First off, there are a number of things that are lovely about this place. The grounds are enjoyable to walk around -- they’re a little less tame than in Costa Rica. The cabins have plants growing on the roofs and you can hear creatures scampering overhead at night (I liked it but some people might not). The cabins are quaint,...

We didn't stay at the resort but the reserve doesn't have it's own page. Doing this as a day trip from Matagalpa is easy: Get the Jinotega bus from Cotran Sur station (they run every half hour) and ask to be let off at Selva Negra. It's about 25 minutes and 13c. Then walk just over 1km through the coffee...

This is not just a resort. It is a major organic coffee farm, a working farm that provides food for the restaurant, food and housing provided for over 200 coffee farm employees, school for the children, interdenominational church for weddings, reception facilities, etc. Selva Negra is actively involved in improving the lives of their employees and the community. A must!

The location of Selva Negra is extremely unique and lovely. That being said... The bungalows can be quite noisy with noises from neighbors traveling in. Some of the tours are not worth it. My husband and I only really enjoyed the coffee tour. We hiked all the trails during our 3 day stay. The short ones are cleared, but the...

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is very peaceful, the rooms are not fully equipped, noise from other rooms can be heard. The view from the restaurant is notable, the food is average, the service takes a bit. At the reception, they are unfriendly, they speak english almost all the staff. The hotel is for someone...

I lived in Nicaragua for several years and visited this place often. The food is fabulous, the service is OK. The rooms are plentiful and diverse, something for everyone. Stay in your own private chalet, it's fantastic. We did the horseback tour several times, and go hiking if you can. The weather is cool, 70-80 in the day, 50-60 at...

We had a private bungalow which was a sleeping area, bathroom and separate lounge. The beds were comfy and it was lovely waking up surrounded by lush greenery. We did the coffee tour and the farm tour with Manuel who was entertaining and knowledgeable. We highly recommend the tours to get the most out of your stay. The food served...

Our family had a fabulous visit at Selva Negra. There is great hiking, beautiful scenery. Very family friendly with playgrounds for kids. The coffee tour was very interesting. Th organic, sustainable farm was amazing. The farm has an onsite school, clinic, and the workers are treated well. I don't even like coffee and I loved this place!

While I am traveling solo by bicycle hough Latin America, friends came to visit me. We met at Selva Negra and stayed here together for a couple of day. The place is great. It has beautiful property with great trail, we even saw howler monkeys and many other animals while hiking there. The staff is good and very atentative.
