If you want a place with outstanding views within an easy walk of the port this place is for you. The price for a room is cheap for such an outstanding location. The sea washes under your balcony as you watch the ferry go back and forth to Palau. It is an easy walk to the port only 5 minutes. I highly recommend il Gabbiano
Writing this as we are still here and I did not want to forget the detail! I honestly love this place and will hate to leave. We are staying for 5 nights in room 234 bed and breakfast and is quite simply the best budget hotel you could dream of for just 39€ per night for 2 people! (Buonasera Giovanni! 😉) The islands and beaches are out of this world and we will be back my friends, go out of season, no crowds and we had amazing weather! The fish like banana and the snorkelling and visibility is fantastic from the beaches. Plus points: Giovanni and the team! The location and sea view/sun rise from everywhere/your balcony. You don’t pay any more for a view or a balcony, just message the hotel. The huge comfy bed and pillows. Big room large modern en-suite shower room. (Those that reviewed “needs updating” need to look closely, the furniture is new and tidy, just a very poor decor choice of speckled nicotine yellow!) Great shower. Lots of clean towels, and huge bath sheets. Hairdryer. The rooms and communal areas are kept incredibly clean and tidy. Breakfast is very good traditional buffet efficiently run and restocked. Plenty of free car/scooter parking. Easy short walk into town. Lift or stairs. Nice little hotel bar, outdoor seating. Giovanni will give you a map and eating and beach recommendations on your first evening. A good fridge in your room. Minus points: A slightly worn shower screen rail, paper thin walls (we could hear next door pee!😄) and only one socket in room. None of this bothered us in the slightest! No tea/coffee in room (we brought our own) …
I stayed here for one night in September 2017. Hotel is a bit outside of the city centre of La Maddalena, but still in walking distance. It is located immediately on the seashore, which is great if you have a room facing the sea. It feels like being on a ship. Room was simple, but clean and english skills of staff was limited. Breakfast was included, but nothing to write home about. With some small improvements (modernization of lobby and rooms, more welcoming staff) this place has great potential to be an excellent place. But in that case, the prices will rise. So I found it all right, the way it was, as it was not to expensive to stay here. I am not sure, if I should rate 3 or 4 – it is somewhere in between. So it’s a 3,5.
I booke this place very last minute on booking.com and thought that I'd snagged it for an extremely good deal - 32 Euro for the night. Well, when I arrived, I learned that it wasn't exaclty in the center. Not that La Maddalena is particularly big, but I did need to take the bus a ways in order to find it. Once I did, I still had to walk a few blocks down a winding road; all in all, for someone who has never been to the archipelago it is a bit convoluted trying to find it. I was excited when I saw that it was right on the water. But the hotel itself looked very old and run down - even from the outside. I went in and Oh my Lord, what is that smell?! Oh it was horrific! It smelled like some kind of nasty, nasty disinfectant. I was worried before even checking-in that the smell might make me sick sleeping there overnight. The woman who checked me in was so-so, not rude, but also not overly friendly. She said that there was no restaurant, and I hadn't slept or eaten in two days because of all the traveling I'd done to get there. I couldn't decide if i was more hungry...or more tired. She was nice enough to bring me some stale bread and jam, and a fake brioche. I happily accepted both since I hadn't seen food in a long time. She gave me my key and told me where I could find my room. I was less than pleased. Okay, to be fair, I was smitten with the view - because it was absolutely breathtaking. It was RIGHT ON the water. I mean, if I had jumped out my water, I probably would have been able to land somewhere near the shore. It was that close to me. I have the pictures and video to prove it. Ha. The view was stunning, but the room was not. There was only one outlet for me to use, the bed was as stiff as a board, the bathroom wasn't as up-to-date as I would have preferred, and the walls were paper thin. So much so, that I could hear my neighbor playing YouTube on his PHONE that night, and had to go across the hall to ask him politely to turn it down since I was trying to sleep. Unreal. The smell in that place was just awful. I still don't know what it was but I could have done without it. Luckily, I learned my way to and from the city center, and with a bus I managed to make it down to THE most amazing beach I've ever seen in my life. That night, the evening receptionist was very friendly. All in all though, unless you are a sadist and like sleeping on concrete, I wouldn't recommend this place. Really the only good thing about it is the view. And that, in the end, is all that you're paying for.…
Excellent rooms, clean and in a beautiful location close to downtown. All rooms have a beautiful view since the hotel is located in a prime location next to the water. Breakfast is good and plentiful. Family owned and operated. Highly recommended.
