FJ was humming when we visited and the rainforest retreat was full on night one. But there was no noise on either night in this mixed bag of accommodation from van park to motel to cabins to lodge. Perfectly serene. Gecko cottage on night one and tree lodge (more expensive) on night 2. Gecko was better. Siting of cabins great,...

Stayed here for two nights whilst doing a tour of franz josef. I stayed in the hostel part of the lodge. The facilities seems okay at first glance - the kitchen was well equipped. However there where only 3 toilets between Atleast 40 people and a few showers. However on using one of these showers I was notified to find...

We were a group of 3 and we stayed in a 4 bed flashpacker dorm and we had the room to ourselves which was great - no towels supplied which was a bit of a downfall but to be expected with a dorm I suppose. The room had ok beds and a good sized private bathroom but there was a...

Travelling with a bus tour and stayed here for two nights at the start of November. From the start we were welcomed warmly and the staff were really helpful. Facilities available were well maintained and the large hot tub (free) was definitely a bonus. As the premises are licenced, there unfortunately was no option to bring your own drinks. However,...

This is a great place to stay. They have accomodations to suit almost any need. We stayed in a Tree Hut which was quiet and roomy and clean. Right in town, it's easy to walk anywhere in town and is a very short drive to the Franz Josef glacier.

We received a very warm welcome from Kelly who selected a very good spot for our rather large camper van overlooking a forested mountain. She also booked us a spot in their private hot tub for an hour for the princely sum of 6 NZD. All facilities are excellent and the rainforest theme way above the other holiday camps we...

Stayed here in a double ensuite room. It was really comfortable and clean. The whole grounds are really cool (rainforest like). Food is good and great atmosphere in the bar. The staff in reception are outstanding, they are so helpful and offer so much time and advice to everyone. They were also brilliant when I asked to move a nights...

I stayed in a Gecko Cabin which is a single unit building of itself. The room itself is spacious enough for bed, sofa and kitchenette but they didn't bother to install any closet or drawers -- I ended up having to use the sofa to pile clothing. Barely enough room to turn around in the bathroom. The sink is the...

Great little spot within the Rainforest Retreat are the converted forestr huts in a secluded group with its own private spa. Rooms were comfy with a cosy bathroom. Dinner at the resturant was nice and bustling with good service
