Stayed here with my family and had an excellent time. The rooms were well provided with all the amenities one would need, definitely worth having a look at the themed rooms- fantastic! The staff went out of their way to be helpful and knowledgeable and if the Northern Lights began to show a member of staff would alert everyone to...

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Ranga! The hotel employees were kind and courteous. The hotel offers Northern lights complimentary wake up call for sighting. They also gave us a complimentary postcard for them to mail anywhere in the world. 4 star dining experience with excellent service. The manager Ingi spoke to each guest at dinner making sure everyone...

The setting of this place is incredible! The staff is friendly and very attentive. Food is delicious and the amenities are great! We enjoyed the hot tub outside our room and also the star gazing house and the expert guy who educated us on the night sky

I usually travel solo. This hotel caters mainly to couples and families, and that can be an awkward experience for a solo traveler. Not so in this hotel! What a lovely staff! And what a lovely homely feel! I enjoyed my stay very much, and I got see some northern lights even if faint on the horizon. The restaurant is...

The Hotel Ranga was our second hotel stop in an organised New Year break. It is aprox 1 hour 40 minutes from the airport and is very secluded. We were. assured it was an ideal place for Aurora spotting (with an optional wake up call if the lights make an appearance) but sadly it was cloudy throughout our stay. The...

First, we didn't stay here. We heard that this place is good for Aurora Spotting. We only came here for that. Not to embarass ourselves, we decided to eat dinner there so we can walk in their property. Food was great, but fancy and pricey. We told them that we want to stay until we see the Northern Lights and...

Stayed at one of their suites, our Asian Japanese, quite nice!! Enjoyed the room and the design. Lovely staff, very helpful with planning our adventures, also the manager, thanks guys. Nice hotel, highly recommended. One potential improvement in hot food at breakfast, other than that full points.

A rustic log cabin design in the main building with loft bar upstairs. The rooms spread out on wings on either side. It's a bit odd having to tramp down such a long hallway if your room is all the way at the ends. Rooms are a bit small and pokey with substandard bathrooms that appear common in Iceland. The...

We stayed here for two nights at the end of Nov 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You would be hard pressed to find a friendlier staff and management team at any place of lodging in Iceland, and that's what keeps people coming back. This is a somewhat rustic hotel with full amenities on a lovely river, and in a...

This is a very pleasant place, but comparing like for like it is only average. We stayed in the upstairs new rooms, which are all themed (ours was Australia). This seems totally bizarre in Iceland and seem out of place. Should stick to Nordic/scandi. Location is great for sightseeing. Restaurant is fine but food never changes and breakfast is not...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
