I cannot recommend Alila Ubud highly enough. Everything from the wonderful staff, the beautiful resort grounds to the chef preparing the most amazing meals made my stay super special. My only regret is that I changed hotels. I will most definitely be back. I miss the tranquility already.

Hotel's Favourite
From arrival to departure the Alila Ubud exceeded our expectations. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Restaurants delivered delicious quality food, with an alternative breakfast menu daily. The hotel is located in peaceful surroundings away from the the bustling centre of Ubud. The complimentary shuttle bus was great for trips into the city for shopping and access to attractions. We would return to the Alila Ubud without any hesitation. A beautiful hotel with warm and friendly staff, in a location that is very special. Loved watching the macaques in their natural surroundings making appearances in the evenings so close to our room. We made some fantastic memories at the Alila Ubud. This is a must place to stay!

Response from Bagus Jelantik, General Manager at Alila Ubud
Responded 15 June 2023
Dear barratts5, We're absolutely thrilled to hear that our food and beverages made such a lasting impression on your stay! Our culinary team truly puts their heart and soul into creating fresh, farm-to-table dishes that are enjoyed by all of our guests. It's fantastic to know that you appreciated our daily changing breakfast concept too. We're glad you enjoyed the resort's setting and the wildlife it offers, including the lively macaques. They certainly add a unique touch to the experience, especially when they return from their food-seeking adventures. It's always a joy to witness. Thank you so much for recommending our resort to your family and friends. We greatly appreciate your kind words and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Sincerely, Bagus

This is probably going to be a long review because I want to ensure I give it the time and attention it deserves. When the driver alerted me to the fact we had arrived at Alila, it took a short drive through the rice fields and banana trees before I had the opportunity to see the hotel. When I got to reception, I thought "where are the rooms?" That is because Alila is far from your normal average hotel setup. The design is beautiful, unique and authentic. One of the things that hit me immediately as I waited at reception was the sense of peace and calm I felt. There was no music, only the sound of nature and the surrounding jungle. The Welcome: I was given a welcome drink (Jamu, which is absolutely delicious, and I will be making at home) and a refreshing hand towel - see photo. Before going to my room, everything was explained clearly, and I was given a mini-information pamphlet with key information. My Room: The walk to my room was a bit of a workout (in a good way)! In terms of design, it's like homes next to each other. No swipe card, just a proper front door key that auto locks when the door is closed. My room was super comfortable and my bathroom... just WOW! I had a big bath and shower outside with gorgeous wooden blinds I would unroll at night - see photo. I am one of those people that would never use the bath in a hotel, but I loved using my one! You get a bubble bath to use and it was so nice to relax and chill in the bath and then take a shower. I had to touch on the products (body gel, hand soap, lotion etc.) as I really did not need to bring body wash and normal lotion to use before bed with me. Beautiful smelling products that actually felt amazing on my skin. Truly moisturising and non-drying, so if you are a fan of lemongrass (not overpowering) save yourself some space in your suitcase and just bring sunscreen cream. My room was cleaned every single day and there was one evening I came back to the hotel, and it touched my heart that the team had rolled down all the blinds for me. The team came round in the evening too to check if anything was needed - they would knock and when I was not there they would check in my absence. For example, providing additional towels. My room was directly opposite the jungle, so when it got super dark, a member of the team would walk me to my room, as it felt scary to me simply because I wasn't used to it. You may see monkeys outside your room during the day and at night big gecko's so be sure to keep your doors and windows closed. Breakfast and Dinner: OMG... the food and drinks were absolutely delicious!! Everything was super fresh and not made for the masses. From fresh juices, baskets with baked goods and made to order breakfast meals, the experience was top-notch (views included). The dinner menu was spot on for me and everything I ate was tasty, well seasoned and authentic. I appreciated the ambiance at night and the darkness of the jungle. The Spa: I had the following treatments with Suka (team - please correct me if I have misspelled her name), and she made me feel comfortable and at peace. Gentle Purification Facial Balinese Avocado Hair Crème Bath Beauty and Balance - massage, body scrub and body mask. My skin was glowing and felt so darn soft!! Best scrub EVER. Suka is a true PRO and provides all treatments with the upmost care and attention to detail. I had a pain in the top of my foot from dropping a weight on it around 4 weeks before and after the massaging of my feet the pain was good. I had a change of nail colour for both my hands and feet. In terms of improvement there needs to be: Proper lighting to support with application of nail polish and outside treatments as a whole A more diverse range of colours to choose from as it was limited Proper dryers that can be used for hands and feet General: The pool and lounge area is a wonderful experience and great for getting a tan! Plus, you can get tea, drinks, snacks and small plates from the Cabana. Gym is good for keeping up with your workouts if you are a gym bunny like me. Also, there are bikes you can access for free, and I would ride around the grounds to get additional workouts, which was a brilliant experience! I felt completely safe, and I did not feel like I needed to lock all of my things up in my room. Wellbeing and hygiene - absolutely everything was super-duper clean. Customer service is incredible. Every single person I came into contact with was so warm, kind and friendly and always wanted to ensure I had everything I needed. Widi, Nila and Mr Teguh were individuals I came into contact with often and I adore them!! So grateful for the interactions we had. I also have to give a shoutout to Chrisnayanth, Nova and Agung. Thank you so much for helping me with changing my booking, so I could spend 6 nights as Alila instead of 3. Soo happy I made the decision to do so! My experience of Bali was a transformative one that has left a mark on my heart and staying at Alila contributed to that massively. The best way I can describe it is that my soul was at home in Alila, and it changed me for the better. Nova, you and your team are amazing!!!! I am truly in love with the place and I cannot wait to come back next year. Please pass on my deep gratitude and appreciation to everyone.

Many will find the location snd stule of the resort amazjng…. For me, our villa was a bit too close to nature and the surrounding jungle. Our ‘Lotus pond villa’ was tired, old fashioned and not well sealed to prevent nature getting in… hence interrupted sleep from very loud crickets and geckos on the ceiling and mosquito nets and behind furniture. Leaving the a.c. of the bedroom to walk past the pond to access the wc, during the night, running the gauntlet of frogs and lizards and their droppings was tiresome and the overall design was poorly conceived. The bath inset into the pond was not appealing. One night a (wolf?) snake was in it for a while… i suspect it came and went via the plughole. On one occasion the bifold doors had been left open by the cleaners, to air the room I guess but leaving our stuff accessible to the the monkeys. The resort itself has a lot of awkward steps… might be tricky for the elderly or infirm. And its quite a way from central Ubud… if thats important to you. I was disappointed with the range of food on menu… compared go our other hotels on the trip. I felt I was being bullied into eating ‘healthily’ through limited choice and small portions. Pool was great and the monkeys not a problem.

Responded 4 days ago
Dear Y2060EGandy Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Alila Ubud. We value your feedback as it helps us to understand our guests' perspectives and continually improve our services. We understand that the proximity to nature at our resort, while often appreciated for its authenticity, may not align with everyone's preferences. Our resort's design and location, nestled within the forest, aim to offer a unique experience in harmony with the surrounding environment. The 'Lotus Pond Villa' and other accommodations are purposefully integrated into the natural landscape to provide an immersive experience, bringing our guests closer to the beauty and simplicity of Balinese nature. We acknowledge your concerns regarding wildlife encounters and the design elements of your villa. Alila Ubud strives to balance authentic natural experiences and guest comfort. Our eco-resort concept focuses on being environmentally conscious and sustainable, which sometimes differs from more conventional luxury hotels. This approach can be reflected in various aspects of our resort, including the design of our rooms and villas, our resort concept, and the local surroundings of our resort. Regarding the distance from central Ubud and the steps around the resort, we aim to provide a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle while still offering accessibility to the town's attractions. We also want to highlight that we provide every day complimentary shuttle service to Ubud Center to all of our guests for those who are looking to explore the beauty of Ubud. We're pleased you enjoyed the pool and found the monkeys' presence unobtrusive on a deeper appreciation for our unique location's natural beauty and serenity. We truly value your patronage and feedback, and we hope that we will have the opportunity to have you here at our hillside resort again. Warm regards, Alila Ubud

This hotel was absolutely beautiful, the pool is just as you see online. We enjoyed many hours looking at the dense jungle and even saw monkeys from our rooms balcony! About 20 minutes outside of downtown Ubud this hotel offers peace and beauty!

This place and staff were so wonderful. Yes there are mosquitoes but we’ve never felt so relaxed staying anywhere else. We got a pool villa and oh my gosh it was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The resort infinity pool overlooking the jungle is incredible. We loved every meal and afternoon tea while staying here. The staff was all so kind and helpful. There are only 2 restaurants on site but there were plenty of food/drink choices to choose from. Breakfast menu changes daily.

Stayed three days on our way back to the UK from Australia. Really glad we did, the staff are wonderful, all the facilities are great and you get a troupe of monkeys coming through in the morning at at tea time. Allow 2 hours to and from the airport as the traffic can be bad.

I was very disappointed with the check in and so called upgrade, I booked a valley villa, and I arrived at 2:30pm, and the manager was so kind to upgrade us to the forest edge suite, which I didn't study this room type, I know there is one room type with the private pool, but as a guest, you will instantly agree for an upgrade of room. but unfortunately, the forest edge room was even lower range than the valley villa, as we didn't it will be something similar or bigger than the valley villa, and this room has only got a terrace for seating before enter the room, and the view is nothing compared to the valley villa. so we decided to return to our valley villa and realised our room was not ready at that time, and the time I asked was already 3pm, which is the standard time for check in. She said my room was occupied by " A royal globalist" so they requested for a late check out, but I am also a globalist, and I wasn't even request for early check in. and I never heard of "royal globalist". so she said my room will not be ready until one hour time, then I was so kind that I offered to go town and have a walk to give them enough time to prepare. then, at the end, she said my room is ready at 4pm. it was just a mess on this check in and I know Alila Ubud was so kind to prepare 2 glasses of champagne and one anniversary cake, but this check in messiness and the room is only available at 4pm was not acceptable and Alila Ubud offered nothing to make up for their mismanagement. So at the end, after I came back from the Town, I eventually check in my room at 5:30 and enjoy the Valley Villa at a very late time due to the "Royal Globalist" took away our anniversary celebration time in room. And one last word is I am also a globalist and never heard about this "Royal Globalist Program". So Alila Ubud don't need to use this way to make me feel that I am not entitled for a standard check in time.
