As you are driving towards the Whakapapa Ski Field, the Chateau Tongariro Hotel really stands out. It is an imposing and grand building which would be right at home in the mountains of France or Switzerland. The staff here are formal but welcoming and the rooms are well-appointed and retain their original heritage character. Our room was a little small,...

We went for two midwinter nights. We were given a room at the top with amazing views of Ngauruhoe and complimentary champagne, chocolates and a personalised card. The room was clean, warm, very comfortable and nicely decorated. We ate in the Ruapehu Room the first night, buffet dinner the following, and buffet breakfasts. All food was excellent, as was the...

We dropped into Chateau Tongario Hotel for lunch on our way to New Plymouth. The historical 1920's hotel facade is very impressive with its grand architectural features sitting proudly within the beautiful dual world heritage National Parks , Whakapapa Skifield & village. The Chateau Tongario Hotel is 30 mins drive from Lake Taupo. It was designed by Herbert Hall who...

My family and I had dinner at the Ruapehu Restaurant...the service was lovely, mostly international staff. I have prawns for entree and salmon for main with sides of potatoes and courgettes. Very tasty meal, lovely setting, very Victorian.

We went to the chateau on a rainy day to have a bite to eat around 11am. We sat in the main lounge. The service was fantastic, very friendly and staff were patient with the kids. Food was great - we had scones and the soup which were delicious. Hot drinks were hot and good! We loved the old world...

Pulling up at the Hotel and admiring its stunning architecture and grandness is truly a breathtaking experience, especially with the mountains in the backdrop. Our initial welcome at reception added to the class of this hotel, they receptionists were attentive and very formal. We were given our room passes then went on our way. To get to our rooms we...

A great elegant place to hold a Mid Winter Ball. The service was excellent as you would expect from a First Class establishment. Everything was high class from porters to the Waiters(Waitresses.). Once in a life-time experience.

When you go into a hotel such as this stature and greeted with smiles and door being opened for you by the doorman, is fantastic. However it took three times to get a simple coffee right, no smiles and a bad attitude isn't attractive nor does it add any class. The coffee is weak not sure if they too busy...

We had a great stay at the Chateau, the staff are friendly, the hotel being very old and historical, is clean, well kept and warm. There is lots to do there for the kids with a warm pool and a picture theatre and large lounges to sit and read looking out at the central plateau. The only big let down...

We went to the chateau with friends, what a great evening and dinner. The staff were very attentive and polite. The dinner was everything that we expected. Atmosphere in the lounge was great with the big open fire.
