We planned our trip too late to get reservations for the annual buffalo round-up, so were here 4 nights earlier in the week. It was a great base camp for exploring the Black Hills area. From here it was easy day trips to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, and even out to Devils Tower in Wyoming....

The Game Lodge Campground is a must if you plan to stay in Custer State Park. We saw so many deer and bison and even a herd of 90 elk just minutes away from the campground. The park itself is very clean, and the restroom facilities were great! Lot spacing was very roomy, with mostly shade on our site. We...

September 30th, 2016. We planned our summer's travels around this date. We joined dear friends at Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was the 51st Buffalo Roundup. Drovers on horseback and pickup trucks moved a herd of 1300 very large bison off of 80,000 acres of prairie and ponderosa pine and into a large system...

I stayed here four nights recently, and quite enjoyed the campground. It is well situated so you're not too far from Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, hiking, or the buffalo roundup. The facilities were well maintained and very clean. The only negative comment I have about the campground is a general lack of privacy between sites. There are no shrubs or...

Our family comes every year. Game lodge campground is our favorite, with the playground, the theater with nightly activities, close to the visitor center and wild life loop! Blue Bell was nice and quiet, and so convenient with a store, gas and laundry right near by. Game lodge is more fun for families.

We spent 3 nights at the Blue Bell Campground in Custer State Park. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. The bathroom and showers were the cleanest I have ever seen in a state or national park campground. Our site was fairly easy to back into (my husband might beg to differ) and was far enough from near-by sites to...

Custer State Park Campgrounds once again provide proof positive that state park campgrounds are your best option when travelling. First, they can be reserved unlike many national park campgrounds. And reserve early you must! These campgrounds fill up months in advance! Second, they are surround by some of the most amazing scenery. Custer State Park could be a National Park...

Pretty campground, but certainly not worth the $20 park entrance fee and additional $28 for an electric only campsite. SD park system reservation system is very annoying. Very nice workers trying to deal with a puzzling system for sure.

We had a three-day advance reservation at Sylvan Lake and we also stayed one night at the State Game Lodge campground, arriving mid-week without a reservation. We found a nice tent site creekside and then called the 800 number to see if it or adjacent sites were available for that night. I think this is a weird system but that...

Stayed at Blue Bell Campground: this place has everything - from excellent clean camp bathrooms/showers to huge sites where you don't feel that you are camping with your neighbor. The camp hosts were a blast and so fun to be around. However - be warned - the bison do come into the campground and NO, you cannot outrun a 1500...
