There are great hostels and not so great hostels. This one is not so great. The most alarming is that the layout means that the two toilets on the main floor are directly off the kitchen and directly against the main little corridor near the kitchen, both with thin doors, one very flimsy. The mattresses are really quite comfy but...

The house is cute and very well located. That's the only good reason to go there. First, we arrived around 9pm, she told us she will be there at 11pm for check-in. Alright, we didn't plan to go to bed early so we didn't care. When she came, she asked to pay the 2 nights now, but the Paypal website...

My friend and I really enjoyed staying here. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the middle of town, or the start of the cliff walk, so a great location. Very clean and tidy, with full access to the kitchen and cereal for breakfast. There was no one else staying there when we arrived so we pretty much had the place...

Merrilee, the owner, offers a wonderful, detailed, historical walking tour each evening included with your stay. I highly recommend the tour! The rooms are spacious as are the bathrooms. Location is superb right off of Lower Thames with easy access to harbor, marinas, shops and restaurants.

Well-run, clean hostel located directly off the main street in Newport, RI. Shared accommodations are slightly too cozy, but the friendliness of the host rubs off on all visitors making it a pleasant living environ. Everything to see is in either walking distance or easily reachable by public transportation. Its also possible to rent a bike from the host for...

I stayed here recently. This is like staying in someone's house. We had a private room-double bed with sparse furnishings and shared bathroom. The bed was really uncomfortable. The shared bathroom was fine-it was always clean and we never waited for it. Since the room was private, it wasn't super cheap-$110 per night. Fairly cheap for Newport. The kitchen was...

This was more like a home-stay rather than a hostel. Very central location; everything can be easily reached on foot. The place is kept very clean and the bedrooms are reasonably big. A basic breakfast is provided – toast and cornflakes. Owner is very helpful with advice, etc. Although there is free, for limited times, on street parking it’s a...

This hostel is small by most standards, but you get a single bed in a room shared with just a few other people. I was here in November (off-season) and there were only a few other visitors. The host, who lives on the third floor, is really friendly and will make sure you are comfortable there and will even show...

Merilee is the best! Plain and simple. She is extremely attentive to her guests and I felt very at home the whole time. She truly seems to enjoy sharing her knowledge of the area and that made it a lot of fun to talk to her and plan out my day. The hostel is clean and has a very Newport...

“I staid in each of the "attic" rooms (one single, one double). The single is tiny, closet-sized, but quite comfortable and actually my favorite of the two with an openable skylight window. Seemed romantic somehow. The larger room was nice, but for some reason the breeze had a harder time reaching us and the room was hot sometimes (not at night). If you are solo, I would totally ask for the attic room!”
