The rooms are small, the curtains do not block light at all. There is not a single towel bar in the bathroom, the lighting sucks, the room was clean but had an overwhelming smell of bleach when I opened the door. There is a huge armoire to be used as a closet, but no clothing rod, just very small hooks...

Janice, Thanks for writing. It sounds as though you chose the least expensive room (thus smallest) and were probably in a room that hasn't been renovated yet. Give us time and all will be made beautiful. Reading the many reviews here should give some idea of what to expect.

The room was very clean, it was very comfortable, but the quiet time in the courtyard is ridiculous. People wake up at 6 AM and go in the courtyard drink their coffee and scream across the courtyard to one another waking up everyone in the complex. If you bulkier get a room in the back!

Meltt0, Good of you to write. Thank you. We are a small establishment and the guests are very friendly with one another, many being repeat guests, so they do tend to have their routines. It is not always so though. Again, thanks for writing.

The Frenchman is in a prime location to listen to music, away from the drunkards on Bourbon Street. Short walk to French market from here, as well as Cafe du Monde. The hotel was clean and quiet, with a great little pool and hot tub. The staff were superlative: kind and friendly and helpful. There was prosecco flowing at noon...

beebee01, Thank you so much for writing. We do appreciate it. We do love our location and try to keep this old girl in the manner in which she should. It was lovely of you to speak so highly of the staff and they will appreciate it.

Very nice boutique hotel though tough to sleep on weekends The staff was very helpful and having a continental breakfast was very nice. The courtyard is also pleasant. Easy access t Frenchmen street and all of the art and music. One hundred yards from French quarter and seems to be a fairly safe area.

Mike and Lori, Good of you to have taken the time to write. One of the prices to be paid for staying in the heart of the music district is the music, but it is also the pay off. 100 yard is a bit of a stretch though as the French Quarter is just across Esplanade; 100 feet maybe. So...

Service staff was really great; the immediate area across the street was a bit sleazy (hookers and drugs) but really close to the areas jazz clubs. Not the place to find places open for breakfast although a continental breakfast is offered at the hotel itself.

Scott, Thanks for writing. We appreciate it. The staff could have suggested any number of places for breakfast within walking distance of the hotel. When you come in next just ask at the front desk. Hope to see you again soon.

What a great experience. Live music, food, and bars just outside the front door. This is funky and fun place to stay. If you like corporate predictable hotels . . . don't stay here. The building is old/quirky but well maintained and renovated.

Great location. Great music venues and good restaurants only 2 steps away. Best record store in New Orleans is just next door. Staff was very nice. In the heart of the Frenchmen Street jazz experience. Beautiful courtyard. Although breakfast was adequate but nothing special. Also, would like to have a coffee pot in the room.

In 1985 my wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed this funky, affordable little place -- enough so that we just returned to celebrate our 30th anniversary. While the Frenchmen is essentially the same (a good thing), the neighborhood couldn't be more different. What had been a relatively quiet area on the fringes of the French...

This was our 2nd visit to The Frenchmen Hotel and area. It is a great spot to get to all things NOLA. The rooms are clean and have character. The rooftop is a great place to enjoy all the sounds of the neighborhood.

Anthony, Thanks so much for writing. We are so happy to hear that you like our place. Parking a big truck in a centuries old carriageway isn't the easiest thing in the world. Glad to hear that you found the lots behind the hotel. Do come again.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

“I was warned to request a room NOT facing Frenchmen. I did not listen. It is very noisy but the sleeping pills fixed that. There are two suites in this hotel; one in our party had one suite and it was nice but too big for just the two of us who stayed in a room with two double beds. The suite had two balconys (one for each bedroom) facing Frenchmen and it was a treat to sit on the balcony.”
