This place at the end of the winding road has only 4 rooms, making the experience qiute intimate and cozy. The very proffesional and pleasant staff waits at the arrival, serves a pot of their own tea-blend, and gives you the tour of the property. The room had a very good size and was nicely furnished, complete with a necessary...

We booked Ferncliff for a one night stay in Nuwara Eliya. The owner is a very kind man called Marlon and he was very accommodating when we arrived, especially as it was the one rainy day we had in the entire two weeks! We had some welcome tea and cake and he is very proud of the bungalow - pointing...

Dear Zahra, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. Honest feedback always keeps us on our toes and helps us maintain standards. We would like to apologise about the mix-up with regard to the diet. The fact that we received no prior dietary request, does not excuse how we handled your breakfast. So thank you for...

We arrived on a wet August day to this gorgeous property. We were welcomed by tea and cake and a warm smile. We spent an afternoon playing board games before a fabulous dinner, wine, hot water bottles and bed. The next day was an early start to worlds end with packed breakfast. Awesome day made good by great pack-up. Another...

Very large room in an old house. Modern bathroom. Nice garden. The house is old so we could hear a bit of noise from the other room. However it did not disturb us. No noise from the city, just the birds from the garden, lovely! Service very attentive and friendly. Had dinner and breakfast there, very very nice, delicious! But...

Dear Vincent, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. Thank you, in particular, for the feedback on the cold meals that were served to you. We've discussed this as a team and have sought to ensure this does not happen in the future i.e. maintain the standards we've set for pre-warmed plates and piping hot food....

We stayed at Ferncliff during our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. The estate is a charming, four-room colonial bungalow with a lovely garden. Upon arrival we were treated to hot tea and cakes, which were most welcome after a long evening of travel. The staff was courteous and the manager, Mr. Marlon, was helpful with suggesting and organizing activities...

I have all good things to say about this Heritage Property maintained from 1831(except for one that I will mention in the end). This place was little difficult to find for us may be because our driver was not familiar with the town and this property is not around the famous lake in Nuwara eliya. We arrived at around 3...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ferncliff perched on one of the highest points of Nuwara Eliya commands a view like no other of 'Little England'. This includes being set against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Pedro (Pidurutalagala), which at 2524 m (8,281 ft) is Sri Lanka's highest point. Just ten minutes walk from the Grand Hotel and the Golf Club, Ferncliff is uniquely placed to be the centre of your Nuwara Eliya universe which includes Horton Plains National Park, Tea Plantations and other locations of interest in the hill country. Deeds for the Ferncliff lands predate the founding of the first Nuwara Eliya settlement by Great White Hunter and Explorer, Sir Samuel Baker in 1846. The bungalow, now a heritage site, had its beginnings in the 1850s and the ghosts of Samuel Baker and his ilk still walk our expansive lawns hunting elephants, deer and wild boar to near extinction in the lush Nuwara Eliya valley. Today, with restorations that have retained its rustic charm, Ferncliff offers comforts that few bungalows in town can aspire to, and our team led by our chef with over 30 years of experience in the hotel trade, will ensure that your time with us will be comfortable and relaxed. Rest assured that although Ferncliff is centrally located, once inside her gates the hustle and bustle of the town is forgotten. Enjoy a game of croquet, a round of boules, or just wander around our extensive grounds which include a young rose garden and very soon, orange and pear orchards. Look no further for what promises to be a truly authentic Nuwara Eliya experience. Kindly note that, accommodation for drivers and guides are not available in the premises. ... more   less
