We thoroughly enjoyed our recent week at Lissenung. The diving is spectacular, especially at Albatross, but really every dive was special. Dive master Tame and boat handler Robert took great care of us, and Ian, resort manager and dive instructor, and Tame pointed out a pygmy seahorse, taking their time to ensure both my husband-buddy and I saw it! But really we were swept away (not literally!) by the sharks, eagle rays, mackerel, barracudas, trevallies, snappers, fusiliers and occasional turtle and the beautiful hard and soft corals and sponges. The bungalow accommodation was spotless, with polished wooden floors, a large covered verandah, hot shower and good towels and toiletries provided. There is a fan and mosquito netting on the windows, but bring repellent and we also took tablets against malaria. The meals were plentiful and delicious, especially the lobster mornay. The managers Ian and Sandy (covering for Dietmar and Ange who were away) couldn’t have been more helpful. We were sad to leave! Just a couple of negative points: we were trying to travel light and did not bring our dive BCDs and my husband did not bring his bootees and fins. We checked in advance and were told this would be no problem; however, the BCDs supplied were very ‘well-worn’ and mine inflated continually on the first day. It was changed immediately and was fine afterwards, but I noted that Tame’s inflator valve leaked all week. My husband’s fins were small for diving and not really adequate for some of the strong currents. If we had been advised appropriately, we would have brought all our gear and we recommend others to do so. Tame’s fins were in an even worse condition than his very worn-out BCD. They were so split that one fell off during one of the dives. He is an experienced and attentive professional and should have been supplied with good standard gear. Finally, the small open fibre glass single-engine motor boat is not really suitable for diving. While we understand that for just two divers it is impractical to take out the large proper dive boat, we pay the same as others and we could see that larger or less experienced divers would not be well served by such a small boat. It was extremely uncomfortable on the one rough day that we had. To reiterate - 90% wonderful-just the gear and boat that give a different impression. Highly recommend this place for experienced divers with their own equipment. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who took such good care of us.…
I returned to Lissenung Island Resort for surfing for 2 weeks in January. I was looking for surf where there is little on offer in the summer months at home in Western Australia. Despite not being the best surf month in this region due to NW winds, I had no shortage of waves and even some outstanding sessions with head high waves in glassy conditions. Surf guide, Simon, used his expert local knowledge to optimise every session and keep me out of trouble. Boat drivers, Benson and Robin were great at getting me to and from the breaks and waited patiently while I was out there enjoying myself for hours on end. I even had the benefit of dive guide, Hanna, coming out to try to capture my better moments on film. The resort staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Mostly, they were the same local people who took care of me on my first trip 5 years ago. We all had fun together on a couple of evenings when local musician, Tama, came over to entertain us with his ukulele and singing. This resort is a fantastic remote getaway for surfers and divers and I have no hesitation in giving it my glowing recommendation.…
A holiday of a life time.....clear blue water, soft dreamy breeze, lazing on the balcony of your bungalow.... so peaceful!!! Diving the best, snorkel just by your bungalow in the crystal clear warm water, to experience the hatching of over 100 turtle eggs. All this and fabulous food, not forgetting two amazing people Dietmar & Ange the owners of this amazing paradise.
We live in Kavieng and use Lissenung as a destination to get away from it all and switch off for a couple of days. And & Dietmar are very accommodating and make our stay very comfortable and relaxing. A great house reef to snorkel and very relaxed atmosphere. Well worth it!
From the moment my husband and I arrived on the island, and met the charming owners, Dietmar and Ange, we felt at home. During our 12 day stay on the island we met people from 4 different countries. Wonderful to meet people from all over the world travelling to this piece of paradise. The staff were a delight, very friendly and helpful. We had very interesting conversations with a number of the staff members, listening to their life stories and experiences... The clear blue waters, colorful coral gardens and abundance of spectacular marine life that awaits you when you dive one of the many reefs around the island, is a feast for the eyes. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the food tasty and well presented, truly a memorable experience that we wish to repeat. Mealtimes were really fun, talking to everybody and hearing their stories. Lots of laughter and little details that will be kept secret....Thank you Dietmar and Ange, for making our holiday so much fun, we had a great time!…
