We stayed at the Selva Negra resort for 2 nights and had a very relaxing time. The trails around the forest are beautiful and well maintained. The hiking was definitely a highlight. The room was also nice and cozy, with hot showers and a great view of the lake. My only complaint would be the food. It is good and...

Hello Jessicawyy I am pleased that you chose to visit us for a couple of nights and that you spent some of your time to provide us with your feedback. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your room, the views of the lake, the hot showers (powered by solar hot water heaters) and the trails around the property....

We stayed at one of the chalets. It was wonderful. Quiet and peaceful. Plenty of room for our family of 6. I took the oldest two kids on the cacao tour the morning of our last day. Our course kindly stopped by the barns so they got watch feeding time for the calves and pigs. The pigs are loud when...

Wonderful preserve. A great place to go during the hot, dry season. Excellent hiking trails with many opportunities to see the wildlife such as howler monkeys, numerous species of birds, and the elusive agouti. The food for dinner is quite good and much of it is raised locally. The lengua was melt-in-your mouth tender.

Thanks for spending some of your vacation at Selva Negra and for taking the time afterwards to provide us with your thoughts. Often a comment when guests arrive is regarding our refreshing climate. It is indeed significantly cooler here than much of the rest of Nicaragua, especially during the dry season. I am glad to hear that you took advantage...

We spent five nights here and just loved it. Food is great. It comes from their farm. Fresh vegetables, homemade bakery and cheese. Wow. Hot showers, too. Lovely staff all around. We enjoyed tours: night tour, farm tour, cacao tour and coffee tour. Unforgettable experiences. This place has been a highlight for us in our three months spent traveling in...

I slept in Matagalpa because of the prices of the noght and food (I couldn't afford), but I easily took a bus (Jinotega) to go there and the activities you can find here. There is a lot to learn !!! And people are nice and friendly.

We went to Selva Negra for the day from Matagalpa, about 20 mins on the local bus. After paying 50 cordoba entrance we picked up a map from the reception and had a full day hiking in the forest. The trails are well signposted and there's info on the map as to timings/difficulty ratings so you can choose which was...

We planned to stay only one night, but we enjoyed it so much that we stayed 3 nights instead. We had a room by the lake and it was very relaxing to sit on the front porch in the rocking chair and soak up the clean fresh air and beautiful surroundings. The night view of the stars was one of...

Spent a day at Selva Negra in April. We experienced the best food that I tasted in all of Nicaragua. Tender beef, bone in tilapia, traditional pico de gallo and gallo pinto. We sat on the patio overlooking the lake, absolutely beautiful. This was followed by a tour of their coffee production facility along with the self sufficient farm. It...

When we stayed it was actually almost cold at night so bring something warm. There is nowhere else to eat but luckily the standard at the restaurant is very good. best coffee we had in whole of Nica. Unlike some other reviewers i didn't really care that the waiters spoke limited english, where the hell were we anyway. Try to...

Selva Negra is the perfect place to take a break from the constant heat of Nica. Its shady cloud forrest has tons of wild life and the food is all local and organic, grown right on the farm. If you have time, the farm tour is worth it. Bring your camera for the sweeping views of the estate and Matagalpa....
