Pros: Location to food and gas are close. Even though it is located near an airport, we did not hear airplanes. Rooms are quiet. Full kitchens and freezer with ice machine are helpful. Staff VERY nice and helpful
Cons: Did not have extra toilet tissue for the entire weekend, staff had to give out facial tissue. Back parking lot and sidewalks were an ice rink because the plows did not get all of the snow and the sun does not hit the back of the building (should be ok if there is not a storm prior or during your visit)

After a long drive we arrived after 7pm. This was a little out of our way, but while at a rest area in NC, this hotel was only one we could get 2 Queen beds. I prepaid and booked via one of my travel apps.
Good thing, as we arrived, another family was arguing that they made a reservation but they no longer had a room. I don't know full story, but the person at check in told me good thing I prepaid. The hotel seemed to be sold out as there was a party staying there and they were all heading out to some sort of event. The 3rd floor hallway smelled like cigarette smoke which I thought we were on a non-smoking floor. We were looking for a nice quiet sleep, but the folks staying on the 4th floor above us, had kids who were running around late. We turned the a/c on which made a steady noise to drown out the stomping of feet above. I got what I paid for--could have used a hot breakfast which was not offered, we hightailed it out after 6:30 am to continue our travels.

We arrived here at around 12:30 PM on a Sat., long before our reservation check-in. We were hopeful some rooms were clean because we needed to change clothes and had a 40 min drive to a 3 PM wedding. At first, the guy at the desk said no clean rooms were available so we went to lunch and returned, hoping something was ready. Again he told us nothing was ready but a lady standing nearby (presumably the manager) overheard the conversation and said she'd find something for us which she did - immediately. Her intervention was much appreciated. Our rooms were clean, towels were fluffy, hot water was immediate, and beds were comfy. If we had had a longer stay, we would have appreciated the stove, frig, dishwasher, etc. Two downsides - the walls apparently are thin and there was occasional nighttime noise and there was no business center available because of renovation.

We have had many great experiences with IHG hotels but this property was traumatic for all of us. First of all, the side entrance door was always propped open with a rock, allowing anyone to enter without a key card. We kept moving the rock and closing the door, and someone kept putting it back. Groups of drunk men were loitering by the door by the gazebo, and walking the hotel hallways. At night, while doing laundry, we observed people doing donuts in the parking lot and then entered the propped open door of the hotel, walking the halls, then exiting quickly. Very scary for a mother with small children! The laundry room door was always unlocked when we went to do laundry, and it was located next to this unsecured exterior door. When we booked our stay, we made sure we had a full kitchen. However our room had a large open space with no table or chairs. Our children had to eat on the carpet, balancing their plates on their laps. We started to report our concerns to the front desk but we overheard the clerk yelling at another guest saying "if anyone else reports their A/C has gone out just tell them to get a fan!" So we did not feel it was safe to ask for a table. We saw a room across from ours had a table and chairs, and the booking photo advertised that one should have been there in that open space. We stayed 3 nights and had no access to room service. I asked the front desk for an extra blanket, which they provided, however it was dirty with a blood stain on it. Thankfully there is a laundry area and I was able to wash it before giving it to my child. I cannot recommend this property to anyone and honestly it should not carry the IHG name. I do not enjoy giving it such a terrible review, but I want to honestly warn people, especially families with children.

I’m not sure how this place is so highly rated. We checked in late after a long day on the road. The night auditor was friendly, fast and efficient with our check in which I truly appreciated! I just wanted to get to the room and lay down. Which is why when we got to the room and there was no remote and the deadbolt wouldn’t lock I didn’t say anything we just got in bed and crashed. I’m the morning I went in search of coffee which was behind a key locked door in the lobby. There were several half cups of coffee colored water sitting on the counter and trash laying around. I tried to get a cup and figured out why people had just left their cups in frustration with a machine not working. I went to the desk and the woman standing behind the desk kept doing whatever she was doing and only acknowledged me after she was done. I mentioned needing a remote and that our deadbolt didn’t lock. She said both of those were maintenance issues and nothing she could help with but we’d probably have to change rooms. Then I was dismissed. Not a good look for your morning desk person. When we got back in the evening after a day of sightseeing there was a paper note taped to elevator saying out of order but it was operating. We came to the room and there was no remote and no working deadbolt, I needed another sheet so I headed downstairs. The woman working the desk Saturday evening was lovely, polite and helpful! She was unaware of my maintenance requests but went in search of a remote for me and found one. Granted she gave me one with no batteries and I didn’t realize until I was upstairs, but at least she tried to be helpful with a good attitude. Finally Monday morning my husband went downstairs to try to do a load of laundry at 7am to find all the machines taken by hotel linens. He stopped by the desk and he told me as she was still on the phone she told him it was the hotels laundry room and then went back to talking on the phone. The rooms and the property were clean, but this will be my first and last stay at a Candlewood suites.

Horrible experience!!! Hotel took a $250 cc deposit at check in and refuse to reissue it back on my cc because their front desk girl entered it incorrectly. After almost 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with the hotel (They DO NOT answer the phone when you call and often just hang up on you) ) I have reached out to IHG corporate who can't even get in touch with the hotel after multiple attempts. You would think at the corporate level that they could rectify the situation but they just give you the run around and say they will try to get in touch with the hotel and have no luck. Instead of issuing me the cc deposit back like they should have 3 weeks ago I am now told to dispute the charges with my cc company..RIDICULOUS! DO NOT stay at this hotel and if you do DO NOT use a cc for any transaction because their is apparently no training or management at this hotel. The manager avoids all calls from customers and corporate.

Despite the 4-5 star reviews, the Candlewood Suites at Richmond Airport are roach-infested filthy rooms! We checked in after sitting are the tarmac at LAX for four hours. Before paying for the room, we asked to see it. We walked in and turned on the light. Inside the door was a 1.5-inch long cockroach dead on its back, the room smelled of urine, and I couldn't even imagine what stuck to our shoes when we walked across the entrance. We immediately took photos of the aforementioned and went to the front desk to ask that our downpayment of $500.oo be refunded. "The manager is out of the country!" Kiss that $$$ goodbye. Thanks to American Express, the money was credited within two weeks.

Housekeeping never once came on the day they was scheduled, when the cleaning was complete only changed the Towels.
I stayed for 3 months and the billing was always early or they would skip a week and they would double up .It took several visits to the office and Emails to get the bill straight upon Checkout.

The first room I got was a suite it was nice but some inconsiderate person had smoked in the room. I went back to the front desk and complained about the smoke smell in the room. Then I was moved to a studio which was good to rest in for the night. I would have preferred the suite but they didn't have anymore oh well it is what it ended up being.

The hotel was ok. Folks at the front desk were nice along with maintenance guy. There was a mix up when checking in that sent me to 3 different rooms and took almost an hour to fix. Was put in a room next to the lobby and the elevator. Got no sleep for 2 nights. The AC in the room goes off by itself and the room gets hot during the night. There was plenty of hot water and water pressure which was nice. Parking lot is small and very tight. Loved to small kitchen and full sized fridge.

Not really, this is very close to the airport and depending where you want to go it may be difficult. You can get a cab rent a car. But while there is some local public transportation it is limited

The shuttle has a two mile radius and runs from 4 to 12 am and pm.. They will pick you up and drop you off at the airport between those times. Also there is a pretty big shopping center and also a good bit of restaurant within that 2 mile radius! Hope this helps!
