Everything about this experience was simply one word-EASY! From finding a room, to checking in/checking out, and reserving breakfast was very well organized. My sister and I stayed in the Curwen House-Room C23 which was The Bowditch room. Very spacious and very clean! The Curwen House is located diagonal from the Ropes Mansion, and right down the street from The Witch House and Essex Street. We parked the car upon arrival and did not need it again until we left. We're already booked for The West House in 2023 and we cannot wait to go back!

During the pandemic everything was contact-less so we were able to text a real person with all check in/check out stuff plus any questions including food recommendations for take out or specifically Chinese food in walking distance. We originally stayed in the main house W10 Minerva's Treasure and the layout was a bit strange. You opened the door right into the bed, in the other area is the tv and a couch to lounge in. The whirlpool tub is in the room connected to the bed, and the bathroom is connected to the room with the couch. The door to the bathroom does not open all the way because it hits the toilet. The street light is right over the bed and the currents doesn't block it out well. If you live in the city it may not be too bad, but we do not and could not tolerate the noise from the room being right on the street at a busy intersection. We ended up moving after one night to the Curwen house C13 Pear room. This has its own entrance in the back by the parking lot which made unloading and loading the car super easy. You can also use the front door if you wanted to explore the house or use the common areas. We still had to walk to the main house for breakfast, but the walk was a block maybe, so unnoticeable compared to walking downtown

Hello Red, Thank you for leaving us a review! I'm sorry if your first night in Minerva's Treasure was uncomfortable, but I am glad the staff was able to move you to a more preferable room. We do have a number of different types of rooms, as the inn consists of three historic houses from different periods. All can be seen via 3-D walkthrough on our website, so hopefully this review will let other people know they can view those and then make their room choice before they come. I am very glad it worked out for you in the end. Best regards, Jill, Innkeeper

This place was nice! We had contactless check in which was pretty cool so it was easy to get in, we got all the info in a text message. The parking lot is like a 10 minute walk away but there’s a little driveway you can park in to unload. Carrying up our suitcases was a little difficult as we had to carry them up an antique looking very narrow staircase. Our room was a lot nicer than I expected it to be! The bed was super comfy and the bathroom looked like it was recently remodeled. The shower was amazing, it was a nice walk in shower with really good water pressure, and they supplied shampoo and shower gel dispensers! I wish we had been supplied with a medium towel to step on after the shower though, we were only given our two main towels and small hand towels and wash clothes. We just used a hand towel to step on, so not too big of a deal. The main issue we had with the room is that we had no thermastat. There was a wall AC unit but we weren’t given a remote for it and it had no buttons on it. My husband and I are hot often and we were sweating all night. I called and asked the front desk and they told us that the heat was already on in the building and the rooms had no individual thermostats. So if you get hot easily, definitely bring a fan with you. Breakfast was good the next morning, it was simple with limited options but it was still tasty. Also, while I was almost asleep I felt the sheets get grabbed by my feet and the sheet got quickly pulled down about half way off of me, I bolted upright bc it scared the crap out of me and my husband was just sleeping peacefully next to me. Even if it was him pulling the sheet, it would have been pulled sideways since he’s next to me, it wouldn’t have been pulled straight down. I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night bc of how freaked out I got from that. It wasn’t until the next morning that I researched this place a bit more and read that it’s haunted so I guess that explains what happened! The next night I sat on the bed and spoke out loud asking for the ghost to let me sleep peacefully lol and thankfully I slept good that night with no issues. Overall, a great experience and we would definitely stay here again. Very conveniently located for us to walk everywhere!

Overall this was a decent stay. The location was very walkable to most of the shops, restaurants and historic sites. We stayed in room W 11 which was on the main level. No complaints on the stairs for us, but the doors are very old and loud. You can hear anyone talking in the hall and every open and shut of the room doors. The street noise wasn’t too bad in our room, but the hallway noise kept us both up. I really liked the digital and contactless check in, and the staff was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and the staff all wore masks. The bathroom had been updated more than the main room, and the shower had great pressure and heat. The bed was comfortable but the room reflects the age of the hotel. There were lovely little complimentary items for our honeymoon, and for our dog. It was nice to have a pet friendly hotel and courtyard to eat breakfast in.

No elevators so be mindful what you pack because the stairs are steep, carrying baggage up several times is easier said then done. The virtual view of the rooms is a bit decieving looks bigger than it actually is. My room looked clean upon opening but I am very anal when it comes to the bathroom and it was "cleaned quickly" toilet and sink needed attention. They do provide a Kuerig but nothing beats a simple Mr.Coffee pot for hot coffee and less waste. Location was good for walking cafes etc.. but be prepared to walk much longer to main attractions such as Witch Museum. Staff was super friendly especially the gentleman who served us breakfast, very nice and respectful! Breakfast is small as others stated and you are limited so if this is your main meal of the day try a cafe. Very quiet at night no noise nice and cozy! One thing that I did not expect was all the texting for breakfast orders parking etc.. that can work well for some People several factors to look at with that one. Parking: if you stay in the main bldg you will have to walk to your car no big deal to us but could be for some with issues and you are crossing a very busy street. Overall a good experience and for the price the amenities should be updated

We traveled even in a pandemic. Mom's weekend away and it was the best Salem visit and first. Ha If your looking for location and love preserved historical hotels...then this is your place. The staff is the icing on the cake. We went for a girls weekend during the month of October for the Halloween festivities. Book early and ask for a haunted room. The front reception also got us a cheaper cab fare...uber was super expensive during October and she saved us fifty bucks! Room is as expected...small, clean and redone tastefully.

Let’s start with the positive the room was clean. Now for the not so pleasant- The bed sunk so far down and had so many lumps in it I actually had to sleep on the floor. Maid service was supposed to end at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, at 2 o’clock the maid finally shows up, room hasn’t been cleaned all day no refill of water or coffee. If you go when it’s rainy or snowy the sidewalks and steps are treacherous. If you are staying somewhere other than the main house good luck finding staff. Be aware if you were going to take the advantage of the breakfast option and you’re not staying at the main house you’re walking a couple blocks , Because breakfast is served only in the main house. The stay at this property was so bad I would never visit the city again.

We stayed in a family suite in the Peabody House which was very spacious, incredibly clean, had a comfortable bed along with a very modern bathroom. The sitting room downstairs could be used by any of the guests which was a nice too. Breakfast was generous and delicious, especially since we could sit in the garden and eat with the nice weather. You can walk to everything and I enjoyed being right next to the historic district with all the charming houses. Overall the hospitality is superb and I’m always happy supporting locally owned businesses. I’d definitely stay again.
P.S. I liked the modern updates like a keypad entry and texting your breakfast order for them to have ready the next morning!

We picked our room mainly because it had a fireplace. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived and were told the fireplaces weren't functional until the end of November. If this info had been stated clearly on the website we would have picked a less expensive room, and were very frustrated to be paying extra for an amenity we couldn't actually use. Our room also had a jacuzzi tub, which did not appear to be cleaned well, so that also went unused.
The room itself was fine, but not outstanding. The "king" bed was much shorter than a normal king, and felt as if it were actually two smaller mattresses out together.
The lobby of the hotel has birds, who are very noisy, and were unexpected. The hotel would do well to earn guests about the birds ahead of time, as they could be a problem for guests with allergies. The hotel has a small, steep staircase, which is to be expected in New England. The tight turn at the top of the staircase was difficult to manage with a suitcase. This isn't a fault of the hotel, as it is just due to the architecture style at the time, but visitors should be aware of what they are getting in to.
The includes breakfast was the best part about the hotel. The food was tasty, and the breakfast staff were all very friendly people.

My husband and I stayed at the Salem Inn, Curwen House for 1 night, last June.
Our room was close to the entrance. As we had large luggage we asked for a street level room to avoid stairs.
Booking process went smoothly.
Check in was really fast.
Check in and breakfast are in a different house of the Inn, 1,5 blocks away, which was no problem at all.
The Curwen House has a large private parking space at no additional costs.
The house is historical, very well preserved.
Our room was large and really nice!
We had a confortable and quiet night to sleep.
At house entrance, there was a liquor with glasses available to appreciate before going to bed.
It is walking distance from all the touristic points.
We definately recommend and would come back, would also have stayed an extra night to properly enjoy Salem.

Hi, The whirlpool is more like an oversized elongated bathtub with depth. It is contoured along the sides which make it narrower as it descends. 3 average size people can sit in it. Two people can sit in it pretty comfortably; however, because it gets narrower as it descends, it might be a bit of a squeeze for two people to lie down in it!
4 flights of steps to the fourth floor. The fireplace uses logs to burn, which they supply for you. No balconies available.
Hi Stephanie!
I'm not sure if there is a working fireplace in that room. The fireplace in the room I stayed in was not operational, but I didn't mind because I stayed there in the summer. I would call the Inn and ask them. The staff was very helpful and friendly when I stayed there. Have a great time!
