Unexpected gem of a place. Right on the track to Tama lakes so doesn't get much handier if you are doing this walk. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Room was small but immaculately clean and very cozy. Great value weekend away. Bar was great too with undoubtedly one of the best views in New Zealand.
I booked for a group of friends to do the Tama Lakes and Tongaririo Crossing. The bedrooms was small but as expected, except for the safety bar on the top bunk which broke off during our first night stay. Maintenance took a look and managed to push it back in place, but was still wobbly. (also the ladder was not attached to the bed, but that is pretty common for backpackers). Also there was only 1 plug per room, which was a bit of a hassle when all 3 of us needed to charge phones, but a multi-plug would be helpful to pack if you're in a group . The communal facilities were very clean and well maintained, and had a fully stocked kitchen, with microwaves, stove, cutlery, etc. The bathrooms were also very clean. Spa is only open 4pm-7pm and needs to be booked in advance. The location is great for Tama Lakes as it is right on the door step. Definitely worth booking here if you are keen for this walk.…
We loved our stay after walking the Tongariro Northern Circuit. We were a group of 7 and the family hotel room was ideal. Super shout out to the chef, the meals for both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Thr Big Breakfasts were huge and great range of good. Waffles and breakfast burger also very generous and delicious. Dinners were all great, we had burgers, pizza, steak & chicken. Reception were really helpful with changing a booking, lots of extra dry towels & helpful local tourist advice. The outside is a little tired but don't be put off, the rooms are nice, food amazing, location excellent and service really good.
Stayed here for the first time and had a great time. Having a drink whilst sitting out on the deck overlooking Ngauruhoe was a definite highlight. Food was good, with a somewhat limited menu, but the breakfasts were excellent! Done up well as a ski lodge, but also great for a summer visit. Will stay here again.
I booked the hotel as a break from work and the stay was perfect. The room was amazing, view, comfort, size and cleanliness was perfect. The standard for the nightly rate was above what I could expect. On site restaurant served great food and bar selection was good. Staff friendly and welcoming. A little noise from neighbouring rooms. Shower and bathroom excellent. Bed very comfortable and standard of everything in room good. I was also impressed by the standard of housekeeping and also how quiet and efficient they worked through the wing. Excellent team, will recommend and stay again.
Wow where do I start . . . . .not only were the staff super friendly and accommodating the resort was clean, room was everything I could need and the food wow. Shout out especially to kaz and Michelle. Nothing was to big or small even bringing forward my accommodation after coming off the mountain early due to the weather and genuinely asking how my hike was. Super impressed and will stay here again and recommend it to others.
Another great visit, very comfortable, large rooms with outstanding views and balcony. Recommend Tongariro or Ngauruhoe view rooms. Lounge bar, service and food excellent. Relaxed feel. Owners and their team are a delight. We will be back.
Had a great stay at the Skotel. The room was reasonably priced, clean, tidy and very cosy. Breakfast a tasty buffet. My dinner was delicious and plentiful. I drank some heart waring mulled wine and had a few giggles at the friendly bar with an excellent vibe. Great place to stay and the views are outstanding!!!
We met our family from Auckland here - we are from Palmerston North. What an amazing find just behind the Chateau - so warm and hospitable. Every staff member was so nice and nothing was a problem. The owners were onsite and around a lot working alongside their team and you could tell. Old fashioned hospitality. We had a queen room with a view and our kids with two grandchildren had a queen bed and bunks. Good sized rooms with great bathrooms. Restaurant and bar down the hall and a huge upstairs kids zone and tables for games, chairs and couches for reading. Ski hire downstairs again with great staff. The weather was abysmal - stormy, raining, fog, freezing!!! We were cozy! We did venture down to the Chateau for lunch. We highly recommend this place if you are travelling with kids - lots of room to rim and no grumpy people running the place! 🤩🌻…
Arrived to a winter wonderland, snowing and after an evening dusting. We booked the Ngauruhoe room, which was perfect. After about ten minutes, the magical Mt Ngauruhoe revealed itself in the most spectacular way , right in front of our room. The room was cabin style pine, and so cozy. The bed was good, and the room was clean. It is still the original 60's/70's decor, but that made it more charming for me. It was a traditional ski lodge style. The check in and service was impeccable. We went for a walk around the village, and had a coffee at the Chateau (which didn't have as nice views !). The lounge and bar area with it's warm open fire was wonderful. The atmosphere is very collegial. We had dinner in the restaurant, and the food was good. The only negative for our stay was the breakfast, which was expensive, and sub-standard. The food was cold, and the only eggs that were available were poached. We asked for scrambled or fried, and were told not possible, which was disappointing, given it was $22 per person. I would highly recommend this hotel, it is the perfect spot for Ruapehu and the Tongariro NP.…
