I booked this hotel at the last minute when our previous accommodation fell through, and it exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, there were towels and chairs we could take down to the beach which were included in the amenity fee, and the hotel is in a great, walkable location down to the beach, restaurants, etc. The front desk staff was exceptionally kind, especially Linda, who gave us plenty of recommendations for activities to do in O'ahu. She was truly so lovely, and made our stay!

We were looking for a modestly priced hotel in the Waikiki area and ended up finding a little jewel of a place in the Coconut Waikiki Hotel. It is tucked away on Ala Wai Blvd, a six minute walk away from Waikiki beaches and the commercial shopping for which the area is famous. Our studio suite had a beautiful view over the Ala Wai Canal and background mountains. On several mornings, we were treated to rainbows as we looked west. What a great view from our lanai as we enjoyed the complimentary daily breakfasts and unlimited cups of coffee from the lobby bar.
The room had every convenience a traveller could hope for: a small fridge, kitchen sink, cutlery, dishes, ironing board, iron, safe, cosy towels, plenty of hangers in the closet, kitchen table and chairs, a chest of drawers, modern tv, well made bed and linens with a good choice of pillows, complimentary toiletries, plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. There is a free filtered water dispenser in the lobby which was very convenient and appreciated.
There is a really cute pool and pool side sitting area with a barbecue tucked away for client use. The seating throughout the lobby is stylish and comfortable.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. All parking is valeted as space is limited at their location. Although, if you're lucky, you can nab a free parking space on the boulevard. But pay attention to the signage as your car would have to be moved for street cleaning on certain days.
We booked by phoning directly to the hotel and thereby did not have to pay a resort fee and we were upgraded to the mountain view room. Something for future potential guests to consider doing.
Consider staying at the Coconut Waikiki. Save lots of money and still have a really comfortable stay.

We stayed for 10 nights with my family. We had 2 rooms, a double double City View and a King Mountain View. I have no complaints. On the first day, our A/C was not blowing cool air enough to cool the room but it was addressed and fixed by the next morning. Having the large fridge and a microwave was a plus for grocery shopping and leftovers. The staff were nice and friendly. I think the best service was the Valet. It was a true Valet service with no waiting. It was definitely worth $40 a day not needing to worry where to park and also our car being ready when we took it out to explore the islands. It is also close to Kuhio street which has a lot of good eats. The pool is small but I knew that when I booked. Also we had beach towels to use and their was no amenity fee. I slept very well in Hawaii. Beds were comfy and lots of pillow.

Aloha Joy S! Thank you so much for staying with us and sharing such a delightful review. I am thrilled to hear you and your family have a wonderful, memory packed vacation! It's not often we get 10 full days with family, and it sounds like you made to most of your time in Hawaii! i apologize for the trouble you faced with your AC. Please be assured, that in the next few months, all rooms will have updated split AC units that provide much better temperature control. Our location is central, walking distance to all Waikiki has to offer, and is also easy access to and from when traveling by car to explore the island. I appreciate you recognizing the staff, and especially the valet. You are right, we are one of the fastest in the city! Joy, when Hawaii calls you and your family again, I hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back to your new island home!

My partner and I sporadically planned a trip to Oahu for mid-May as our first getaway since the beginning of Covid. Like many, we were overwhelmed with the idea of where to stay in Waikiki. There are a lot of options to filter through which can definitely be daunting. The main thing we were looking for in a hotel was somewhere quiet and at a good price. This brought us to looking at the Coconut and after returning from our 9 day stay, I can say we made an excellent choice.

When we booked, we asked that we get a quiet room with AC. We also asked and confirmed that their beds are firm as the idea of sleeping on a squishy bed for 9 days was a scary thought.

We were given room 1010 on the top floor. This was an excellent room for us. It is pretty isolated from any noise. It's away from the elevators and there are no other rooms beside or across from it meaning there's no noisy neighbours. The room faced the building next to the Coconut on Lewers which means there was no view of any type other than the Lanais of the other building but this was OK for us as a trade off as we slept like babies 8-9 hours each night with no issue or noise. We didn't even notice really any street level noise at all.

We found that this room was perfect for us because we don't need a room with a view (they do have those, though), it was quiet, and it had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the location of the hotel as well. It was a few blocks from the beach which meant it was away from all of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki for the most part. The location also made it easy for getting in and out with our rental car at the beginning and end of each day. While it may of been nice to stay at a beachside hotel, the extra cost and noise definitely wouldn't have been worth it. We're not people that stay at the hotel all day, every day. If we were then a resort makes more sense, but we were always out and about and the Coconut gave us the perfect place to return to at the end of a long day out exploring Waikiki and Oahu.

We highly recommend the Coconut if you're a traveller like us. We'll definitely be back on our next visit!

Fantastic affordable hotel in a very good location.

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the Main Street where there are plenty of food spots. Easy check in and we were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite, which was a nice little bonus! The staff were great and helpful. You can hire for free beach towels and chairs which was handy as rental at Waikiki beach is about £40 for two chairs and an umbrella.

There is also a handy ABC store at the of the street.

My only suggestion is the rooms can do with an upgrade. They are a little dated and though we had a suite, we felt the suite could use a little TLC as they have so much potential.

Overall fab stay, thank you so much!

We enjoyed our stay at the Coconut Waikiki Hotel. The staff was friendly. Our room was ready so we were able to check in early (if not they will store your luggage for you so you can explore the area). The room was nice and comfortable and we had a great view of the mountains and the waterway across the street. There is a little kitchen area in the room with a microwave, couple of plates, and utensils. Liked that the hotel was close enough to walk around Waikiki, but in a quieter area.

I recently spent a week at this wonderful boutique hotel. What a charming place!

The positives:
*It's smaller than those mega hotels scattered throughout Waikiki.
* The management and staff are very helpful and friendly; and if there's an issue (such as I had with my AC one day), they are prompt about taking care of it.
* The pool and patio are beautiful and very clean.
* The hotel is very clean, and the cleaning staff is super nice and refreshes you with abundant supplies and towels as needed.
*There are group gathering spots throughout the property: A common eating/meeting table in the lobby, ample tables and chairs outside, and a sweet and cozy nook with sofas, a TV, and board games and books in the lobby.
*Coffee (regular and decaf) and tea are available 24/7, and there's a filtered water machine in the lobby.
*Each beautifully decorated room has a hot pot, microwave, minifridge, and some eating utensils.
*Beach/pool towels and beach chairs are there for you when you need them.
*The view from most balconies is breathtaking! I enjoyed watching the sunrises, viewing the mountains, and seeing the paddle crews on the canal each evening.

The "wish they were better" matters:
* It's a few blocks to the beach, so if you are a walker like me, you'll enjoy it. Less mobile folks might be challenged.
* The bathrooms are very small, but they are also very clean, and the shower has great pressure and ample hot water.
* The surrounding neighborhood can be a bit sketchy, esp at night, but it's largely along the canal. I ventured out in Waikiki several nights for dinner, and I felt completely safe.

On previous visits to Hawaii, I've stayed in Air Bnbs, with my family who live there, and in a very nice and large hotel in the middle of the Waikiki scene. The Coconut is at the top of my list of preferred places!

If you prefer a smaller and very attentive hotel that's quiet, look no further than the sweet Coconut!

This review is mostly for the penthouse, if it can be called that. Granted it was available on last minute notice (which we needed due to the Maui wild fires), so we are thankful.

First, the elevator stops at the 10th floor and then you have to go up a few sets of stairs to get to the penthouse. A big PITA with luggage, kids (3 yr old and 11 mo old) and a wagon - which we had to lug up and down multiple times a day. Next, the room was pretty dated, the floor uneven and random things broken. Oh and a missing smoke detector. The hot water was either mildly warm or scalding hot and the sink smelled like rotting waste. The beds were not terrible, but not very comfortable either. But probably the worst thing was the nonstop noises- creaks and groans and banging and whistling off the wind through the sliding door that wouldn’t shut fully (there was a jerry rigged lock).

Also, I know Waikiki is a very popular area, but we paid $600+ / night and it just was not a good value. I appreciated the 2 rooms (important with 2 kids). They also charged resort/amenity fees and the pool was small and went from 4-6ft and seemed to be heated (mildly) sporadically. And one morning we had to dodge the spray of chemicals and dirt being pressure washed off the awnings while swimming.

Oh, and some of the towels were still dirty or stained, and they only cleaned our room once during the week we were there.

The cheapest hotel I can find in the Waikiki area. The receptionist is very friendly. The room is clean. Many bus around. My biggest problem with this hotel is that it has ZERO NOISE ISOLATION. You can people talking outside of the room load and clear! You can hear motorcycles rushing through streets midnight. It is very bad when you want to have a quite holiday break.

Am writing this review considering that the hotel offers a better nightly rate than many other hotels and does not charge the ridiculous resort fee that many others do. There are a number of positives of the hotel from my perspective. Staff was helpful and friendly and check in was easy. They provide 24 hour coffee downstairs. Towels for the beach are available at the desk. They provide a small take away breakfast. There is an efficiency kitchen so you can do some simple meal prep, although very little for utensils etc. are provided. Our room was a mountain view and there is a small balcony with seating to enjoy the view.

Issues to consider are: the room we got was pretty small. Parking is valet only for $40 per day. Parking is free on the adjacent Ali Wai Boulevard but this is a dice roll whether you can find a place. Parking in Waikiki is a premium so this is something you have to deal with in most places and economic overnight parking is hard to find.

Down sides: traffic noise was a problem and interfered with my sleep. The traffic on Ali Wai never really quits and the windows, which are slatted glass, do not block out the noise. I had a hard time sleeping consistently through the night with f vehicles with loud bass systems, muffler cutouts or tuned exhaust (including loud Harleys) periodically racing by the hotel on Ali Wai, or worse, waiting at the light next to hotel. This went on all night. The concrete balcony overhang above the windows acts as a reflecting surface to direct the street sound into the room. We were on the 7th floor and I have to say we could hear two people having a loud conversation on the street at 6 AM one morning. The periodic and rather loud wall AC unit would block out some of this sound but turns on and off. The other issue in the room was cleanliness. The room was relatively clean but we found a human hair on one of our pillows and in the bathroom when we checked in. Some parts of the bathroom did not look clean (dirty baseboards). The dresser drawers were dusty and so we did not use them for storing our clothes. In the age of COVID I have expectations for a place to come off thoroughly cleaned. I have stayed at many discount hotels where this was not a problem.

The price and location of the hotel is a consideration for budget-minded travelers and I get the overall positive reviews from others, which I used to select this hotel, but I would not stay at the Coconut again and would opt for an alternative location next time.

Aloha Boston_T_Party, Mahalo for staying with us and sharing insightful feedback regarding the hotel. I am happy to hear that you found our staff friendly and engaging. The amenities we offer are designed to enhance our guests' experience and it's always wonderful to hear the positive feedback about our complimentary coffee, pool towels, grab and go breakfast and ktichenettes. Our housekeeping team's goal is to provide a clean, comfortable accommodation, where guests can relax and unwind. I apologize for the discrepancies that you found in your room. The last thing you want it to find evidence of a previous guest and I have shared your feedback with them. I also have noted your feedback on the noise from outside. It's difficult to get restful sleep if you are periodically disturbed. While we cannot immediately fix that issue, we have noted your concern for future renovation projects. I realize that the concerns mentioned above are preventing you from staying again, but if you do give us another try, we do have rooms on the back side of the building that are much quieter. The view plain is different, but it is much quieter. Mahalo again for being our guest! By the way, I love Massachusetts! One of my favorite places to visit!

Aloha Linda H! Coconut Waikiki Hotel does not provide shuttle service from the airport, but there are transportation companies that provide transportation for a fee, typically around 15-20 each way. Almost everything in Waikiki, including Dukes, is within walking distance of the hotel. There is also public transportation if you wanted to venture out a little further, and there are also excursions you can book if you wanted to sight see as well.
