Positives: - Location: very close to Lake Matheson and slightly away from town centre (still within walking distance) - Friendly and knowledgeable hosts - Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of food (eaten in a dining room with the view of Mt Cook). Take away muffins were a lovely touch. - Mini fridge in the room, kettle and complementary tea/coffee - Large bathroom (toiletries provided) - Electric blankets on the bed - Free WiFi - Lot of farm animals wanting to interact with the guests Negatives: - Heater in the room was a little noisy - Room a little small for a longer stay

While planning our trip and subsequently looking for a nice accommodation on the west coast of the South Island, we came across this beautiful accommodation by chance. Trish and Collin are simply the best hosts we met during our New Zealand tour. The accommodation was clean and in a very quiet location. It is also an unbeatable starting point for the numerous activities in the Fox Glacier area. From our hosts Trish & Collin we received well-founded and very helpful tips for our activities, enjoyed an extraordinarily delicious breakfast with always freshly prepared fruit, drinks, very good coffee, even delicious farm-eggs prepared on request/any style. As if that wasn't enough to keep us happy, we enjoyed probably the best panoramic view of the nearby mountains from the breakfast table. We were also allowed to admire Teddy's (dog) art pieces. All in all, it was an unforgettably beautiful stay (unfortunately too short with only 2 nights). Therefore, we can unreservedly recommend this accommodation and its hosts! Many thanks again to Trish & Collin.

My adult daughters and I had the opportunity to stay at Ropatinis recently. On arrival a plate was lovely fruit cake was delivered to our unit. We were in one unit which was roomy and very well appointed. The wooden furniture, made from local timber by Trish’s husband was very unique and suited the environment. The room was spotless. The beds were very comfortable with electric blankets on all 3 beds. Waking up hearing the lambs over the fence and eggs for breakfast being laid would be an experience so many people would never have the chance to experience. Breakfast was on another level. Not the ordinary continental! Of course fresh farm eggs! Wild meat cold meats. Home made bread. Trish joined us and an American family for breakfast and everyone enjoyed sharing travel stories and listening to suggestions from Trisha for local sights etc. After breakfast Teddy, the wee wonder dog, gave a lovely show of tricks for the American children. It was just a lovely time and a very homely experience. If you like a stay with a bit of that rustic rural feel then Ropatinis is tops. Thank you Trish. A delightful hostess with a great B and B

With virus fears reducing the number of Chinese tourist and avalanches closing the only road in from the north for a month, Fox Glacier was almost deserted when we were there in February. Ropatini's was feeling the pinch but still provided a quality stay. Rooms were large and comfortable and breakfast was above the average B&B fare. Hosts Trish and Collin were congenial, helpful and provided great company around the large breakfast table table crafted by Collin. We enjoyed our stay and hope their season improves.

The accommodation was perfect - all we needed for a short stay in Fox Glacier. Loved the way Trish and Colin joined us for breakfast (which was delicious BTW) and gave us tips on where to go/what to see. Would highly recommend!

Trish and Colin run a great place that is truly country. Fantastic welcome in a downpour and lots of suggestions for where to eat, hike and explore. The breakfast part of the stay was like being with family and chatting over coffee well after finishing the meal. Colin is a gifted Woodworker— self Taught after retiring from being a Chef. He incorporates found items like shells and stones into the live edges of his tables before sealing. The huge slab breakfast table includes pieces of jade and some gold flecks he got from panning the river in the dry season. Each room has counters and shelves that he has handcrafted. Trish is a master at getting her rescue dog Teddy to do tricks. He goes way beyond shaking hands. Highly recommend you visit them!

We had a great stay here. Trish and Colin are wonderful people and made us very welcome. The room was very cozy, warm and comfortable. Trish helped with lots of local knowledge which greatly enhanced our stay. The breakfast was terrific - home made bread and particularly home made muffins were delicious. Our 12yo son was smitten with the chickens, sheep and Teddy the dog. Overall a terrific place and would highly recommend.

Host was wonderful, breakfast great, and info was perfect. As it was raining when we arrived, the host recommended a daylight walk thru the rainforest and provided us with umbrellas. It was a beautiful easy walk and was helpful to know the terrain when we returned after dark to see the amazing glowworms. One trail with two amazingly different experiences.

The room is OK and comfortable. The host is very nice and the breakfast is a nice moment to discover local foods and have a chat with the rest of the people staying there as well as the host. Got to discover local honey and learn about the surroundings.
