Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a wonderful surprise to find this hidden gem in the middle of the beautiful hunter valley! Friendly staff, beautiful nature, close to the best wineries. I recommend this to any group of friends or family who loves an outdoor experience in this beautiful and generous valley.

We have decided to spend a two-night stay for a long weekend holiday with friends and enjoyed the place very much. Great to unwind and to enjoy a peaceful stay in wonderful surroundings. We enjoyed the porch and the barbecue very much. Would come back again and highly recommend it. Thank you Suzy, great host.

We arrived in a little under 2 hours from Sydney and settled in to enjoy a few gin and tonics on the wrap around balcony to soak up the stunning twilight panorama of the mountain range in hues of pink and purple before firing up the proper woodfired bbq out the back. Having finally found a place we can take the dogs i was more than happy to spend the day in the huge hammock and keep an eye on the pups as they tore around the paddocks, while the girls got chauffeured around the vineyards, returning mid afternoon to rudely awaken me from the kind of snooze you dream of. Must be the chiming of those bellbirds. This is no sterile hotel. It feels like the family beach house or farm you spent holidays in as a kid. Horses came and bludged carrots over the fence, which delighted the kids, and we took a bushwalk and saw roos, a wallaby and one of the kids reckoned they spotted a wombat. Cant wait to go back. Would recommend taking friends from overseas for a laidback bush getaway, wine tasting and anyone with dogs would love it.

We have paid $450 a night for our family to stay in this digusting dump. From the minute you step onto the veranda you know you have made a major mistake. The house smells and is full of old broken junk, there is paint pealing, the carpet is degusting. We had to wash the dishes before we used them and they are all chipped. My daughters bed was broken, infact the whole house is broken, it's full of broken furniture. The wood heater dosent work, all the furniture has broken down and you constantly won't to get the disinfectant out. It's the worst place we have ever stayed at

We hired the Swallows cottage for one night over the long weekend! We were told by the owner that the cottage is of a certain period, and therefore, we did not expect a five star lodging. The Swallows homestead is perfect for a family or a large group. It was 5 of us (3 generations) and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! Everything in the house is dated, but it all somehow sits well together. The huge wrap around verandah is where we spent all our time and absolutely loved it!. There were three outdoor table settings and each one is perfect for one part of the day. There are also sofas, chairs and a hammock to relax in. The furniture on the verandah is dated and weather affected which is to be expected for any outdoor furniture in the country setting. There are other two cottages on site, and there were people in them, however, they are far enough that we had total privacy. There is everything you can think of at the house - the kitchen has all the utensils you can think of, there are board games to entertain and a pool table as well. The main living area is airconditioned which was very pleasant on the hot day, perfect for watching tennis on the TV. Two of the 4 bedrooms have ceiling fans, whilst others have pedestal fans. The beds were nice and had clean linen and there were clean towels provided. We will most likely stay here again as it is a perfect balance of value for money.

We decided to have our Christmas lunch at Bistro Molines and stay overnight close by. I was assured that the homestead was rustic and clean by the tourist information office and the owner. The homestead is in a beautiful, peaceful setting and the linen was clean, the only two positive things I can say. The front verandah was dirty and untidy. Inside the walls were peeling and in desperate need of paint, the carpets were very dirty and the rugs scattered over them would prove a trip hazard for the unwary. The furniture was shabby and dirty, very uninviting as was the kitchen and the bathroom. We spent quite a bit of time washing crockery and cutlery before we could use it. We were charged $100 per person, to be paid in cash! Highway robbery to say the least.

Eight of us went out for a magnificent lunch to Mollines Bistro and had booked the Swallows cottage for an overnight stay. On arrival the setting and surrounding scenery was very beautiful, peaceful with just the bellbirds to break the silence. The cottage on the exterior appeared quite lovely but as soon as we set foot on the verandah we knew we had made a mistake in our choice. The furniture on the verandah was shabby, old and dirty. There was a barbeque on the verandah, no way we would use it, too dirty. Inside was no better, some rooms had no working lights, very ill equipped kitchen. The feeling overall of the cottage was very uninviting and the whole place is in need of a thorough clean and complete paint job. The only saving grace was the sheets and towels were clean and beds not too bad. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone!

Cannot state strongly enough what a waste of money and time this place is. Extremely dirty and uninviting on all levels. The linen was clean. This accommodation really doesn't deserve a ranking at all, but one if mandatory.

We stayed here some time ago and couldn't leave soon enough. A waste of our time and money. Peaceful spot, however, that is where it ends. Took the makings of a candlelight dinner but couldn't bring ourselves to use the dirty, incredibly shabby and ill equipped kitchen. No sharp knives or oven dish of any kind. Lounge area completely uninviting, stuffing hanging out of armchair and lamp shade badly ripped. Stayed one night, arose at sunrise and left. Desperately needs some money spent on it by someone who GENUINELY cares about it.

Five of us stayed for 3 nights in The Swallows Cottage. It is a charming old farmhouse with the interior and furniture to match! Very clean and cosy, loved sitting in the big old sofas. We jammed on guitars and ukuleles by the log fire till the wee hours, played pool and were woken up to the lovely sound of the bellbirds. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of food for us! The cows were a little shy, but so serene watching them graze in the distance. Everything we needed was there, even gumboots and raincoats...you won't need to take anything except your clothes, (oh and maybe some CD's :) We had a great time!
