Junction Hotel Dimbulah is a small country pub located 51.9kms south-west of Mareeba. The pub officially opened its doors to the public in 1908, as a small one story building. Due to the town rapid increase it was quickly re-built into a two story building complete with ladies lounge, kitchen, bar (for the men) and a kitchen. However this was short lived in the year 1953 the pub and six other homes were burnt to the ground. Hastily re-built it took on the design of the once booming industry of the time, tobacco. Year's of many renovations needed the pub was sold and new ownership took place in 2018, were renovations commenced straight away. Although modern and fresh on the inside there's an old country charm about the pub with a new addition of a bottle shop. The back bar was restored and the outside area turfed, the fans were replaced with air-con and the kitchen was returned to working order.

Although we didn't stay overnight, we enjoyed a drink at the bar in this typical Aussie outback pub. It's the real deal.

Chat with the locals or the many back-packers who stay in Dimbulah while they work on farms.

Well what a surprise this place was!
They don’t do lunch and if you sit inside the bar person is louder than you can imagine.
Surely you don’t need to drop and almost smash beer bottles into the bin. Let alone all the banging and clanging for no apparent reason.
Now we know why the 20 odd patrons sat outside.
I would never recommend this hotel.

I had to stay in Dimbulah on the way up North to commence work. The Junction seemed a decent place to stay from the get-go, I am also a backpacker so I do not expect much in the way of apperance or cleanliness. We had already stayed in this accomodation previously for one night and had returned between working shifts. The first time was a little expensive at $35 each for a twin room which I shared with my travel companion. However, upon returning the twin room was taken by the owners family, which visited frequently. We were then taken to a double room each by a member of staff. They said that we would be able to stay in these rooms for the same price as the twin room. So naturally we accepted, this was not communicated to the owner and we had to pay double for these rooms! It cost us $280 each to stay there. There was no sympathy even considering we are backpackers. If you are reading this I am trying to keep it professional but there is a hint of anger written in these words. So my advice is to stay well away from this place and stay in Mareeba or even Cairns!

This hotel is a disaster, no accommodation, no meals and staff (appear to be mainly backpackers) have no knowledge of drinks. Asked for a bitters, lime and soda and was given a small glass with a handle full of green lime cordial and lemonade and no ice!!! Packets of chips are the only form of food available. Best to visit hotels in Mareeba if wanting a meal or alcohol.

Apologies for the bad experience that you had, however the pub is under new ownership. Meals and accommodation are available. Our staff are well trained and will most definitely be able to serve a bitters, lime and soda.

was told by someone in the pub, don't come to Dimbulah for the night life and yes they were correct,at least you don't have to wait long for a drink 😁 .The kitchen is currently being under repair so once that's done it will make the bar a bit better

We stopped in for dinner while staying at a nearby air bnb in Dimbulah. It was surprisingly good food! Good selection of beers for an outback pub. The bar and kitchen staff were responsive and friendly. The toilets were sparkling clean. We’ll be back next time we’re staying up here.

We enjoyed a quiet Sunday lunch with family at the Junction Hotel because of the new kitchen’s release of their menu. We enjoyed the Junction burger, pumpkin and feta salad, and spaghetti bolognese. Unfortunately for us they’ve been busier than expected and had run out of fish for both the kids fish and chips and the barramundi. We were compensated with an extra serve of chicken nuggets.

The newly revamped hotel seems like its off to a good start but will need to invest in extra staff until they iron out kinks in their service in order to create a sustainable business in a tricky market. The Junction has a history of being a very rough outback bar; it’s not going to be easy to keep both locals and tourists happy.

Thank you for your comments and apologies for the service. The pub hasn't had a kitchen for a few years, it did take some getting use to. However the staff have overcome that barrier and are going full steam ahead.

We stopped in here for a drink on our way through the town. We were impressed with all the new renovations that are happening and when speaking to staff told of what is to happen once what is under progress is completed. The whole place is due to undergo an upgrade.
Although there is much to happen it will be impressive once completed taking dining to a new level. The accommodation has been upgraded. The outdoor bar looks amazing. There is no kitchen presently running but once things are completed think we’ll need another visit.

Thank you for your comments, the renovations have been competed. The hotel has changed somewhat in looks but still maintains that great country charm.
