We arrived a bit early and Stella was able to check us in early. She was very friendly and professional. We enjoyed running into her throughout the property as she was able to give us some very usable info on Mill Valley. I would call this inn ‘rustic elegance’. We booked a 2-queen room and there was a small bottle of wine and some chocolates waiting for us—nice touch. There was a Juliette balcony that overlooked a town street which was very charming. The room was a bit small but was definitely doable and the beds were comfy. The bathroom was stocked with toiletries and the shower had good water pressure. The property itself is very unique, nestled around redwoods yet right in downtown Mill Valley. The backside of the inn is sort of in a forest —so cool! It’s totally different from the front which overlooks the town so it’s like you get the best of both worlds. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating especially during the free afternoon happy hour and the delicious breakfast. This inn is within easy walking distance to many restaurants, boutiques and other shopping. There’s a wonderful market just a block or so away that is definitely worth visiting. Again a big shout-out to Stella who was very helpful and made our stay wonderful.

The Mill Valley Inn was very nice. Check-in was easy. They took our bags up to our room. We had room number 15 on the third floor overlooking the Main Street. It was a lovely room with a balcony. They supplied water and chocolates every day plus there was room service every day. The breakfast service was excellent very attentive people. The food was fresh and beautifully displayed. the wine hour in the evening from 5 to 630 was excellent Miguel that served the wine Went above and beyond to make sure everybody had the kind of wine they wanted. We had to check out on Sunday, but our flight was not leaving till 8 o’clock. The front desk was able to hold our suitcases so we could take a hike up into the redwoods and have lunch before we came back to get them. This was a great location to walk around Mill Valley and I would definitely recommend it.

We selected this hotel for its location right in the middle of the town of Mill Valley and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. While the room could have used a little refresh, overall it was clean and comfortable. Our balcony overlooked Throckmorton Avenue and provided a great view of the homes built up the hillside. It was very quiet in the hotel. We enjoyed the wine and cheese provided daily at 5 p.m. and the breakfast each morning. Kirstin handled our registration and was extremely welcoming and helpful.

Our stay at the Inn - in three separate rooms - was disappointing for all. My room in particular (in the guest house at the rear in total darkness) was terribly depressing. I felt like I was in a tomb. The toilet wouldn't flush so someone came and "fixed it" with a rubber band. The bed was so high even though I'm tall I had to jump to get on it. The room was freezing and the heat didn't work. My sibling's room also in the guest house had no privacy as all windows looked out onto a common deck and walkway (including the toilet). He had no bathroom sidelights which made shaving difficult, no convenient place to plug anything in, his toilet seat was loose, and his bed was uncomfortable. My other sibling's room in the main building had a lovely terrace but a strange fireplace thing that took up loads of space and didn't work well. She was also cold and her heat didn't work. She found the bed uncomfortable. Hallways outside the main building rooms are very unattractive. As I was at the Inn for a week I asked to change rooms but they were not able to accommodate my request. The price was very high for the quality of the rooms. It seems the Inn may be coasting by on it's location which is right downtown.

Response from Justin Flake, General Manager at Mill Valley Inn
Responded 24 May 2023
Dear "138devonm," We're really sorry and disappointed that you disliked our hotel so much. A setting in a wooded area is not for everyone. If we had known that a wooded area with lots of trees made you uncomfortable, we would have definitely recommended that you stay in our main building, when you booked. I'm sorry we were sold out of those rooms and did not have one to offer you, after you arrived. While I respect your opinion and wish to honor it, I would like to speak to some of your complaints so as to clarify for guests who are considering a room in the Creek House, and are offering their time to read my response. The remotes for our in room heating and ac units are, admittedly, a little tricky. We would have been happy to send someone to your room to show you, and/or your sibling, how to use it, when could not get the heat going. Some of the windows, in the room your sibling stayed in, face our shared veranda. Three hotel rooms have access to this veranda and rarely, if ever, does a guest from one room cross in front of the windows of another. That said, the window covering over the bathroom and other windows make the window completely opaque, from the inside and out. Beds are very subjective. Just so as you know it was not to the bed being hold, it is a Serta Presidential Plus. It was purchased in February of 2022. We will definitely make sure to check the toilet seats to make sure they're tight. I'm sorry this bothered your sibling. Lastly, the "strange fireplace thing" is a chimenea. It's a small, freestanding fireplace, with a chimney that connects to the ceiling. It sits in the corner of the room. Most of our guests really like it. Once again, I'm truly sorry that your experience here was not a good one. I wish you the best. For any of our potential guests that are still reading, please feel free to reach out to me, directly, a the hotel, if you have any concerns our questions, about your stay. Sincerely, Justin Flake GM Mill Valley Inn

Stayed in one of 2 cottages on the property. Our cottage was the furthest in the back of the property and very quiet, set under some amazing redwood trees and next to a stream. The Inn is in the middle of town but the cottage setting made it feel like we were in the forest. The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious. It had tall ceilings, a super comfortable bed, fireplace, mini fridge, coffee maker, bathrobes, wine glasses, and large TV. The stay included a continental breakfast buffet and evening wine and cheese. Breakfast included selections such as fruit, yogurt, pastries, bagels, oatmeal, and quiche. The evening wine and cheese had some decent wine selections. The Staff were very friendly and wonderful. The Inn is within walking distance to some excellent restaurants and a short drive from Muir Woods. Overall a quaint retreat. Would recommend to anyone looking to staycation in the area or if they’re visiting SF but want to stay somewhere more tranquil than the city.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. Delighted. If you love charm and nature, this is for you. We stayed in the Penthouse suite for the first part of our week. It was previously booked for the weekend so the last 2 nights of our trip we stayed in a king deluxe room. Both rooms were so beautifully appointed and luxuriously comfortable.
The penthouse suite has a spa shower and bath to die for. The personal deck, the kitchenette. I felt like royalty. The penthouse suite does have an A frame ceiling so just be aware in some corners if you're tall.
The king deluxe room- has the most delightful deck. The fireplace in the room added such functional aesthetic. It was a win.
The location was perfect. So easy to get to CA 101 and connect to everything. Yet the town of mill valley offered so much of its own, you didn't have to go anywhere.
One last note: We had a minor miscommunication on charges while there and the attention to the matter was immediate and professionally handled with courtesy and genuine care. I was won over by the small town attentiveness, the smiling faces, and royalty treatment. Will recommend highly.

We have stayed here 5 times in the last 4 years. We love this place. Our favorite rooms are on top, with a balcony facing Throckmorton. Never had a problem with noise. We visited this time in February and it was cool in the evening and early morning. We really enjoyed the fireplace in the room. On arrival you receive a warm greeting, Robert assisted us in parking our larger car (this is the only drawback--parking can be tricky ), and a gift bag with snacks and a bottle of wine. The staff here all go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
The breakfasts are back! Just as great as before, with quiche, bagels and all the fixings, oatmeal, fresh and varied pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, nuts, fresh juices and two helpful employees ready to make any specialty coffee you might want. All included in the price of the room.
In late February, many locations were lax regarding covid protocols and the state and local guidelines were in flux. But everyone here was very careful, masked and we felt very comfortable.
You are close , within walking distance , to many great restaurants and hiking areas. They even have mountain bikes you can use! Mill Valley is just a great location and this Inn is one of our favorite places to spend time.

From room selections to the hiking trail suggestions, the staff at Mill Valley Inn was very, very patient with me. They emailed me 2 weeks before I arrive to ensure that the location of my room will be on 3rd floor facing the backyard (nice and quiet with a view just like I requested). They also notified me that the elevator will be out of service during my stay but they will be happy to assist with my luggage. What makes Mill Valley Inn stands out are these nice little things that they do for their customers. Thank you, Bryan, Stella, Lea for exceptional customer service, and all the kitchen and cleaning staff to make the stay extra comfortable.

We ended up at Mill Valley Inn on a whim after our wedding hotel In Napa was evacuated (and then subsequently burned) the day before our wedding! We were eloping which made things easier than if we’d had a huge group, but was still an incredibly sad and stressful occurrence. Mill Valley Inn ended up being the saving grace to our entire ordeal. They were so accommodating and kind to us, booked us a room on short notice and helped us find an alternate location for our Zoom ceremony less than 24 hours out (The deck of the penthouse in the Oak Creek Lodge which was absolutely lovely). We loved our room, the soaking tubs, the decks, the location right near everything in town, but most of all, the service! Thanks especially to Bryan for taking the time and making the extra effort to make our little wedding special. I’ll never forget it! We will definitely be back.

Charming upscale Boutique hotel right in the hear ot Mill Valley. Very nice on all levels. If you are seeking budget to mid range lodging this is not it. It is pricey. BUT ,that being said..The room (Room 1) was extremely comfortable. Large bathroom with seperate tub and shower. Nice robes and lots of ammeneties in the bathroom. LOTS of storage with a closet and plenty or drawers. Glassware instead of plastic. Refridgerator. Very nice huge comfy bed. Very lovely room on all levels. What I would like to have seen was an in- room safe and a proper latch on the door for security.
The Inn offers a lovely wine and cheese in the afternoons and a very nice Continental Breakfast in the morning. It is walking distance to all the charms of downtown Mill Valley. PLENTY of parking which was huge for us. All complimentary.
We were in town for my Daughter's Wedding and the hotel added to the charm of a wonderful occassion.

We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds. We had our teenage boys with us. The room was large with a huge walk in closet and large bathroom. It worked great for us. We used the walk in as a changing area. We were only there 2 days.
There are more places to choose from in the Mill Valley area.
