Not for everyone! The shower is treehouse-like, manually operated (one has to fill up a bucket of hot water and empty it in the shower tank which will start running thanks to gravity...) and located outside (meaning you have to withstand the cold before and after your shower). I personnally love that kind of stuff, but some people don't, so...

Came to the Porsmork area for hiking. Read some review about the hostel and decided to give it a try. Excellent place with beautiful view to the glaciers and huge valley below. It is possible staging point for famous Laugavegur Iceland Trek. There is shower in the garden which is either the highlight of the stay (like the case for...

Had one of the best nights of sleep at Fljotsdalur during the two weeks that I was traveling through Iceland! The hostel is quaint and full of character: grass on the roof, garden surrounding the cottage, and sheep roaming around outside ready to say hi. We arrived a bit late in the evening (8pm), but still had a good two...

Dick, saw a report about Vatnajökull National Park on German TV, second programme. The report seemed to be made in 2015, 40 years after my 3rd and last stay in Your Fljotsdalur hostel. I will never forget this marvellous place where we recovered from a Torfajökull-tour. It almost took me off my heels to see You still active, and that to...

Fljotsdalur is rather off the beaten track, but that's just one of the things that makes it a great place to stay. All the rooms are dorm rooms, but if it isn't full up you can easily get a small (two bunk bed) dorm to yourself. It's more like a wooden cabin than a hostel, very warm, with extra blankets...

Another trip on a gravel road for about 25km brings you to this charming little hostel. We were told that we would have to sleep in a dorm with 13 beds - we were nicely surprised that after a recent renovation we were offered a private room with 4 beds as a family room. Still no privacy - the door...

I was actually sorting out old documents when I dug up some papers related to my 1984 trip to Iceland on a walking tour organised by Dick Philips. I just remember that it was a great trip and that at the end of our trek we arrived at this Fljotsdalur Hostel. It was just a small place with turf roof...

Have visited this amazing place a number of times over the years, and thought it deserved a review. Has been upgraded extensively, but still retains a 'rustic charm'. No need for a 4x4, as you can drive all but the last 50 meters. Amazing setting with good variety of short and long walks available, with stunning views of ice caps...

Driving down a gravelroad with only horses and grass you will find this amazing little place up a hill. There is only one farm nearby and the surrounding nature. We went there in winter and had the whole place to our selves. While they are still renovating the place it is already really charming. there is a kitchen stocked with...
