The Blue Bell Lodge is in a great location within Custer State Park. We visited in early May when they had just opened for the season and with very few tourists it was fantastic! Lovely drive near the wilderness loop, close to Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore and other nearby sites. The rustic cabins are in a sweet private cove-like area...

Thank you very much for your review. I am surprised to hear that your experience with the front desk staff was not pleasant. We have had many compliments on the service and it is not our policy to make a guest go into the rain for vehicle information. I apologize for that and have had training with my front desk...

We loved Blue Bell Lodge. It is right in the middle of everywhere we wanted to be and out of the way at the same time. Cabins are all secluded and private. Ours had a working fireplace, kitchen, big bathroom, table, tv and nice beds. It is right in the heart of Custer State Park and near the wilderness loop....

Custer State Park is in my opinion, one of the nicest places to stay in South Dakota. We visited in early May and there were hardly any other tourists around, this place seems largely undiscovered, or maybe just quiet at that time of year - whatever it was, it was good for us! We travelled on to Yellowstone after our...

Thank you very much for your nice review. Blue Bell's sleeping cabins are among the nicest in the park. More and more people are coming in what we call the shoulder season, Early May and after labor day. It is a great time to come if you are trying to avoid the high tourist traffic of the summer months. Thank...

We stayed in housekeeping cabin #3 and found it to be quaint & adequate. The cabin was equipped with everything we needed, surprisingly even a TV and had its own picnic table & fire pit. The only drawback was a hard mattress and #3 is the closest cabin to the employee housing right next door. The first night we heard...

Thank you so much for your review. Yes, our employees do live close to a couple of the cabins but we keep strict policies in place to ensure those few guests are minimally affected. The style of cabins you stayed in have history and rustic charm. They were built by the CCC when they were constructing the roads and lodges...

We just happened to see the lodge while driving through Custer State Park. The service was excellent and the food was very good. You will be in heaven if you like buffalo. It is fixed in many different dishes here. We plan to visit here again next summer.

If you are looking for a cozy cabin in the woods experience, Blue Bell Lodge is a good option. Cabins are small log cabins with a wood burning fireplace, mini kitchen, front porch and outdoor fire pit. We found ours to be clean and in good order. A short walk to the main lodge, you will find an authentic, yet...

Thank you for your great review. The time you visited was just before our regular season. More and more people are discovering that it is a great time to visit the park. I am glad that you enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We will be keeping some cabins open again this year so hopefully we will see you again at...

I almost hesitate to write a review to tell how great the winter wildlife special is at Blue Bell Lodge! We had the place to ourselves and if word gets out what a great deal this is, it might not always be so! We have stayed here before but never in winter, so it's always great to come back to...

loved the grounds, the smells and the sights of this place. The food was great at the lodge. Not too far from a lake for water play. This is a great little gem that is not a pretentious resort, but is a great retreat.

We were wandering around the park, taking side roads, when we happened upon a campgrounds that specialized in horses. We called it the horse camp. Then we came upon the lodge restaurant and stopped to eat. We were so pleasantly surprised. The lodge was located in the middle of the woods. The restaurant was decorated just like a lodge with...

Custer State Park is really beautiful and the environment was really amazing; in fact, a huge bison was hanging around not 100 feet outside our cabin! The check-in staff was really friendly and accommodating and told us about the Chuck Wagon cook out scheduled for that evening, which sounded like fun, so we signed up. Our traveling companions--in an RV--were...

  • lots of mold around the tub and in the grout.
  • Even the phone was sticky and dirty. A little 409 and a sponge would go a long way here.
  • The kitchen was lacking a LOT of basics but we were ready for pancakes!
