This Holiday Inn Express is in Mill Valley just north of San Francisco. We stayed here for couple nights as we thought it would be a nice spot in between San Francisco and Sonoma. The Hotel is ok. Its older but seems like it was renovated recently and its clean. It was also quiet and there was plenty of parking. The views from here were nice and there are some hiking trails around if you like to walk around and enjoy the scenery. However... the price for the rooms was very high and staying here was not worth it. In retrospect we would have stayed much higher quality hotel for the same price in San Francisco with views of the Bay and take in the city. Also found that this town does not like tourists very much. The hotel staff is nice, the place is clean.. if you can afford it.. its good.

We really enjoyed our stay for many reasons including ample parking, fantastic saltwater pool, well heated hot tub, breakfast options and availability, and room comfort. The only critique would be the size of the bathroom. It was incredibly small, but did have great water pressure. The location of this hotel was fantastic. A very easy drive from downtown SF and within walking distance to many eateries/pubs/drug stores. The walking trail right out the front door was also appreciated. This is just a really nice area and extremely close to Muir Woods and Sausalito. The hotel also offers small bottles of water which was such a nice touch! Side note: The pizza from Pizza Hacker was SO GOOD - you can easily walk to pick up your pizza.

We wanted to explore the San Francisco, but wanted to stay a little out of town, The Holiday inn Mill valley was the perfect location for us. The hotel is 5 minutes from the sausalito ferry terminal or a 15-20 minute drive to San Francisco.
The hotel and the rooms were very clean, the beds were comfortable and the area was quiet.
The lady that checked us in wasn’t very welcoming, it just made for an awkward moment, but other than that everything was great.

They have tried to update this, but it is like lipstick on a pig. It is a motel. The halls and rooms smell stale. The strong disinfectant they are using does not help. The smell made me sick to my stomach. I come to Marin often. This place is off the list.

Prices in the San Francisco area are absurd. I stayed here at a price about 50% higher than a comparable HI Express in other suburban metro areas because it was the least expensive decently rated hotel in the Mill Valley area. I reserved a "bay view" room and was treated to a view of the parking lot. There was an elephant walking in the room above me. I could hear conversations in adjacent rooms. The only positive comment is that the breakfast was excellent. I won't stay here again. In fact, I will try to stay in another city during my west coast drive vacations.

Disappointed. I am a loyal customer, not only to HIE but to this property. I come here on business and want to be back, but DO NOT USE RM131!! First, the hallways in this building are incredibly stinky. Perhaps it was recently flooded (signs around because of the bay). Secondly, Rm131....the door jam is off, so the room door will NOT lock. The latch is warped and is the ONLY option to lock your room. The toilet stops flushing in the evening hours?? The toilet is about a foot away from the wall, so it's in the walk area of the bathroom. I will be back next month, hopefully a better room next time.

Words cannot express the unsafe and unsanitary conditions of the rooms. Do not be fooled by the bright LED lit lobby as the rooms are old, filthy dirty and unsafe! Lets start with the first room they gave us. After walking in right away my wife sees a roach on the floor board. I know things like this happen sometimes so I step on it and we move on. As I do my obligatory room check for weirdos I look in the bathroom, closets and under the bed. Then I go check the sliding door to the patio and its unlocked! (Note we are on the first floor facing the back of the hotel looking at the parking lot to the property next door) So I make sure I lock the door and put on the chain latch. Does house keeping check the sliding doors? Maybe they just missed this one. (Stay tuned). So its time to go to dinner. We leave the room and close the door my wife checks to make sure the door is locked and it opens up. What? We close it again and without the key card just opens up. I tell my wife to go in the room and secure the deadbolt and I can still open the door without a key card! WTF! Go to the front desk the agent is on the phone by the business center and I let her know the issue. She gives us a new room. Now we no longer have a connecting room to my kids who were staying in the room next door. Makes me think who were the poor people who stayed in our room before not knowing the door was unlocked the entire time! Has anyone been robbed in that room recently? Well back to the second room. We check the room out locks work this time! But when I checked the sliding door again unlocked! An we are on the first floor facing the street! Know this is not a coincidence! Someone is setting up guest to be robbed! No once else has my level of OCD to check every last detail. How many guest did not check the sliding door and has anyone been robbed while away from their room! Tired and hungry we lock the sliding door and go to dinner. Back from dinner its time to get ready for bed. Pull off the top sheet on the bed and its covered in little dog hairs! WTF! That was the final straw! We check out and do not stay the night! I tell the front desk girl and again busy on a personal phone call she was pretty irritated that I was bothering her night. I asked her for her managers card and requested she have her call me in the morning. He response " you have her card you can call her". Sum it all up unsafe, dirty and employees who do not care. Stay away from this hotel. I stay at Holiday Inns all the time. I am not a 5 star hotel snob. A hair in the sink or tub does not bother me. But the experience I had here by far the worst I have experienced in my life! I have been a IHG member since 2002!

Unfortunately, the first room that we were put in had some kind of animal (most likely a rodent) trapped in the cieling of our bathroom. We could hear it scratching and screeching. I let the staff know about this and we were immediatly transfered into another room, which I much appreciated. If you do come here, try to get a room in the building directly connected with the office. Our second room was comfortable and was just what we were expecting.

We stopped by on a road trip and ended up adding a second night to our stay. Great location just over the Golden Gate bridge, so convenient for exploring San Francisco during the day, and retreating to a peaceful oasis in the evening.
The hotel is under construction currently but they manage it so well that the impact was negligible - new rooms look great. They also did a fantastic job at enhanced cleaning and safety protocols around COVID-19.
The highlight for our girls was the outdoor, heated pool. All the (indoor) pools at the hotel along our way were closed (or should be) but here we were able to make a "reservation" for the pool (COVID-19 safety), and we ended up with the entire pool to ourselves for the day. Beautiful.
We look forward to a return visit(s).

This property is average at best. I can't understand their justification for charging a rate more than an Intercontinental in San Francisco. Nonetheless, I was able to book this place using a Chase free night certificate. Boy, do I regret using it for this property. Not to sound like a snob, but don't they usually recognize IHG Platinum members? If they don't, it's news to me. Also, I also thought they automatically upgrade you to a nicer room? I also reserved a pool side room. When I got there, they gave me non-pool side room with a view of Highway 101. Awesome guys! Only reason I didn't make a fuss is that I got the room free of charge. I get to the room and notice the sliding back door didn't close all the way, but hey...they gave us a chain lock to lock the door. Wow! Hate to keep going here, but the bathroom was very small for two people. We got a 2-queen room, so imagine 4 people sharing it! With COVID restrictions, all I got for breakfast was a cold breakfast biscuit with sausage to reheat in my room's microwave oven. Talk about value! (sarcasm) The only thing good going for this place is the free parking, the lagoon views, and close proximity to the public biking/hiking trail and Muir Woods.

SFO is closer, you can take the tram/ subway, and the Muni in to the city. We also used Uber alot, it's pretty reasonable. That's what we did on our 1st trip. Our 2nd trip to San Francisco, we rented a car.
There are more places to choose from in the Mill Valley area.
