the aircon unit don’t look like they have been cleaned for a decade. On day one we had to get the glass on the sliding door fixed as it had a space and looked like it was going to fall into a thousand pieces, lucky we got this patched up (not replaced) before cyclone Sarai turned up!
From the time that we arrived we only had our room serviced prior to lunch on one day (the 25th )and after this we had to chase up and ask for service every single day, 26th we got to almost 4 oclcok and had to just get new towels in the end. We have had to call up for milk and coffee every day as this was not replaced! I noticed that you only have one cleaner doing all the rooms at the bottom level, and you are charging for sur charges due to the holidays at your facilities left right and centre, not sure how you can justify these if you are not providing a standard service of being able to clean the room every day at a similar time especially because we have two kids one of which is a baby and needs to nap often!
Food
Decided to dine in at the Solis restaurant one night and got charged 300 dollars for a couple of entrees and mains with surcharges, we ended up having only a few meals here and there as it is hugely overpriced for what you get! Safe to say we didn’t eat much at the resort which is a shame!
Cyclone Sarai was on its way which meant we got stuck indoors for 3 of the 6 days which was fine however with two kids and the amount of things to do was limited and my daughter got her hair braided and we paid a whopping 85 dollars, 85 dollars I mean I pay that much for a hair cut in NZ, what’s worse is that it took 4 hours (very patient 4 year old) and I only got told price after it was done! Surely with Sarai you could have done some of these services as part of the hefty room you charge!
On top of that one of your staff proceeded to tell me that half of staff was going home on the day the cyclone was on its way which was quite a shock as the hotel was fully booked so if there was an emergency how would you have looked after these ppl?? Absolute no information or communication was given to the guests about the cyclone esp no reassurance or info to let us know what to do in case of emergency and the next day there was chaos I spoke to 3-4 couples just around reception and everyone was unhappy with the staff and how all over the place/lack of info they had of what was going on!
We were planning to come in June again but this time with my family (4 couples ) however it’s safe to say that we will not be returning and as the old saying goes I have already told 10 ppl about my experience again which is a shame!
Last but not least When I came up to pay for my bill Mili didn’t even ask me how my stay was to the point that I had to say i wasn’t that happy with my stay what can I do about it ? And she just said you can email and didn’t even provide the email! Just disappointing!
Very disappointed customer!

Response from Sunny_Goo, Manager at Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa
Responded 10 Jan 2020
Bonjour Bula miladamusic, Thank you for your feedback, We have 30% of the renovation completed, with rest of the resort to continue in 2 days time. Price is purely driven by guest demand over festive season and offered price was below the market, at competitive price. During cyclone, we had daily communication letter sent out to all the rooms to ensure guests are aware of what facilities were open & operating, along with 50 odd staff staying in-house to ensure we have sufficient number of staff to turnaround the service. It would have seemed more chaotic to norm given all guests were stranded within the resort ground for safety - other than going off on a day tour, out on beach , or even at the pool. Many guests were stuck with cancelled flights, and lobby was full with guests needing assistants of all sorts. All desks were manned and team were working around the clock to assist everyone. For families, free kids movies & activities were provided on upper level - which was also on the communication letter. Despite the challenge, resort was able to run three open outlets to ensure guests had a choice along with operating full laundry service to ensure we had continuous supply of clean towels & sheets to the resort. Regarding staff feedback, I will personally ensure to share this feedback for further coaching & development. We thank you again your patience & understanding over these challenging few days experienced. Vinaka, Sunny Goo Executive Assistant Manager

We visited early March for 7 nights and wish we could have stayed forever. This was our 2nd visit to Sofitel each time upgrading to Adults only Waitui Beach Club and worth every cent. The resort is going through renovations however we did not hear any noise whatsoever. The Waitui rooms have been renovated to a brilliant standard with everything you require for a relaxing comfortable stay. The staff at The club are so friendly and courteous as with all the other staff members and always remember your names and what your drink preference is at the daily cocktail hour. The breakfast at The Club is also delicious and cooked to order, our only disappointment was that due to bad weather we only experienced this 3 mornings and the remaining mornings we had buffet breakfast in the lagoon restaurant which unfortunately does not suit us. We dined at both Solis and The Grill on several nights and the meals were lovely, my preference being The Grill for Service and quality of food. Icannot wait to return to Sofitel Waitui when this Coronavirus is over.

Bula!! My mum and I just returned home from staying at the Sofitel in one of the Waitui Beach Club rooms with full access to the beach club. Safe to say, the entire trip was incredible!
The rooms are beautiful and well serviced every day, and the entire beach club area is stunning (so is the whole resort, but we spent most of our time at the beach club). We loved sitting by the pool while we ate our breakfast every morning and then being able to jump straight in the pool!
All of the food and drink was absolutely delicious, especially at Waitui Bar and Grill, and we particularly loved the 3pm juices (which were different everyday) and 5pm happy hour where we got amazing cocktails and canapés every single day!!!
But what made this trip so amazing was the staff. Everyone is so incredibly friendly and they provide the most amazing service. They really look after you whether it’s by the pool serving food and drink, cleaning your room or giving free golf cart rides so we didn’t have to walk!! A special shoutout goes to the staff at Waitui Beach Club who we spent most of our time with including Mary, Paulini, Jerry, Zac, Salote M, Tracy, Sam, Gabby, Aca, Millie, Annie, Eveni, Solo and Sherry (just to name a few!!)
We will absolutely be returning, hopefully sooner rather than later! Vinaka vakalevu Sofitel Fiji for an absolutely unforgettable holiday ☺️☺️☺️

We stayed at the Waitui Beach Club which had just been newly renovated. We were only there for a couple of nights over new years before we had to catch up with some friends down on the Coral Coast. The rooms were magnificent with huge tvs and everything was new and clean. The staff were amazingly friendly, they remembered who you were, joked around and made it just such a happy environment. The pool in the beach club was magnesium which meant you felt so clean and healthy when you got out.
We were so happy with our stay that when we caught up with our friends we convinced them to ditch our reservation at the other hotel and go back to the Waitui Beach Club for our last two nights. I think the hotel was quite surprised when we showed back up with a bunch of extra people in tow. We got a lot of brownie points with our friends once they realised how wonderful the food and service was!
Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

The recent refurbishment has been well worth the wait. The new entrance foyer is impressive with features that provide the luxury impact you would expect from Sofitel.
A new coffee shop sits adjacent to the reception providing excellent coffees, iced drinks, pastries, sandwiches and more. The concept of "build your own" salad or sandwich is a great idea and takes customer choice to the next level.
The refurbished bedrooms are simple but very effective with a walk-in shower and an open plan studio feel to the living space. Of course, there is the balcony with ocean views.
The pool area, beach bar and restaurant are also to the highest standard, as you would expect.
Finally, the opening of the resort has helped local staff to secure an all important income again, which is critical to them and to the tourism sector in Fiji. Sofitel should be applauded for this as it is a lifeline in difficult COVID times and allows local tourists to support the local tourism economy.
The people who work at Sofitel are a credit to the brand and always give excellent customer service.
Thank you and we will be back again!

+1
Husband and I stayed here for 6 nights after spending 2 weeks already in Fiji for our 20th wedding anniversary.
The pros , we were upgraded to a suite which was a lovely touch
the food is fabulous, I loved the fact that the chefs walked around and spoke to the patrons, nothing was a bother for them. A special thanks to Kesa and Javeed The sushi was really fresh and tasted great. We had a big family dinner here in our first week and Javeed and another chef(didn’t get name) walked around with two family members as a child and adult had food allergies to explain what was safe, Javeed even offered to make anything the child wanted. A thank you to Ben who always bought me over extra ice before I asked. Mary and Ringi were very attentive.
The journal lounge was a nice get away from the heat A special thanks to Sweyta, Iromi, and Alena. You made us feel comfortable and it was a pleasure to see your smiling faces.
Also Simione was very friendly and lovely, around the main pool.
We had dinner one night in the waitui restaurant and the food was incredible. I have never tasted steak so tender in all my life. Thanks Chef! The housekeepers were very busy and never stopped from morning till late afternoon and the room was always clean.
Cons. The air conditioners are on a sensor which meant at night the air con stopped. It made the room uncomfortable to sleep in and we had to keep getting up to move so the air con would turn back on. I did speak to reception numerous times but I guess they couldn’t keep it turned on at night.
We paid for the Waitui beach club access and the first 2 days could barely use it as it was busy and what chairs were free had no shade.
When we checked in we weren’t given any information on what was included in our package, and I felt like a pest having to go to reception all the time to ask questions.
The balcony was very cluttered. It was impossible to lay on the lounges without having to move the table. The table and chairs were facing a wall so there was no view. Perhaps remove the lounges as they are too big and move the table and chairs to that position.
The pros , we were upgraded to a suite which was a lovely touch
the food is fabulous, I loved the fact that the chefs walked around and spoke to the patrons, nothing was a bother for them. We stayed here over Christmas and New Years and the staff were great.
Our flight got cancelled on the 28th Dec because of Cyclone Sarai but the General Manager Vincent and his Assistant Sunny were so helpful. They helped us recheck into the same room and made our stay as stress free as possible.
When we found out our flight was cancelled we gave some clothes to laundry and were amazing, our clothes came back the same day and neatly folded.
During the cyclone the hotel set up activities for the guests, like movie rooms and games for the kids.
The boys, Saki, Mes, Kala, Solo, Suli and Julian were great at keeping everyone entertained.
The Housekeeping department were also very accommodating especially Sanjana, she kept our room spotless.
Definitely will be coming back here again!
