We have mixed feeling about the Soniat. This was our first stay, although we have been frequent visitors to New Orleans. This was a splurge. We had a junior suite at $450 a night. It was just rehabbed and was modern and sharp. After a couple nights, due to an inconsequential problem, they upgraded us at no charge to a... More

Our dream is that all of the visitors to the Soniat House feel that they are guests in a private home and not in a hotel. We have attempted to furnish our rooms and suites as we would guest rooms in our home. Most of our reviewers understand and feel that we have succeeded. When we opened in 1984 we... More

We have just returned from five of the most majestic nights in one of the Soniat suites. The stay was quite the most unique experience of any hotel in which we have stayed. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The room was quiet yet the hotel is well placed with only a short walk to Bourbon... More

I am so sorry that Scotland is so far away from New Orleans so that we probably won't have too many opportunities to welcome you back to Soniat House. Please try to drop down for a visit whenever you visit the USA. Thank you for your kind words. More

The Soniat in Chartres Street is everyone's dream of the ideal New Orleans French Quarter hotel. Away from the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, it is an oasis of charm, tranquility and Southern hospitality. Beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast in the courtyard, and exceptional assistance from all the staff, especially Paul, Edina and Erwin in Reception, who couldn't have done... More

The truth about the Soniat House? I do not want to share it! Maybe with my husband sometimes or a friend I will visit the Soniat House. Renting out the whole hotel with all your closest friends would be wonderful! But mostly, I like to visit alone. It is totally healing, an indescribable comfort for me. It is a time... More

Please don't ever move to New Orleans. We would so miss having you as our guest. We all look forward to your visits and it is not just because of the delicious chocolates that you bring to us. It is because you are such a delight. You have become part of the Soniat House family. Hurry back! More

Quite simply, my first stay at the Soniat House was like a dream. If you've ever fantasized about living in an historic townhouse in the Quarter, this is the place! It far exceeded my expectations. My room was beautiful, exquisitely tastefully decorated and so soothing and restful that I hated to leave. On top of that, the level of respectful,... More

I returned to the Soniat recently. I hadn't been there in months. Over the past two decades I've stayed there at least 25 times, probably more. It's always been like staying with friends -- friends with spectacularly good taste. The staff, as ever, was impeccable, the essence of Southern hospitality. A pleasant surprise this time -- the rooms have been... More

I found about this place through Internet and I must say that it did meet my expectations. If you are looking for authenticity and charm, you most probably will not be disappointed either. The building itself is beautiful and extremely well located - everything within the French Quarter can easily be reached on foot from there. My room had great,... More

How did I miss this wonderful review? So kind of you to write. I can't help but wonder why you couldn't have breakfast on the patio during your visit. I hope that you didn't experience 3 days of rain and I can't imagine that it could have been too cold in September. Thank you for your kind words. More

I have stayed at The Soniat House during the past eight years, usually once or twice a year. When I want friends to know the authentic, old-world charm of New Orleans, I insist they stay at The Soniat House. The owners are beacons of light in the city for their unerring taste, warm, caring hospitality and for the enchanting experience... More

We just came back from a 3 night stay in one of the suites. The hotel was in a great location, and it was quiet & authentic. It was our first time at this hotel. Stayed at the Soniat House years ago many times- a wonderful place - the real New Orleans. Leave the chain hotels for the mass market. Do not understand the negative comments - must have stayed at a different property.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
