The units in this complex are called Castle Kona Bali Kai. Most of the units have direct ocean views, so we were quite intrigued. We booked Unit 415 because the views looked absolutely beautiful. This unit is individually owned by a husband and wife team,...More
First timers in Hawaii and we loved the island but our hotel stay was a disaster. Customer service was very unprofessional

Booked a nice family trip staying at Castle Kona Bali. Well what a shock I felt we were being punked on a tv show...pictures tell a thousand words. I will let them speak for itself. First is the offer the second and rest are reality....be...More
I have read many reviews about Kona Bali Kai. Seems like many travel agents and vacationers are not aware that this is not a hotel. They are condos rented by owner, VRBO or Castle management. I rent directly from the owner and avoid all the...More
The only saving grace for this condo complex is if you happen to get a condo with a view of the ocean. Ours, 216 had old dirty green carpet, a few of the table lamps did not work. The floor fans did not work. The...More

I think they have a cleaning fee schedule on their website. It depends on the size of the unit and the length of stay. But yes, believe what the hotel quotes you. I stay for 2 nights in a studio so my cleaning fee was $40... More

The Kona Bali Kai is a 55 year old building (how else could we build this close to the ocean?) and with the salt water influence, more maintenance is always required. In fact we call the ocean front building a "ship that never sails". Without maintenance, guests would complain about condition as well. I would like to point out that only a few have complained about construction noise, but often those are the most vocal. Many people have left wonderful reviews.
Having stated that, owners do try to advise of construction and have new policies in place to notify neighbors. The truth is that construction schedules can change on a dime.
There are several alternatives. You may rent a hotel room at an oceanfront resort. They will charge more but will have options to move you. You may rent from Castle Resorts at the Kona Bali Kai. The charge is not quite as high but they may be able to move you to another area. Castle Resorts has a pool of rooms. If you are renting from a private owner, they usually only have one condo to rent so may not be able to move you. Check the policy set by the owner or Castle Resorts, in the event construction starts up near you.
Noisy construction has limited hours on weekdays and weekends and often visitors are out and about enjoying the island.
I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.
