Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an amazing time at this resort! We saw whales from our balcony every morning!! I felt like I was in a movie honestly! The service is unmatched as well, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we felt so valued.

In the past there was clear separation between FSH and the pack of competitors when it came to price/value proposition. We've seen that shrink since pre-Covid. Prices have increased significantly while service has lagged back to the pack.

This resort is absolutely amazing and everything we hoped it would be. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by an amazing host to the moment we left we received 5 star service. Our room was fabulous, with the most comfortable bed! The restaurants are wonderful, great food and fantastic service. There are pools for everyone, quiet, adults only and kids and are immaculate with fantastic poolside service. I used the spa and had the most wonderful massage in an outdoor tiki hut, which was as special as it sounds. Yes it’s pricey, but you get what you pay. It was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

Unfortunately our visit to this FS was subpar. We had solid plans that were confirmed a few weeks/months in advance. Our room was available hours in advance upon check in, which was appreciated. We were paying over $10,000 a night. From there, things went downhill. I won't mention every little detail, but housekeeping was missed twice in one day, despite scheduling through our concierge. Catering and transportation not arranged for a 5:30 am fishing trip when my husband showed up for his trip-confirmed though the hotel. The assistant manager was kind enough to open the commissary so he was not without food for 6 hours, but a hassle nonetheless. I had an unfortunate conversation with a man, Gary, in the spa who was really rude when I asked for a sunscreen sample. He refused, even though I had 3 treatments booked at the spa during my time there, including a facial. The restaurant's buffet can be covered in birds on your food I would suggest a la carte and insist os the freshest fruit, arugula etc. Min came wilted and brown until I complained. Beautiful grounds and property however:) We had a fabulous trip with the hotel's catamaran, and we so enjoyed the night time manta ray trip that they arranged.

Room Tip: Make reservations where the live music is each night! Do not do the buffet-birds all over the food!

Everything about this place is incredible! My daughter loves the kids for all seasons, the rooms are comfortable and beautiful, the food is excellent, the pools are great, you just can’t go wrong. The extras are amazing too! We had family photos taken with Coral studios, and our photographer was AMAZING! They might be the best photos or family has ever had taken. The cultural center is so much fun and informative; we got to create and make our own Lei’s. We also got to watch both orcas and humpbacks swimming, jumping/breaching, tail flipping, and fin smacking/splashing all from the resorts beach! We came back after an amazing experience 18 months ago, and we’ll be back again after this one as it was even better. If you’re considering coming here, do it. You won’t regret it.

I’ll be honest about my review and explain why I gave this resort 2 stars. I stayed in January and February of 2024. I tried to come back and relive this usually once in a lifetime experience for the average folks who work a bunch of hours in a hospital. 1. Check in the room wasn’t prepared on time. 2. Room wasn’t what was shown online for the suggested view and rates can’t select between an outdoor shower room vs a top level floor. 3. Reservations are required for every single restaurant even when they have a total of 35 open tables at 5:00pm and 5:30pm. 4. They cater to the golf community a lot more over the family style vacationing with table reservations and room selections. 5. Constant overcrowding of pools with loud noises. 6. Staff seems unappreciative of visiting guests and seems to show a lack of smiles and greeting. 7. It’s a high end resort so these types of things should be minimal at best and I would advise the Kona resort- Rosewood property next door for tremendously making sure you’re happy with your trip to Hawaii. 8. The hotel doesn’t live up to the Four seasons name the laundry rooms were filthy with bugs and maggots outside of the trash areas. Did I try to come back and once again enjoy my trip and spend a ton of $$$…. Yes but I will no longer chose this Four Seasons hotel knowing other resorts in Kona are top notch and have better quality and better service.

All of the pools are too cold to swim in. This place is great but they are not heating the pools up enough. You’d think they’d figure that out when the pools are empty and hot tubs are full. Rooms Great, Service is great but pools are too cold. Would be an easy fix.

The entire team at FS Hualalai made for an INCREDIBLE honeymoon and stay. I cannot say enough great things about how well my wife and I were treated throughout our entire stay and how accommodating and caring the staff was. A special thanks to the staff at the Palm Grove Pool who made my wife and I feel so special every day (and for the killer chocolate oreo shakes!!) - Noah was only at the pool on Sunday but he was so sweet and helpful and went out of his way to make sure my wife and I had all our needs met. The food was also insanely good - my wife is a self-proclaimed picky eater yet she loved all four restaurants at the resort (including the room service and Palm Grove pool menu) - our favorite was Ulu and their short rib/ Korean fried chicken. The water sports staff was also very sweet - I feel bad since I was seasick for the scooter and canoe and had to cut both short - but they were so sweet and helpful the entire time and made my wife and I feel very safe (especially Casey). Paula from the Hualalai Spa shop was also incredible and went out of her way to help me find the amazing sunshirts sold at the resort - and buy some extras for my parents. The whole vacation went by so quickly that my wife and I both burst into tears having to say goodbye to this once-in-a-lifetime incredible experience.
