Stayed two nights in a family tent. An amazing experience! The location is bordering the Yala park and consists of 6 tents which are well kept and cozy. The staff is top notch and the food is simply delicious - mostly traditional Sri Lankan food. The safari trips were in their own jeeps which are Land Cruisers and kept clean and disinfected. They arranged a Hill Walk which was a little trek up a hill but true wilderness experience. The staff accompanying us were very helpful and took all the necessary steps to make the trek safe and enjoyable. The staff consists of wildlife enthusiasts and they shared some of their experiences with us and showed us a few risks on spotting animals and identifying paw prints. Thanking the entire staff for a one of a kind experience in the wilderness!!

After 2 awful experiences in Yala NP in the past, I had sworn never to go back. Fortunately I was convinced by a friend to visit Yala with Kulu Safaris - the trip turned my perception of Yala up side down; I realized that it is actually possible to have a real nature (amazing sightings) and cultural (fantastic temple in the park) experience without hundreds of jeeps trying to capture Leopards and tourists shouting at guides and animals... Our fantastic family Yala trip was made possible by a highly professional team at Kulu Safaris. From the moment we arrived at the camp we were fantastically taken care of and could enjoy the well maintained tents, fantastic food, great views from the tree platform, kayaking, swimming in the national park, etc... Thanks again to Manju and his team for an unforgettable wildlife and cultural experience in Sri Lanka. Cheers

Set in a gorgeous location, surrounded by nature, it truly is tranquil and perfect for escaping everything. What I loved most was that while all the luxuries one would expect were very much in place, you never felt like you were removed from a true jungle experience.

Given you are a stones throw from the national park, the animals don’t know that, so expect visits from Elephants, Buffalo, peacocks, deer and there are at least 3 leopards roaming the area. The night drives also revealed the nocturnal visitors and i was lucky enough time see the rusty spotted cat and fishing cat in one drive.

Special mention should be made of Manju, Prem and Rohan who are a class apart and go to extraordinarily lengths to ensure your wildlife experience is nothing short of spectacular.

The food, both the local and international dishes were nothing short of delicious and the staff go out of their way to prepare the meal according to dietary preferences.

In short, Kulu Safari rivals anything in Africa for luxury in the wild, would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants the taste of the wild with all the trimmings

My holiday at Kulu Safari was a great experience. It is an ideal site to relax for people like us who have a very busy and a tight schedule at work. The surroundings were serene and peaceful. The tent (Room) was very clean, comfortable and spacious. All the members of the staff were professional, extremely kind and very helpful. The food was excellent. The Safari tours through the Yala National Park was very interesting. The vehicles were new and in extremely good condition making our Safari trips very comfortable. The driver was very attentive and very accommodative. I would strongly recommend "Kulu safari" to any one who is looking for a memorable holiday in the wilderness.

Experience Yala National Park via Kulu Safaris! Kulu Safaris tastefully hides luxury in a camping lodge. Tents are packed with all necessary amenities including WiFi, A/C, fans and an attached bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy. Tents are positioned to give the guests the feeling that it's a solo camping in nature, facing a beautiful lake with a constant breeze blowing all day long. The treehouse on the big Palu tree had such beautiful views that I felt a poem was about to burst out of me! Meals at the campsite were amazing! Authentic Sri lankan, taste bud tantalising, healthy dishes & drinks. Every trip to the yala national park was full of excitement as the Kulu Safaris jeep driver/guide was not only very knowledgeable about the frequent locations of the major animals like the leopards, elephants, coyotes, water buffaloes etc but he was in a network with other guides to quickly take us to a location when animals were spotted-Thank you Rohana! I was most impressed by Kulu Safaris' attention to detail when I found out that there was a box packed with cold water bottles, fruit juice and snacks! (just when we were hungry like Hippos!!) Excellent service by the team - so very thorough! Cheers!! Javana and his Kulu Safaris team gives all the luxury loving glampers out there a beautiful safari experience without ugly concrete monstrosities (Thank you). I personally think just a holiday at Kulu Safaris is what we all need in our busy lives. A place to be one with nature, enjoy healthy food and simply relax, dream away & allow our creative side to blossom.

This time we visited the Kulu Safari Camp with a group of friends and we were all amazed at how well organized this absolutely luxurious camp is. The tents are beautifully furnished and thanks to ample ventilation very comfortable, the bathrooms well equipped.
We loved the natural setting by the lake and the view from the tree-house is stunning.
The food was delicious and one evening served on a floating platform on the lake, beautifully lit by torches and above us only the moon and stars.
Ramani was our guide and she did a wonderful job, showing us so many magnificent spots in Yala Park and explaining how birds and animals breed and live in this sanctuary.
We hope to be back next year!

My son and I spent a few days at Kulu and we both had a grat time. The staff were all warm and extremely accomodating with anything that we wanted. The food was great and we were certainly spoilt for choice!

The tents were very comfortable and the campsite was well spread out which meant that we had tons of privacy. The jeeps were extremely comfortable and the snacks and cold drinks that were packed went down very well in the heat of the day.

We were very sad to leave but we will soon be back again for sure!

Firstly a huge thanks to the entire team, both in Colombo and at the Kulu Campsite, for making our trip so amazing. Located in a magical setting in the buffer zone bordering the Kotchipatana tank, you feel very much in the jungle. The extremely tasteful and luxurious ac tents and common areas, coupled with mouth watering cuisine and first class service, makes Kulu Safaris the outimate experience, even for those not so interested in visiting the park. For us wildlife enthusiasts the Kulu vehicles, chauffers/guides made the experience ultra special. So if you want to visit Yala in style, don't look any further, Kulu is THE place to stay!!!
Thank you once again to the entire Kulu team for treating us like royalty :)

Best wishes,
Dinushka

Kulu Safaris has it all. Glamping at its finest, with comfy beds, cozy and clean tents with air conditioning, en suite bathroom, and a porch. You might encounter a frog in the bathroom and geckos on the walls, which is fun. The food is excellent, including vegan, with dinner served in various locations including at a table in front of your tent and on a platform over the water. There’s even a treehouse. Lots of monkeys and peacocks and I watched a land monitor feeding in a termite mound. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the giant squirrel who comes by the kitchen for bananas. The setting is great, with the lake in front of you and you’re surrounded by nature. Breakfast and lunch are served in a large covered area and the lounge is an open-air tent with good wifi. After seeing older photos (pre Covid) of shared tables, I was concerned, but we were seated at separate tables and everything was well spaced with good protocols. We were told that if guests preferred to sit with other guests, that would be accommodated.

The jeeps are comfortable. Our guide was Ramani and she is excellent: knowledgeable about all things we encountered and Yala in general and also has a much broader knowledge that goes beyond the park. She was very generous in sharing her knowledge and is overall a really nice person. She also watched over us while we were in the camp, from early morning until after dinner. The areas they took us were varied and really interesting. The focus is of course on animals but the landscape was a lovely surprise. We only had a glimpse of a leopard but we had wonderful sightings of elephants, lots of land monitors, sambar deer, mongoose, jackal, wild boar, baby and adult water buffalo, lots of beautiful spotted deer, other mammals, and so many different birds. We saw a huge gathering of malabar pied hornbills bathing themselves in the dirt and relaxing in the trees; so special. I much preferred this section of Yala over the southern part, which we visited after Kulu Safaris. The terrain is more varied and interesting, the wildlife viewing excellent, and it never felt crowded with other jeeps. Stay several days if you can.

Kulu Safaris is located just outside the Katagamuwa entrance to the Yala National park. It is the less crowded entrance to the park and the campsite is situated on a few acres of fantastically curated jungle. The Kulu team deserve all the awards they receive and the finish and amenities of the tent are brilliant. They are super comfortable and make you forget that you are actually in the wilderness. The food is excellent, mainly authentic local fare, and plentiful. The tree house on the bank of the lake is a must climb and the kayaking trip around the lake is a soothing as it is invigorating. There is plenty of bird life on camp, and the safaris are extremely well organised in safe and comfortable jeeps. The highlight of course, is the service. The Kulu training is evident in each and everyone of the staff members who are highly trained, professional and eager to make your experience that much better. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Thank you for having interest in Kulu Safaris! Since our campsite is located on the Katagamuwa side of the Yala National Park: The best option from Kandy and Colombo would be to take a direct bus to Kataragama - our team can pick you from the Kataragama town. Colombo to Kataragama you could take a train to Matara and from Matara take a bus to Kataragama. should you hire a vehicle it would cost you approx 200 USD Colombo - kataragama ( 200 USD) Kandy - Kataragama ( 200 USD) Please write to us for more information. Many thanks, Natasha
