This smaller hotel met all my needs : location was close to a variety of eating places and a short walk to Convention center . Room and bed was comfortable .
The check-in and out were seamless with Rene assisting me with my boarding passes on way out plus allowing my bags to be left securely at hotel during my final day + they even had a change room and shower to use prior to leaving for the airport and the all-nite flight back to North America . John

This is one of those places that you appreciate because it's an independently owned place, a one-off. You're not going to find a hotel exactly like this in some other city, or in each major metro area. They have made a location with its own unique personality. Not some bland corporate cookie cutter hotel.

The theme of the place is horses ("equus"), and furnishings, artwork and decor reflect this. My room was nicely appointed and clean. The staff was friendly and professional. It's got a great location, depending on what you need/want. There's a huge park with a beach nearby, and there's a harbor even closer.

The coffee bar and pool are nearly next to each other and gave an interesting vibe.

This is not an enormous facility. That gives it some of its charm. However, expectations for customers need to be in line. This building was formerly some kind of military location, and the building is narrow and has a tiny parking lot. And while there is an elevator, it doesn't start at sidewalk level; there are about 15 wide stairs to climb to get to the lobby for check-in. The elevator is at that level. Without a bellhop, I believe some folks will be very disappointed. So, if you're not driving a car, you're fine; but otherwise you may need to find nearby parking a couple blocks' (5-8 mins.) walk.

The major road this hotel is on has traffic until late, so street noise could be an issue for some. Once I was asleep, it didn't awaken me.

For the price, I think this was a good choice for me. Be prepared to pay an extra $30 or so for a "resort fee" which wasn't in my initial payment/price. I would come back.

Best value for dollar in Honolulu. Straightforward, clean and friendly. Similar priced hotels are absolutely terrible but after staying here several times this property keeps good quality every time. Great bar on property and great location for the beach, marina and ala moana mall. I’ll come back for sure.

If you’re looking for quiet relaxation, this is not the place for you. This hotel is on Ala Moana Blvd. All night long and early morning, traffic is noisy, car alarms are going off, horns are honking, motorcycles are revving their motors, and sirens are blaring. I was awoken often, thinking the vehicle was actually in my room. The street noise is deafening. The only thing that helped cover up the noise from the traffic is the loud commotion and music from the bar. The air conditioning was powerful, so it was either freezing cold, or turned off and hot in our room. The “Resort Fee” is actually $25/day, not $20/day as advertised on their website. The staff is pleasant and the location is a quick walk to Ala Moana Mall. Stay here for the location and helpful staff, not for peace and quiet.

Advantages of this hotel:
Friendly staff, close to Ala Moana Centre and Hilton Lagoon.
Fairly good value.

Disadvantages of this hotel:
We were on the 9th floor and there was quite a lot of road noise, to be expected given the location of the hotel I suppose.
There were 4 of us staying (and this was disclosed to the hotel) yet housekeeping only supplied 3 bath towels and 2 standard coffee capsules per day, I had to ask reception to get top ups.
The hotel is sort of squeezed between 2 adjoining properties so lacks the ambiance of some of the other hotels in the area that enjoy more gardens and outdoor areas.

We have never stayed at a more welcoming place while on vacation. To call this place a hotel is a disservice. This place feels like home and we were welcomed like family. Sandy, behind the bar, was the sister I never had. Always up for conversation and humored us to no avail. We traveled with 7 guest which included 2 children, yet she treated all of us with kindness and attention. Lincoln behind the reception desk was our brother from another mother. He was so knowledgeable when it came to the best local spots and ways to avoid the touristy spots. The beds were beyond comfortable and we’re a family who travels. These beds were the best! There are no phones in the room so you get the feel you’re at home not in a stuffy hotel with unnecessary front desk calls. The location is conveniently located next to shops and Red Lobster, delish! We can’t wait to come back! Mahalo!!

This is one of the last privately owned hotels in Honolulu, and provides a very personalized experience. All of the staff remember your name, go above and beyond to make your stay memorable, and help you in any way that they can. I really enjoyed the room, too, with a comfortable bathroom and lovely balcony to enjoy as you wind down the day. The bar and restaurant area is my favorite part of the stay - it was super easy to make friends, enjoy delicious cocktails, and feel right at home. Chad the bartender is great at his job.

The location isn't right on the beach or right in the nightlife area... instead, it's at a create compromise location... at the intersection of everything you would want to do in the city. Short walk to the Ala Moana shopping mall, short walk to the beach and Waikiki nightlife, and a much faster drive to the airport than the alternatives.

As a solo traveler I am always looking for places that give me a sense of community, similar to that which I found in youth hostels growing up. This is the perfect choice for this, almost made me extend my stay on the island.

This boutique hotel is great! The building has been maintained in its late 50’s, early 60’s style. There’s definitely an equine theme throughout, and it tastefully interacts with the existing interior designs. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean, and all of the staff are exceptionally (and genuinely) friendly. The location is perfect to take advantage of being downtown without being right in the middle of the noise and hubbub of the mega hotels. It’s a ten minute walk from the front door to Ala Moana center, and five minutes the other direction to Mc Donald’s. The bar offers well poured drinks as well as great sandwiches. Both bar tenders are extremely friendly, accommodating, and take great pride in their craft. When we arrived, we were checked in by Lincoln who exemplifies the aloha spirit, and awesome personalized customer service. The general vibe of this hotel is amazing. I would highly recommend The Equus Hotel to anyone who wants to get away from the sterile corporate Honolulu hotels that surround it, and have a memorable experience.

You know there's something great about the hotel if the front receptionist welcomes you with the biggest, boldest red lipstick smile. It's ”Aloha” and everything else is history. The design of the hotel was very unique. The feeling of waiting in the lobby almost bring back the feeling of being in mommy’s arm. The room was simple yet very representative of the local culture, especially with the bed frame and through the color palette. I may have only stayed one night but it was a one night worth it investment in the hotel.

The hotel is ideally located near the beach and the big Ala Moana shopping center. There is a convenience store within minutes and several restaurants. Our incoming flight was early in the morning, so we were at the front desk a lot earlier than check-in time, but they were very flexible and let us have our room as soon as it was ready. Front desk staff are very helpful with tips on the area. The room was comfortable, with balcony, minifridge and a little seating area where we could enjoy our coffee and light snacks. Cute bar / open-air lobby. There's a pool but didn't have the time to use it.

IF I remember correctly, the parking was included with our reservation but it came out to be about $20 a day. Also, ample parking is not what I would call it. There are about 10 spots at the building so if you are early enough you can get one of those. If you aren't (we rarely were) you would park in the building behind (which are privately owned condos). This is the rub. That building does have plenty of parking, but it's ONLY in the corner "stalls" which have walls. So you have to be VERY careful not to damage the car. Worse part. The parking garage is gated so you MUST see the front desk to gain access or to exit the building. Which is a pain.

I believe so because when we checked out they asked if we needed them to hold our luggage. We didn't, but I'd assume that, since they offered, they would also do it for arriving guests.
