Jayakarta Do not stay at this hotel. There’s a reason why it always comes up first in a hotel search… it’s never full. My friend and I had the worst hotel experience of our lives. It’s emphatically not a 4 star hotel. I wouldn’t even give it 2. The pools are hotter than hell, the pavers burn your feet. No shade at all around the pools and only a few umbrellas. The food was below par. The internet was hit and miss, mostly miss. The water in the shower was brown - see photo. The queen bed was two singles out together and sagged in the middle. Paving cracked everywhere. The kids playground is a dystopian nightmare. I wouldn’t let a zombie kid use it - see photos. No plugs near bed. Mould on beds and pillows. Filth everywhere, visiting cats screaming at door. Bull ants in bed and bathroom. It was 95 a night, I wouldn’t stay there for free. The people that liked it were drunk bogans who punched on all night.

A great all rounder, ticks a lot of boxes for couples, family’s or singles. 3 pools ( one with wet bar ), on site restaurant, room services, tidy grounds and friendly staff. The room we stayed in on the first floor was fresh overlooking the gardens near the pool on the first floor. Some buildings are 3 levels and I don’t think have lift, so consider this when booking. Small supermarket straight out the front, transport, coffee, bars, ATM all very handy and direct access out the back onto the beach for a swim or ice cold drink , chat or massage at the friendly Jacky’s Casanova beach bar.

Between my family and I have stayed at the Jayakarta many times over the years. It is an older hotel but the grounds are beautiful and great size pools to swim in. Great location on the beach. Staff have always been lovely to my family. Breakfast has a good variety of food.

I wanted a break from the cold and gray January weather in England so The Jayakarta Hotel (The Jayakarta Bali Beach Resort) is my perfect escape. The hotel has hints of traditional Balinese features and is a tranquil well established hotel right in the middle of a popular hive of tourist activity. The Jayakarta is resplendent with lush green garden's (that few other hotels can offer) and three swimming pools, that add to the feeling of generous space. From the dramatic long drive-up entrance to the leafy garden area that leads directly onto the beach, the Jayakarta Hotel is splendid. My first encounter with this peaceful hub of exotica was more than 23 years ago when a then young member of the Jayakarta staff (Mr. Mariana) greeted us with a friendly smile and warm welcoming manner. From the housekeeping boy, (Mr.Ade) who left my room clean and tidy, to the restaurant staff who prepared my morning eggs and coffee just the way I like them, a big thank you. I highly recommend a stay here, in fact I recommend a long stay here.

My wife and I traveled for Xmas and New Years and got a deal with flights and accommodation. Now we were told that this place is dated but comfortable and that couldn't be more truthful. The Jarakarta chain is Chinese owned so I have no doubt that funding is the issue... so why don't they update the rooms and facilities. The grounds are really beautiful but the gardening cycles are too slow. When we arrived the grass was quite high and although is a large task, throw some more labour at it and keep on top of it. With our deal we obliviously got what we paid for and we found ourselves (quite seasoned world travelers) for the very first time asking and receiving an upgrade which we happily paid the AUD$10 extra per night. Our room was still tired and need some attention. Broken tiles, poor showers in both rooms and our biggest issue, no room safe. We did know this going in but there are actually no room safes in the entire resort so a safety deposit box at reception does the trick. Once again, spend some money and put a safe in each room. In the 12 days, 11 nights we spent there, zero pest control was done and given the wet conditions we had mosquitos in our room every night. Food and drinks were your typical pricing and the pool swim up bar was utilised quite a bit. The staff were great. Very accommodation and friendly but I couldn't help but feel they know all these things need doing and it must be a constant frustration working for a company that wont spend the money to update the facilities and rooms. Location was probably the best thing. We have done Bali quite a few times but this area so far was the best area we have stayed for bars and restaurants withing walking distance from the resort. These guys are sitting on so much potential and what a place it must have been when it was built. Problem is they haven't kept up with the very immediate competing resorts just metres away from them.

On appearances it is a very large & grand hotel. On being a guest for the last 7 days with 3 to go it’s getting tiresome. What they get correct: Staff are extremely helpful & friendly as you would expect from the Balinese people. What is a bit crap: Breakfast buffet is very poor on offerings. Unless you only like fresh fruit & omelette. Fried rice is bland as well as the fried noodles (which is a Bali speciality) & can get on the beach perfectly for a couple of dollars; Do not have there own homemade chilli sambel, just in a packet like I’m at a McDonalds. Even the crazy cheap restaurants have their own version of this national side dish. Not enough pool towels, only half the beds where taken & they ran out. Before NYE there was enough pool umbrellas for all the sunbeds, which were removed for the festivities. Now there is not enough (we’re did they go eh). Rooms are a little musty. They need a good scrub or bring some scented candles. Regulating the shower temp was daily mission. The setting that was good yesterday will be ridiculous to hot or cold the next. Overall the location is excellent being virtually on the beach, but there is a lot better being on the higher price point. 25 years ago it would have been world class with expansive gardens & beautiful Balinese feel to the place. It’s just tired & requires some TLC or investment.

Rooms are dirty. Needs renovations. Very basic. Pool is heated like a hot spa. Everything is broken. Would not recommended. Staff are friendly. Food is very average. Don't bother asking for a extra 30 minutes to check out. No chance! Much better options for hotel stays. They need to do major renovations. Below average.

The hotel is in a great location. Right on the beach and close to shops, bars and restaurants. Great poolside area too. Breakfast was same-same but passable. Rooms dingy and smelled like damp. Probably the A/C which was great. Rooms were cleaned daily and complimentary bottle of water per guest daily (the cleaner was so lovely too) Only slept in there and to get ready so no biggie. No safe in the rooms, only at reception. Room service food was lovely. On more than one occasion, the waiter didn’t bring back change for the drinks. Also short changed at the ice-cream counter and challenged them about this but gave up with the argument in the end. It’s not so much the money ($1 here and there) but I don’t like that you can’t just trust that you’re being looked after as a guest, and that the staff are being honest. Felt like we constantly had to have our wits about us. Sun beds were sparse so we mainly went to the beach. Despite the towel counter recording your room number when taking towels, you weren’t allowed to take them on the beds at the beach (there were 7 of us so it was the only way we could all sit together). I’d rather pay a deposit and be allowed to do so, as none of us took beach towels. So take sarongs and towels with you. Definitely not a 4 star hotel, more a 3.
