We stayed for 2 nights here in the dorm and got a good sleep both nights. The fans keep you cool and mosquito nets are not perfect but do the job. Gary is very helpful and his wife is very nice too. They take the time to offer information on activities in the area. The hot waterfall is a must... More

We popped in by kayak the day before we wanted to move here, and Gary the owner arranged with us to pick us up early the next morning so that we would have plenty of time the next day to explore the local hot waterfall (well worth a visit) and do some other stuff. He was a mine of information... More

Me and my gf booked this hotel after a quick email a day or two before, the reply back included easy directions to where we could get collected. 2quetsal and 10mins later Gary arrived on his chariot collecting us and another couple. Later that night he gave us loads of info on the area including the trip he recommends to... More

Loved taking the boat to get there and the privateness of the location. Room was basic but clean. The whole complex is on stilts as it is right above the water or would be when the water is high. Internet is almost non existent there, but sometimes good enough for email messages in and out, not to be counted on.... More

We arrived at the hotel tired after our long trip. Our room wasn't cleaned yet. The hotel location was beautiful on the river front but you'll have to rent a boat if you want to have dinner somewhere else. We had dinner the first night; it was mediocre and pricey. Next morning, I was sick and had to go to... More

This is a fantastic place to stay in Rio Dulce. We were intending to stay here for a night or two and ended up staying for 3 nights, it was such a relaxing spot on the river. The owner, Gary, and his wife were great hosts and the food was fantastic (would recommend the ribs and the Aussie burger) Being... More

The location is really good and the staff is nice. The owner of the hotel is an Australian guy, who helped all the guests to plan their further trip over dinner. We had a private room with shared bathroom, which was really good. Unfortunately al the light and electricity went out for 12h (over night) and it was impossible to... More

Hotel Kangaroo is a great, reasonably priced hostel on a beautiful and secluded inlet on the lake about a 5-10 minute boost ride from the dock at Rio Dulce. It's a little inconvenient since you have to take the hotel boost to town to go anywhere, but it it is a wonderful, relaxing spot and much better than staying in... More

This was one of the most unique hostels I've ever stayed in. The dorms are a good value but the mosquito nets needs to be replaced (lots of holes!). We stayed here for 2 nights, did the trip to Finca Paraiso (hot springs and waterfall), and the boat ride up to Rio Dulce; the owner of the hostel helped us... More

I stayed here for about a week in October 2014. The owners Graciela and Gary are a lovely couple, extremely helpful, informative and care deeply about what they have built. The dorms are great value and comfortable, although the mosquito needs do need replacing. The showers are hot and clean. The food was good quality, but overly priced for this... More

“The bungalows were very nice if going as a couple I would definitely get one of those. I stayed in a single room, there are no windows just screens, they are still private but you will hear all the jungle noises and people.”
