However our room was lovely and the bed was super comfortable. After our checkin experience we looked for somewhere else to eat, however nothing elsewhere appealed and we returned to the hotel to check out the menu.
Thankfully more Welcoming staff had come on to work and they were great.
Arriving at 2:20 PM (check-in starts at 2:00), we were informed that our room had been generously donated to someone else because they were "full." Funny, I thought booking in advance meant you actually reserved a room, not entered a game of musical chairs.
And so, back we went to the infamous Room 2—ground floor, directly across from the pub entrance. It's basic to the point of parody. The mattress is as supportive as a disgruntled co-worker, but at least I had my own pillow, the true MVP of the stay.
The bathroom had its own unique charm. The aroma wafting from the sink pipe could probably be bottled as “Eau de Plumbing Nightmare.” We quickly learned to keep the plug closed to preserve what dignity remained. And the shower? Let’s just say "Cell Block 2" may as well be its official name.
For $165 a night, we hoped for a bit more than a trip down memory lane to Room 2. While we can appreciate the consistency of the experience, it’s probably not the kind they’re aiming for. Unfortunately, after this stay, we’re not sure we can return—booking in advance shouldn’t feel like rolling the dice.
The owners don't seem to care about the hotel side of their business as we got no warning of the dance party that pounded away until midnight and we couldn't even find or contact the manager or any sort of customer service before we left. Cleaning staff said they'd get the manager to contact us, but that never happened.
What a scam, drive the customers out after one night so they can rent it out again with no refunds and make twice the money.
Even if you were to visit on a quiet night, there's nothing all that jice about the rooms, they don't even have ac or heat.
It's a real shame because the restaurant side seems well run and the location is nice. Just don't be fooled by any combined restaurant and hotel ratings, this was the worst place we've stayed in the last 10-20 years.
What a horrible and old bathroom for such a high price. Pictures from the website gives the impression that everything is new or renovated, but not really.
Paid $155 for a room that didn't even have a small kitchen, only a kettle a wine fridge and a really bad shower.
Spoke to the staff about the shower and had right away a plumber to fix it.
Later noticed that the internet connection would drop every other minute.
Went to talk to staff again and a guy from the restaurant said: if the wifi is free, you can't complain, only if you are paying for it.
Another excuse was that this is a small town and the internet is like that. Come on. I've been in smaller towns with no Countdown or Noel Leeming and had better wifi connection (with no fiber).
Please guys, just don't say in booking.com that you have "internet free of charge in all areas". This is not true.
I had to use all my data from my phone to be able to work and very often had to use the restaurant connection and leave my partner many times in the room to be able to check emails once my data was already gone.
Didn't enjoy at all my staying there.
We each had a lovely seafood chowder and then shared some squid.
Both nicely cooked and served quickly. It was fairly full of diners and we were impressed how soon our meal arrived.

There is one vegetarian entree a leek and blue cheese tart with rocket And one vegetarian main course - A very tasty lentil dish. Both have had a lot of thought put into them and they’re very nice. It’s a buzzy restaurant that is very popular. I do wish they would have more vegetarian options as I would go more often. Also a zero beer on the drinks list is a must to me these days but the supplier doesn’t offer one.
My partner loves it As the meals are varied for meat eaters and are a good size.
Today we went for lunch.
We just went at the restaurant, not the hotel.
Great quality and quantity in serving. Impressive Kids menu. Great eye fillet for adults with vegetables and no fries as option to be healthier.
Warm atmosphere close to the wood fire place.
Elegant.
