Beautiful location overlooking the ocean with an outdoor bar for dining and nice swimming pool. Don't miss the lagoon with sand beach which is tucked away at the side of the property. That was the only beach. Most of the coast on the Big Island is black lava rocks, so you went to sleep with the sound of crashing waves....

I didn't expect to be wowed by the Royal Kona Resort, and I wasn't. However it was much better than I expected. The room was very dated, but more importantly very clean and comfortable. The only two complaints I have would be the balcony doors are not very soundproof and I like a proper glass rather than a plastic cup...

As many people have written, this hotel is a somewhat outdated in appearance as well as furniture. The room was spacious, and a couple of bar stools would have been nice to fill up the space that would have been a second bed if the room had queens. We had a king, which is what we asked for. The drawers...

We had the best time here The location was walking distance to shops restaurants and night life. The private lagoon was crystal clear water. We snorkeled suntanned and enjoyed watching the waves crash against the lava wreath. The pool was small but I never saw more than 4 people in it at anytime. The water was warm. The pool was...

This place was fantastic. Partial ocean view, waves from our balcony. Great bar right on the ocean. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Also convenient to reach other activities with a car. On street parking worked fine. Private lagoon had lots of fish. If you want sterile stay somewhere far away from the action. Would definitely go back.

This hotel has a great location. It also has a great bar and outside area. However the rooms are Extremely outdated. Ripped carpet, smelly, just old rooms. Buffet breakfast is subpar at best. The pancakes were ice cold and the hash browns were hardly cooked. My biggest issue is upon checking in the hotel neglected to tell us that their...

This hotel is used by Diamond Resorts but not owned by them "yet". Its a typical hotel, not the class of a timeshare resort, especially for a Hawaii location. 3 buildings. Standard no-frills, king bed hotel room with a table and 2 chairs, a dresser with large screen TV, small kitchenette area with sink and mini fridge. I requested a...

The Royal Kona is a nice place suffering from a personality disorder. It can't decide what it wants to be. Old and outdated or old and outdated. Despite that I gave the hotel a "very good" rating. I had a partial ocean view room which was amazing to wake up and see the waves crashing against the lava - nothing...

This place is old, looks old and feels old. Price for what you are getting is ridiculous, $160/night PLUS $10/day for parking AND $10/day for WiFi. (excluding TAX....) Place is in need of renovation, anywhere else and it would be out of business by now. Unfriendly staff... Dated room feels like an apartment that was converted to be part of...

I'd read previous reviews about the Royal Kona Resort, so I knew it was a bit outdated, which doesn't bother me. I was just hoping the hotel made up for it in other ways, ie hospitality, cleanliness, etc. I was sad that it didn't. It was obvious that the Royal Kona Resort had seen it's heyday 40-50 years ago. Make...
