I stayed at Big Trees in late September just weeks after they'd reopened from the wildfire danger. This is a peaceful, lovely place to stay and I'd definitely stay here again, especially after considering how crowded it gets in the Valley.

To add to the post above, it is another 30 to 35 minutes from the valley up to the Big Trees Lodge at Wawona. So you will need to plan for about 2.5 hours from where you enter the park on the east side on Highway 120 to get... More

So you will need to plan for about 2.5 hours from where you enter the park on the east side on Highway 120 to get to Big Trees. This is to account for traffic in the valley and for expected scenery stops.
