My husband and I had a very warm and cozy stay at the Artful Lodger Inn this past week. While we stayed in a truly early American venue, all the modern conveniences including a gas fireplace made things easy and relaxing. Our space was especially nice due to a small enclosed porch off to the side of the bedroom. There...

After researching and reading reviews for several Newport bed and breakfasts, my husband and I chose The Artful Lodger for its centralized location to Bellvue Ave/Mansions/Cliffwalk and the many restaurants on Thames. We found that it was also an incredible value for the time we visited. Everything is literally walking distance! No need for the car especially on a nice...

This was our first experience staying in a B&B. We love Newport and decided to give it a go. The Artful Lodger was very clean, quiet and had a homey feel to it. We chatted and met several other guests while sitting in the parlor sipping our complementary coffee and biscotti. Phil was a great host and very discrete. I...

My fiancee and i needed a quick getaway during school vacation. Had no issues finding the place. The havisham suite was a very nicely decorated period room. Phil was tremendously accommodating for my Fiancee's various dietary needs, and proved quite able to provide a nice breakfast for her, and a separate, filling breakfast for me. The B and B is...

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful weekend in Newport and a lovely stay at the Artful Lodger. Phil, the innkeeper, was very accommodating with our late arrival on Friday evening, which unfortunately was even later than we had anticipated due to heavy traffic. We stayed in Grace's Room, which is on the first floor at the back...

The building is beautiful and well kept. The staff is friendly and helpful to all the visitors. The whole accommodation is very comfortable. I will keep coming back on my future stays in Newport. It is close to the mansions and not too far from the water front. It is an excellent place to stay on your next getaway.

Very friendly and accommodating owners. Breakfast is on the third floor. If you are on the second floor you are awakened by many footsteps of the cook at 6 AM. It was not a good morning for sleeping in.

The breakfast room has a wonderful birds eye view from above the magnolia tree and the breakfasts are indescribably delicious!! Phil is a warm and friendly host, a great chef and a wealth of information about the town he obviously loves so...

When my partner and I decided to go to Newport to check out the cottages dressed for Christmas, he suggested a big box type hotel. I don't like them, and set out to find B&Bs. He's never stayed at a B&B and was cautious, but given the price and location of The Artful Lodger, he said OK. Phil called us...

As you may tell, I usually do not respond to the reviews (which I should) but I take them all in, read through them and try to understand the perspective. I was taken back by this review however, it was wonderful to have someone write this which I feel has a very organic view of what I try to accomplish...

We prefer to stay in B&B's everywhere we travel around the globe and the more character a place has the better (within reason), I would say this stay was average and the price was great for off-season travel. Flexible check-in if you notify in advance (fees may apply), lovely views of the Bay/Bridge from the breakfast nook. Easy booking process....
