Travellers' Choice
One of Bali's best-kept secrets, Alila Manggis is a secluded, stylish seaside resort in Manggis, East Bali. Set amidst a coconut grove, the resort nestles between the sea and the majestic Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred mountain. All rooms and suites face the ocean with clear views across the straits to Nusa Penida. A contemporary interpretation of traditional Balinese architecture is artfully combined with modern amenities to create a relaxed environment in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Hotel's Favourite
There are some places where, the moment you step in, you immediately fall in love with. The happiness and kindness of the people here really is heartwarming. This is where you’ll experience true Balinese hospitality. Designed by Kerry Hill architects, the property has aged exceptionally. The beauty of the hotel is truly displayed during golden hour, when the sun lights up the facades with a golden hue. And the shadows dance on the polished floors. Our upgraded deluxe room had the most beautiful views of the ocean and pool area. We especially enjoyed the daybed on the balcony where we could simply laze on and relax for hours. The rooms are not luxurious however, had a clean, zen, aesthetic that we loved. The main pool area is mesmerizing, with such a peaceful design, and never got crowded. Sun beds were readily available and there were pool staff on hand to assist with any requests. Staff were seen cleaning the pool periodically and the water temperature was kept at a comfortable level for swimming. A stay at the Alila Manggis would not be complete without a visit to the next level spa. We spent hours trying different treatments and loved them all. Their spa treatment Balés are situated right in front of the ocean with the most breathtaking views. Having a massage while listening to the waves crash on shore, and enjoying the calm sea breeze really was heavenly. The massage therapists were experienced and had amazing technique. Breakfast at Seasalt restaurant is presented A La Carte style with an extensive menu to satisfy all palates. Every morning we started with a traditional Balinese Jamu, followed by fresh juices, fruit, egg creations, Indonesian favorites. We also had a private seafood dinner that was phenomenal, fresh red snapper, tiger prawns, lobster grilled to perfection served in Balinese style. The setting was by the ocean, and we were taken care by the executive chef himself and a dedicated group of staff. Exquisite. While the Alila Manggis advertises themselves as a four star hotel on their website, the service is definitely six stars. Everyone working here knew what they were doing and was extremely friendly and efficient. This is not the “systematic” service that you will find in mega resorts in Nusa Dua, but a more personalized, elegant and friendly service. Management checked on us twice during our stay to make sure that we were enjoying our stay and had everything we needed. The front office staff checked in with us multiple times a day to ask how our day was. The attention paid to detail was extraordinary. The resort manager saw that I bought some dragon fruit and asked if she could send them to the kitchen to have them prepared and served daily to our room. Was she required to go this extra mile? No, but she extended a kind gesture and these small details really make all the difference. When we inquired about a seafood barbecue dinner the front office immediately sent restaurant staff and also the executive chef himself to come chat with us and curate a special dinner menu to suite our needs. The service was overall so friendly, proactive yet unobtrusive and refined. Bali has a kaleidoscope of luxury hotel options and the Alila Manggis is a hidden gem. The hotel offers such great value, especially when all the staff work so hard to perfect your experience. The spirit and vibe of East Bali and the Alila Manggis is captivating. We will be back.

Responded 28 Aug 2022
Dear bbrianchen, It was nice meeting you at our property and hope you arrived home safely. We truly love reading your beautiful written comment that marking of every single aspect that you had experience with during your stay. This will help us allot for other guests understand the East of Bali and why visiting East Bali is a must since most of the people thought the destination is too far and not worth to visit some time. We will definitely share your comment with the entire team and looking forward to welcoming you back in the future. Once again thank you very much and wish you a great day....

Ms. Suseni and the entire Alila Manggis staff were very hospitable and friendly. They offered many experiences which I booked during my 3 nights stay. I booked trekking along the ride paddies and the jungle with durian trees and other fruits which ended in Desa Tenganan, a little town full of history. The trek was about 8km distance. If you're lucky, you can buy and eat durian there. I also did the snorkeling but the location, Padang Bai, had some plastic trash floating. They also have bicycles to use for free which I took advantage of and rode to Pasar Ulakan where you can buy various fruits. I bought wani which is a variant of mango and only found in Bali AFAIK. I also rode the two recommended bike routes which was 10km for medium and 6km for easy difficulty. The location is pretty humid but they do have dehumidifier which you can request during your stay. I'd love to go back to Alila Manggis if I get the chance again.

This property is a true hidden gem for Hyatt in Bali and perfect for anyone seeking a getaway at somewhere quiet and calm. All rooms have the view of the sea and we were allocated Room 207 which is by the corner and has a great view of the ocean, restaurant and pool. Even though there is only one restaurant in the property, it is sufficient for a good breakfast, lunch or dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast which is all-you-can-eat via an a la carte menu. The Congee dishes and Mee Goreng were highlights for us. There were also other restaurants within walking distance from the Hotel. During our stay, we went out to the sea for fishing and caught some fishes and crabs. The Hotel was able to cook them for us for 225IDR. Other facilities include a badminton court, swimming pool, and SPA facilities. There is also daily complimentary shuttle bus to nearby towns as well as tai-chi or yoga classes. Overall, this place is a fantastic choice when the weather is great.

We were warmly greeted at reception and provided with cool refreshments and a cold towel. Lovely! We were a little early so had lunch at the only restaurant which was lovely and service excellent. Homemade bread offered as a starter was absolutely delicious. The surrounding were stunning and gardens immaculate. The pool and bar while lovely did not have enough seating on our first day we arrived as the complex was fully booked. There was competition for seating so people hogged them. Recommend that bar stools be considered at the bar and limit people placing items on pool chairs to save them while heading off to lunch. Eg you move, you relinquish your chair. In room products were good - hair conditioner and shower gel excellent 👍 Mozzies were relentless and no protection offered at dining/bar tables. Recommend offering mosquito spray for diners. 🌸 Out door game, one net for shuttle cock but no other uses such as volley ball. Recommend a soft volley ball. Had an unused space set up with conference chairs. No gift shop or games room, however, suspect they are like others businesses trying to rise again after Covid 👍 Meals were 5*. And the cracked pepper and sea salt a lovely touch. Particularly given how much we were sweating, the extra sodium was needed and delicious. The dinner and lunch menu were different to each other and wonderful. They had people from other places book in for dinner and we could see why! The best food we have had on the island. They make their own in seasonal jams and we had dragon fruit and coconut which were sensational. Joni and Sari provided amazing service and talked us through choices and gave us background information which was always helpful. We used in-room dining and that was as good as dining. Impressed that it came with a fold up table for our room and bamboo warmer for our meals. Everything had western prices. And taxes of 21% were only realised after we committed to the booking. There was no happy hour. 🥺. We ordered cocktails and they were overly bust. We finally found one that was ok. However, the prices were comparable to home prices so we limited ourselves over our stay eg Bali white wine $15 150ml, coffee $5. Local Sav Blanc very good 👍 Constructive feedback, we recommend that guests prior to booking read the fine print regarding taxes and service charge costs. For us that was an extra 21% on a 5 * experience. Having said that we pre-purchased all meals. They were amazing! We experienced Wi Fi drop out in our building - we had to stand up and go to the window. We were in rooms 209 and 210. Minor issue that can be dealt with a wifi booster. 👍 Afternoon tea with herbal teas between 3-5pm - lovely and displayed effort and quality. Constructive feedback is to install bar stools when the complex is fully booked. On our first day, we had to stand due to limited seating. My husband managed the checkout and it was his fault that he didn’t advise the Manager of some of these details when he was sskef!

The service and the food is excellent. Rooms are rather small and simple for that sort of a hotel. Since the beach does not allow you to swim in the ocean, we would use the pool, if it was deep enough to swim! The nearby Virgin beach is excellent though, you only need a transfer that takes 30 minutes there. But there you get all you need.
