We stayed here for a weekend, and overall, the hotel was very nice, as well as a good location. The entire staff was so friendly! We were immediately greeted by the valet staff then the receptionist was so kind. The housekeeping staff always said hello and greeted you with a smile.
The interior of the hotel was beautiful - dark wood and moody lighting. The hotel rooms were a little dated, but the room was very spacious and loved the big windows. We did have a room on the front of the hotel that was directly across from a restaurant that played live music, Fri & Sat, until 2am. That was truly the only downside. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful experience! In the heart of a hip neighborhood with great restaurants, bars and even a cool looking club. We were greeted by our valet, Joshua, who went above and beyond to help us with all of our bags to our room and then park our car in a gated car park (so worth getting the valet parking). Joshua was a bright light in our day! Then Afreda at the front desk was so delightful and friendly, our check-in was a breeze. Our room was so nice….so much better than we had expected, since the price of the room was lower than any where else. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The beds were so comfortable…I slept throughout the night. We had a wonderful lunch at the in-house restaurant, Chefs Kitchen, where the head chef, Kaja Jagubar, greeted and waited on us and then went back and cooked our delicious meal. What a wonderful talent Kaja is and our meal was excellent, with mostly local and in house preparation. Starlett, at the front desk helped make our check-out a piece of cake. Oh, the cake was delicious too! What a joyful stay!

We enjoyed our weekend stay at the Berkeley. The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance to the Edgar Allen Poe museum, the canal walk, as well as many shops and restaurants. The room was very clean and comfortable. A continental breakfast was available, as well as coffee and ice water in the lobby. Scarlet at the front desk was very personable and helpful. Chris at the bell stand actually stopped traffic so I could back up to access the garage. I recommend this hotel and I would return.

Great location, all else very marginal. Bath towels need to be replaced (ones we had were old and flat with noticeable ragged threads on the sides). Room had one bar of soap (usually there is a bath bar and a hand soap bar) and the robe that is advertised offers one per room (we had another sent to us but, really, for 2 guests??). The "continental breakfast" was a joke (toast and mystery breakfast muffins without labels) and the first morning they ran out of everything by 9am (advertised until 10am, lame!). Asked for wine glasses at the desk and were given two plastic disposable ones (!?) Although the bar wasn't in working order we found two real wine glasses there and used them for our stay. This hotel has no amenities, would not recommend.

Our apologies on your experience Diane. As you can see from the other reviews, your experience was not the norm. As we do not yet have a restaurant or bar, for sanitization reasons the glasses provided are disposable wine glasses. However we do have traditional wine glasses if asked. Please note there was a time change Sunday morning. Breakfast was stocked and ran to 10am as usual. I do hope you give us another chance. If so, please contact me directly so I may ensure your next stay is perfect!

We stayed overnight at the Berkeley Hotel to take advantage of its location near the Tobacco Company. The foyer had a nice festive feel and check in was easy. The reason for 3 stars is value for price. The hotel is in need of updating and they offer no breakfast. Given the other options in the area we would probably stay elsewhere and pay same or a little bit more for a more modern space and breakfast offering.

The room was quite spacious though, so if thats very important to you it's worth considering.

When we went there 2 years ago at the height of Covid, guest services were nil. 2.5 years later, there’s still no housekeeping or room service. In the no-contact spirit, we leave bags of rubbish and dirty linens in the hall and are issued clean trash bags and fresh sheets by the door to remake our bed. The lobby offered sodas, potato chips and pretzels for sale, but when I asked for a bottle opener—‘no can, ma’am., you might want to try the restaurant nextdoot and see if they will open your bottle.’ The Shockoe Slip location can’t be beat, but there ‘s still no spirit of customer service long after the pandemic peaked.

I had the misfortune of staying at this hotel during a business trip. The management is nonexistent, the breakfast is a joke (if you are unlucky there is basically nothing)
If you read the cookie-cutter replies to reviews you will see that the management at this hotel could not care less. The front staff have a dreadful surly attitude and are totally unhelpful.
The staff seem to be untrained as they cannot seem to listen and keep chanting the same reply to important questions.
I could not get my invoice with my company name on it. Could not get it as a pdf. The manager never called or answered my email.

Thank you for your feedback Kenneth. It is a surprise to hear you feel this way about the staff after they went out of their way to accommodate your requests, even after the verbal abuse and name calling they experienced throughout your stay. There has been a transition in management so I do apologize about the delay on your invoice. I will get that to you promptly. We wish you all the best.

We would love to give this hotel a higher rating but unfortunately, we can’t.
Pros: 1. Yoshua greeted us and took our bags to our room and was our valet. He was fantastic and made sure we felt welcome and comfortable at the hotel.
2. Location. The location of the hotel is perfect. We were able to easily walk to the majority of the city sights and take in the downtown area and there were several good restaurants within walking distance.
Cons: 1. Front desk staff was rude and seemed bothered when asked a question about which direction a specific landmark was in. Front desk was not helpful at all.
2. There was zero communication from the front desk that there were no housekeeping services. Apparently we were not the only people who were not told about services since people were leaving early because of it.
3. Our room was worn and had seen better days. There was food ,or something , splashed in the inside of the lampshade which had been there awhile because it was growing mold. The toilet had a leak. The carpet needed to be stretched and we kept tripping on it .
We would have to say that for our next visit to Richmond we will stay elsewhere.

We apologize about your experience. While I am unaware of anyone leaving early due to not receiving housekeeping stayover service, we are truly sorry that was not communicated at check in. Trash retrieval and fresh linens were done upon request and that should of absolutely been communicated to you. Please contact me directly as I would like to learn more about the front desk agent you mentioned and how they were rude. This is completely out of the norm from how most guest feel so this is quite concerning. Our apologies again for your experience and I hope we can make it right.

Checked into the hotel after a very long and trying drive, and arrived worn out. The friendly and helpful welcome I got from the valet attendant and front desk clerk that night really helped smooth things out. In fact all the staff, including cleaning and maintenance personnel were extremely nice and helpful. Their continental breakfast was great, all the common areas were clean. Our room was clean and pleasantly furnished.
It's an older building, one thing I wish was different was the room air-conditioning. I have a family member who needs it colder and we couldn't adjust it to be as low as we'd like. Also the venting system was QUIET. If we stay there again I will bring a small personal fan, just for extra airflow and white noise.
However, just how wonderful the people were make me say that I would definitely stay there again when I come to the area. On my last night there, my car was overheating when I pulled up to the hotel curb. The clerk and valet asked what they could do, and helped me get some water to put in the radiator, so I could get it to a local garage. It was just a little thing to them probably but it really showed me kindness when I was in a jam. I wish I remembered their names to give them personal thanks but, really every employee I encountered there was pleasant, smiling, and professional. They made me feel valued and welcome. I hope they feel the same value from their workplace, they deserve it!

I enjoyed my first stay at the Berkeley. The location is quite convenient to the Supreme Court, the Capital, Shockoe Slip, and other downtown sites. I had a decent dinner in the Hotel restaurant when I arrived, and I walked to the Urban Farmhouse the following morning (two-minute walk). My room was perfectly adequate if a bit old-fashioned.
I do not think the Hotel has a gym, a mistake in this age. The valet service worked efficiently, and I especially wish to compliment the hustle and effort of valet Tyler.
I will return.
