I stayed here while attending a wedding in Woodstock. The hotel is reasonably priced, clean, and walking distance to the center of Woodstock. The river view is a nice perk and they have a sizable lawn in the back where you can relax or picnic. Cons: The bed wasn't very comfortable, and they do not offer breakfast.

We stayed here on our way through Vermont and New Hampshire. It was a great little hotel. We stayed in the yellow building, in a corner room. The room was clean and well maintained. My wife loved the shower soaps! Seriously, who gets excited about bathroom soaps? Anyway, we also had a shared veranda and a couple of rocking chairs,...

On my visits to Woodstock I often stay at the Shire. You cannot beat the value and I have always had a pleasant experience. Sometimes I will afford a higher priiced venue in Woodsock, but The Shire is reasonably priced and it never disappoints. It is clean, clean, clean, and the staff is responsive to your needs.

Overall, this is a nice serviceable motel. The rooms are clean and quiet. The grounds are nice, with most rooms having a view of the river behind the hotel. Walking distance to downtown Woodstock, and one of the many covered bridges of Vermont.

I drove up to Woodstock, because it was a beautiful August. I didn't have a reservation and there was a large wedding in town; however, I was able to grab the last room in the inn and to my delight, could stay for two nights. It was a smallish room under the stairs; however, it was cozy and quiet (even...

The Shires Woodstock was a delightful place to stay right on the Ottauquechee River. Ken at the front desk was very friendly and extremely helpful. He provided us with brochures for a variety of things to do in the area which was so helpful because we were in town for only two days. The hotel is steps away from shops,...

My husband and I stayed one night at The Shire in early June. The following day I discovered I had lost a ring. I didn't know if I had lost it at The Shire or at the previous night's accommodations. That evening I received an e-mail from The Shire asking if I had left anything the room. After I told...

We were looking for a relatively inexpensive place in this part of Vermont to stay for a night with our two grown sons. This was an excellent choice. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Our windows opened above the river and we could hear the river all night. It doesn't have the rustic charm of some of the Vermont...

Second time staying here. Room was clean and comfortable if a little dated. Upstairs veranda with coffee is pleasant. Small refrigerator in the room is convenient. Was very quiet this trip. TV's have been replaced since our last stay. We love Woodstock and find this motel to be a good alternative to the more expensive B & B's in the...

Lovely hotel in the heart of Woodstock. While on the main road it is quite quiet. The view of river is lovely. They have chairs and picnic tables set up to enjoy the river. 24hr tea and coffee upstairs with view of the river is a plus
