This is a must, for couples looking for a romántic boutique style getaway, beautiful views of the ocean, marina and city from our balcony. The staff couldn't be better, I checked into this wonderful place ayer getting a sinus I ficción at the precious property (Hilton Hawaiian Village) they were caring and simpathetic to what we were going through and never stopped. Our room es immaculate the ac worked in contrast to the precious hotel. Al that I can say is thank you for the hospitality she for giving us such a beautiful upgrade at such a great value. If I ever return to Hawaii this is the place for us.
Location was excellent! The hotel is modern and nice, its not too fancy nor big, but the location is perfect. Walking distance to Waikiki and adjacent to Ilikai Hotel and Hilton village, which is a real village with all the shops and restaurants you can choose. Rooms are on the small side, but still comfortable, our bed was a little stiff. The staff was nice, but beware of the sales presentation, they are ridiculously pushy. I wish they had a jacuzzi. They did have charging stations for vehicles, I rented a plug in and was able to charge at the Hotel.
Very nice rooms. See Maurice the manager He is great. Best customer service you’ll find in Hawaii. He’s out by the pool to be sure his guests have what they need. Converses in a polite professional yet personal manner. Have the signature drink Coconut Mojito Delicious!
Room was a very good size, with pretty nice modern decor and we had a brilliant view overlooking the marina. The staff were also very friendly. First impressions were good but nagging issues soon started to build up. We weren’t informed that there was no house keeping being done “because of covid”. This is the first hotel I’ve ever stayed in, before, during or after covid that hasn’t provided any level of housekeeping, only by day 4 and going to ask them did they inform me I have to go down to the reception to ask for new towels or bedding, or to have the bins emptied. That doesn’t fix the problem though, I wouldn’t go a full week without vacuuming or dusting at home so I certainly don’t expect that at a hotel. Next, the grove restaurant at the hotel was just awful. We ate there twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times were were served our bland food on polystyrene or cardboard plates, not only is this not what you expect at a Hilton, the amount of waste this must cause rather than dishwashing is disgraceful. Finally, we booked 3 trips through their concierge service, which were all fantastic. However when booking we were told we could do a small 1-2 hour meeting where they tell you about the Hilton empire of hotels and ask your opinion on new decor as they’ve only just acquired this hotel, in return you’ll receive discount on your booked excursions and a complimentary 7 day stay at any Hilton in the world. So we obliged. Then 30 mins into the meeting they finally tell you that they’re trying to sell you a timeshare. Which is fine if they tell you that at the start. We had zero interest in buying a timeshare and the fact that the person who was trying to sell it to us looked furious we didn’t want to spend $50000 on a timeshare that we knew absolutely nothing about an hour before left a sour taste on the entire trip.…
Rooms were adequate size for 3. A little outdated. Only complaint I have was the bathroom. It had grills that open to the bedroom so not much privacy if more than 2 people occupy the room. Location was good, bus stops were just a few feet away. About a 5 minute walk to the lagoon. Better beach area with better sand, have to walk about 10-15 minutes.
The Modern was a beautiful 5 star hotel in Honolulu but since it has been purchased by Diamond Resorts it has dropped off so much. It is so sad to see. The lovely area as you come into the hotel is gone -replaced by high counters and people selling tours. The hotel inside need a good paint job and the rooms look worn. The staff is great but the hotel is not as nice as it use to be. So sad.
I always enjoy staying at the Modern. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and I love the views of the marina and the ocean. Their outdoor restaurant has delicious food, and there are other good places to eat near by. For sundries, there's an ABC store across the road, and the buses stop at that same intersection so traveling to Waikiki or downtown Honolulu without a car is easy. Best of all, the Modern Honolulu is a short walk from Fort Derussy Beach which is a great place to swim safely.
I stayed at The Modern many times pre-covid, and always had such a great time. My expectations had changed given the pandemic, and knowing how it's affected the hospitality industry in Hawaii. The hotel still had the same feel as before - but felt it's lost it's heart. The rooms and decor are the same - albeit a little tired with age, to be expected - but our room was clean and great when we checked in. A lot of reports online about no daily room servicing being "due to covid" - I mentioned this when I checked in and was told it was not due to covid, but the new owners (Hilton). We didnt mind having to make our bed - we do that at home each day and it takes 1minute. Every time we had to call for new towels or shampoo etc, it was always delivered to the room very quickly. Rubbish left out was also removed very quickly. The pool area was still fantastic, although the lounge covers looking a little "tired". What was disappointing - and this is the little things that elevate an experience - plastic cutlery and paper plates for the food, breakfast area has no personality, and a couple of the wait staff servicing the pool area were always more interested in their mobile phones than actually providing a service to the guests - so, we tipped accordingly! Disappointing to see The Study bar has gone, and the shop. All the time share stuff around the place was disappointing as well So overall, we still enjoyed our stay - but it's lost it's heart....that great upbeat, boutique hotel feel has diminished and just doesnt feel the same.…
The Ala Moana Center is walking distance (3 blocks west) from this hotel. The main restaurants and shops near Waikiki are located about 20 minutes walk east (parking is hard to find in Waikiki and expensive). My only complaints are that the refrigerator is very small (18"x18"), and there is no hot tub on the premises. The pool was cooler than what I like and you can't get a towel past 7PM, even though it is open until 9PM. The food was very good at the Beach Café on the premises, and the bartenders and servers were very friendly and efficient. Our room was ready about 2 hours before official check-in time. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was a good size with lots of storage, and the shower had great water pressure. The shower needed a little more cleaning (a little bit of dark spots on the tiles). The closet was big enough for all our clothes and to store our 2 large pullman suitcases and 2 carry-ons. The closet had a safe as well. I would definitely stay here again. We were there for a week, and even though we did not request any housekeeping, we received what we needed a few minutes after we requested it (towels, toilet paper, and tissues). …
Pros : great location, friendly staff, nice pool, electric car charger, air conditionner worked really well, great water temperatures in shower Cons : mattress really not comfortable, the room we had (1523) was next to the elevators and was noisy all the time, needs paint and new carpet it was really damaged
