No, this review will NOT be in German, but the proprietor, Hans Eckert, lends a wonderful Teutonic character to a stay in Kona! Both he and his wife, Marsha, were very accommodating during our stay. Apparently the 'rules' that several people referred to were due to unfamiliarities with the way things are done in Hawaii: we had no problems with... More

We had a marvelous time on the two nights we stayed at the Mango Sunset BnB Farms. It was a thrill, learning about Kona coffee so throrougly explained to us by gentleman farmer, Hans Eckert. He showed us the process of a 'perfect roast' and grounding via the burr. We enjoyed freshly brewed 100% Kona coffee each morning. It was... More

This BnB is unique in setting, style and atmosphere. The Hosts, Hans and Marsha, are very nice and offer lots of dining and touring suggestions. We watched Hans roast coffee shortly after our arrival. He has an immense knowledge of coffee growing and processing and and is enthusiastic about sharing it with his guests. We enjoyed the warm family setting... More

We stayed at the Mango Sunset B&B in May 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The views from the porch each morning whilst eating breakfast was superb. Hans & Marsha made us feel very welcome and were very informative about the island. The coffee tour which Hans gave us was an added bonus and very informative, plus we had... More

The Mango Sunset B&B is located about 2,000 feet above the town of Kailua-Kona, making it a quiet respite from the touristy crowd downtown. My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant, relaxing stay there. The inn is relatively new, and the amenities are modern, convenient, and clean. The view from all three of the rooms-- which have sliding doors... More

To enjoy your stay here, you must be able to appreciate Hans for who he is. He is very much like some other German innkeepers with whom we have stayed and your initial impression will likely be that he is overbearing and obsessively rule based. While this approach to life can be abrasive, it can also be very productive. I... More

I am always sorry when I encounter prejudice, and some people have more prejudice than others. This guest had apparently a staunch opinion of "German innkeepers with whom we have stayed". We inform our guests upon arrival, during a 5 minute orientation, on how to make the most of their stay. Nearly all of our guests very much appreciate this... More

Hans and Marsha were very welcoming as others have said, but also had a lot of rules to follow. The property is newly built and will eventually be solely used for b&b once the family house is built. Whilst modern and nicely decorated the walls are so thin that you can hear every word of the conversation in the next... More

On rare occasions, we meet people who are hyper-sensitive in many different ways, and whatever we do, we won't be able to please them . Our walls are certainly not "paper thin". They are not only of standard new house construction, but ALL of our walls, even between rooms, and the ceiling, are especially insulated for sound. That someone can... More

Sherri and I wanted more than a resort vacation. We wanted to experience and be a part of the local culture and family of the island, "an adventure". Hans and Marsha for 10 days made us part of their family. We had a great room with an incredible view, great food, -- and yes the best coffee on the planet.... More

This is not a bad place to stay and we had no problems here at all. It is however not your typical B&B with a nice dining room and wonderful food. The food is average, coffee amazing, rooms are rather small and the private bathroom isn't actually in the room itself. There are also a number of rules to be... More

Gosh, you reserved the one room we had (the cheapest one) that has its bath in the hallway. All others have in-suite baths. You made that choice. You wanted to pay less, you got a little less. The bath is not shared, just not in-suite. We have the lowest pricing of any BnB on the West side. You want more,... More

We stayed two nights at Mango Sunset Bed and Breakfast. We had the cozy room with the private bath adjacent. Everything was clean and comfortable. Our hostess made us welcome and offered helpful suggestions for finding our way around the area. We especially enjoyed the breakfast of home-grown fruits with crepes, and coffee grown on site.
