We just wanted say how excellent we thought the Jailhouse Inn was. We stayed overnight recently whilst touring New England and we could not have found a better place to rest. Christopher, who greeted us on arrive was the perfect host - friendly, helpful and bakes great cookies. Compared to the big brand hotels we had stayed in previously on...

Ceilings, tall. Bed, huge and on the hard side but comfy. Shower head, at the right height so my 6'3" partner could stick his head under it without bending. No foofy decoration - just simple and sparse. And really, really clean. I will agree with everyone else - great location and nice to have parking so we could walk pretty...

Dear sakecat22: Thanks for the fresh perspective! As a not-too-tall woman, I appreciate hearing a different viewpoint ;) I'm glad our ceiling and shower height (among other things) worked well for you. You're absolutely right: the Jailhouse is not "foofy" — that just wouldn't be right for an historic jail and police station. But it's certainly clean, comfy and well-located!...

This is just a really nice place to stay in Newport. The parking is easy and free, you can walk to everything located at the Harbor and if you have to use your car to go to the Mansions you can find an open spot when you return. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms on the second floor...

Just spent a few days in Newport and had a great stay at The Jailhouse Inn! Perfectly located within walking distance of shops, restaurants & the warfare - we didn't use our car the entire time we were there. Parking was at no charge and plenty of spots were available, we were given a pass to put on our dash...

What a great find! The rooms are just adorable, clean and.... perfect. The inn has its own parking which is a huge savings in Newport as you can walk from the inn to just about anywhere. The staff is incredibly attentive, and if you're an early riser, there is fresh coffee 24/7. The included continental breakfast is well above average...

This hotel was very cute. Everything you would need and super close to downtown. We didn't need to move our car at all! The only thing I would say is that the first room we were shown to was a two room suite type with a shared bath in the middle. The smell of bleach was very strong, the rooms...

Its not a luxury hotel so know that going in. The rooms are small but clean. Location good as waterfront within easy walking distance although neighborhood, while not dangerous, has a couple of bars right nearby and not sure I would want to walk around there late at night.

Christopher greeted us with a batch of warm cookies and that was the beginning of a lovely stay in Newport, RH. The front porch was a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers after a day of walking and touring. Christopher's recommendations for dinner were perfect. The breakfast was quick, easy and satisfying. The...

Dear Christie P: I'm happy to hear you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay. Thank you for your kind words and for recognizing Christopher in particular. He is a new addition to the Jailhouse team this summer and works very hard (as does the entire staff) to provide knowledgeable, helpful, friendly service to all our guests. He's also a...

We stayed there at the end of May for our 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time. Our room was large and everyone was very friendly. Dear Lori R -- Thank you for staying with us at the Jailhouse Inn and then at our sister property, the Pequot Hotel, on Martha's Vineyard! Tony (our head of maintenance and engineering) was very happy to make that suggestion, and we're all glad it worked out. In both locations, we seek to provide a central, walkable experience in a...

My 3 friends and I recently spent a weekend in Newport, & needed a room with 2 full size beds, which were hard to find in a town full of inns & B&B's typically offering only rooms with 1 king or queen bed. The Jailhouse Inn had the perfect size room for our group of four. The space was sparsely...
