Detailed Reviews
A fabulous beachfront hotel. The rooms are comfortable, and luxuriously furnished, with great attention to detail. All rooms have a terrace or balcony, some are immediately overlooking the beach, and the others only a few steps away. There is a swimming pool adjoining the beach, a bar, and a great restaurant with excellent reasonably priced food for all palates.
The hotel grounds are exceptionally kept with beautiful water features, flowering plants and manicured grass.
The beach is lined with fishing boats, some of which leave early in the morning. Snorkelling is good at high tide off the beach.
As the beach is grainy black sand , with small pieces of coral and stones leading into the water, it is advisable to bring suitable footwear if you are intending to snorkel.
The hotel is some distance north (about 3 - 4 hours) from Denpasar airport, but the journey by road is an interesting one through the countryside and partially along the coast. The village of Amed is a fairly small and strung out along the road, nowhere as busy as Sanur and other beach areas further south. Despite the long road journey we welcomed a few days spent at Palm Garden as really relaxing and enjoyable.

We returned to Palm Garden resort for the third time over many years, and stayed in an ocean view bungalow with private pool. The surrounding area is a little bit more developed than when we last stayed there, but still beautiful.
The grounds are beautifully kept, with lush gardens and beautiful vibrant flowers. It’s a true joy to be there. The private pool was lovely, and we had many swims through our stay. The rooms are clean and cool and the outdoor bathroom was lovely too.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and professional and they are a real asset to the business.
Swimming in the ocean was a highlight as well, it’s such a beautiful place.
The beach is a working beach, so there are boats used by fishermen with early starts. Truthfully they didn’t really wake us up much but you can hear them. We really liked being able to see some of everyday life in Bali, rather than being stuck in a resort, isolated from local people.
The resort is a bit further away from the main area of Amed, but there is a fantastic warung within walking distance. The resort food was delicious too, we ate several meals there and enjoyed them.
We had many massages in the spa, and it was so relaxing. The place is a real delight and I would recommend it. We’re already dreaming of our next trip to Amed, and Garden.

This place is lovely. We had one of the two private bungalows facing the beach and they are so detailed and perfect. The pool is lovely. Like many other places it’s about 15 mins further south than Amed proper but we loved the isolation.
One negative: if you are in a beach side bungalow you will be approached by people selling everything/anything from the beach 10 feet away. Normally I’m fine with this but it’s so persistent and inescapable it effects your stay.

The hotel looks modern, clean and luxurious. At first, the staff gave us a friendly impression because of our welcome-juice but then we recognised a change. They offer services and products that they can not afford: post stamps for postcards but they had nothing. Instead they suggested that they will call a driver for 160.000 IDR who will drop us at the Adi shop to buy some stamps (no return). That is unnecessary! The staff was also very curious and always wanted to know where we are going. We went to the Warung Amed Paradise because the staff there is much more helpful, friendlier and the food delicious and not so over expensive than in Palm Garden Amed Beach’s Restaurant.

We are a middle aged couple who turned up at the restaurant for a coffee at 10.30am but were rudely driven away. “Not possible” was the response from the waitress! The restaurant wouldn’t open till 12 so we were told to return at that time. She pointed out that we couldn’t swim in the pool which we hadn’t intended to anyway, but was also reluctant to let us swim in the ocean at her beach! We have never experienced this in Amed before. The management need to take this seriously, to contact me, I’m in room 102 at Arya Resort in Amed for another 2 weeks. Not happy Jan.

The positive upfront: a beautiful little place with a nice pool and shattered bungalows, clean, friendly staff and good food.
The bungalows are small and not very private (big windows with direct view in your bed) and very close to each other. The resort is small and squeezed between a beach full of fisherboots and the noisy village (due to the motorcycles you hear all day and the coqs and boots from 5 am on). It is charming in the sense that the area is beautiful and the village gives you a flavour of the original Bali. Your need however a motorbike or taxi driver to move from there.
The worst was that there was a noisy construction going on while we stayed, building a higher wall. The hotel tried to adjust the noise level when we were there, but it was still problematic and we were annoyed that we always had to discuss with them. Generally, we could not really relax during our stay.

A comfortable hotel in the city of Amed. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The restaurant is good and fast. Small downside however for the noise at night (road and animals).
We recommend snorkeling!
Very beautiful sea view with an infinity pool and possibility of spa treatments.

We actually visited in June 2017, but it wouldn't let me date that far back. Amed was our first stop on our Honeymoon in Bali. Wow! What a place. We stayed in a beautiful bungalow with private pool. I loved our room and unique outdoor bathroom. I loved that every day a rooster would run by our room. We fell in love with the snorkeling right out front at the beach. There were thousands of fish swimming all along the reef. The staff were so nice, doing everything to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We were greeted every morning, and the manager was wonderful. There were fisherman who would come and go from the beach on their boats. It was very cool to be able to witness real life in Bali and not just the tourist areas. I like to immerse myself into a culture when I travel. I never found it to be loud or bothersome. My husband and I absolutely loved our stay. Amed is a true vision of Bali's untouched beauty. We definitely look forward to returning to Palm Gardens again in the future.

Recently returned from Bali and Lombok and split the 15 day trip into 3 segments. First was Sanur, as a central location to take advantage of various day tours. Second was in the Amed area, and wrapped up the trip in Gili Trawangan. Each segment was very different from the other, which was the intention in order to have a variety of adventures and cultural experiences.
HIGHLIGHTS OF STAY AT PALM GARDEN:
1. Beautiful Location
Although many visitors to Bali focus their stay in the busy tourist centres around Denpasar, Kuta and Seminyak, I thankfully limited my time in those areas (often stuck in traffic) as part of day trips while in Sanur. I wanted to experience the quieter and less developed side of Bali, and the Amed area on the east coast certainly did not disappoint. This area is comprised of many traditional little fishing villages nestled in beautiful bays along the coast. Palm Garden is in the Lean village, between Selang and Lipah villages. The resort is at the very south end of the bay on a very beautiful, although narrow, sandy beach.
2. Quality Resort
As others have noted, this is a quality property. Less than 3 years old, the owners clearly put their hearts and money into designing an amazing small (10 unit) resort. Attention to detail is everywhere. Intricate stone carvings, woodwork, art, landscaping, furnishings, etc. all combine to create a very high end experience. We stayed in Villa 10, which is one of two ocean front villas with amazing views, large deck with comfy patio furniture and a private plunge pool. Also has the largest bathroom (outdoor) that I have ever experienced at a resort.
3. Customer Service
Reception, bar/restaurant, landscaping/maintenance and security staff are all friendly and willing to assist wherever possible. Staff knowledge of English varies, but all spoke enough to get by, and would refer you to others if they didn't fully understand your question/request. Little things like having sarongs, power converters and flashlights (for evening walks), and 2 courtesy bottles of water per villa per day available all contribute to a quality experience. The Swiss owners live on site most of the year. They introduced themselves upon arrival, were available to answer any questions, but stayed in the background. A special note of appreciation to Orlando (owner and managing director) who went the extra mile prior to my visit to assist with a domestic airline reservation.
4. Bar/Restaurant
Although the resort is very small, it has a full service bar/restaurant from early morning until late evening. Breakfast is included (and available until noon!), with guests able to choose from 3 sections from an a la carte menu. For a small resort, the range and choice of dinner options is surprisingly broad and reasonably priced. As in any restaurant, service is quicker when not as many guests are seated.
5. Good Snorkeling
The Amed area promotes itself as having some of the best snorkeling and diving in Bali. My expectations in this regard were pretty high, as I have had the good fortune to snorkel at many of the world's top locations. Although not fully meeting my expectations with respect to the quality of corals, the snorkeling in the Amed area is generally good (again keeping in mind my comparisons to past experiences), and is certainly better than most of what I subsequently saw at the Gili Islands. There is good snorkeling right off the beach in front of Palm Garden, and better if you swim south around the point to Selang Beach. I snorkelled at several other beaches including Lipah and Jemeluk, but found nothing better than Selang.
SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE YOUR STAY BETTER:
1. Explore the Culture of the Local Villages
Be sure to venture outside of the resort and walk through the local villages to experience the culture and daily routines of the residents. Even a 30 minute walk either south or north (I preferred north) of the resort will be a real eye opener of how basic life is in this area. Always felt very safe, and everyone was very friendly, with relatively few locals trying to sell you their goods. If you are tired and want a ride back to the resort, many locals will offer you 'transport'. More than once, when I asked what the cost would be, the reply I got was it was up to me to decide the amount.
2. Consider Stocking up on Drinks and Snacks Prior to Arrival
Although the villas have very reasonably priced mini bars for beer and sodas, you may wish to consider bringing your alcohol and snack preferences with you. There are a couple of small stores for basics in the next village north Lipah, but this is a bit of a hike with a couple of hills.
3. Remember to Bring Cash
Although Palm resort accepts credit cards, not all restaurants and stores do, and there is no ATM yet within a half hour drive. Locals expect IDR currency for services such as transport, etc.
4. Try Other Restaurants
Although the restaurant at Palm Garden is good, I would recommend also trying nearby Sails (they will transport you to/from their restaurant at no cost). Good menu/food/service, and free bottled water is included with meal, and no service charge automatically included on bill. Life is Amed is another good option (although limited seating) just a few minutes walk north of Palm Garden. Both of these restaurants accept major credit cards.
5. Bring Something to Read
There are thankfully no TV sets or phones in the villas.
6. Swim at High Tide
The beach at Palm Garden is best used during high tide. Once in the water, there is coral that is hard on the feet, so consider bringing or renting water shoes unless you have fins. The coral has been cleared by the fishermen directly in front of villas 9 and 10, to allow easier access for their boats. If the tide is going out when you are swimming, this is the safest place to enter and return to shore. In the alternative, a similar coral clearing is located further north on the beach, close to the rock water break.
7. Consider a Half or Full Day Land Tour
The east coast of Bali is beautiful, and definitely worth exploring. Consider taking a private tour with a local driver to see the sights. A half day tour will cost approx. $30 US and a full day approx. $45 US. Two drivers that I used and would highly recommend as being reliable, friendly, knowledgeable, and speak good English are:
Wayan mangkuredana@yahoo.com
Salit Arsa amed-salit@hotmail.com
I hope that this info helps to make your stay in the Amed area more enjoyable!
Best wishes for a great vacation,
Dave

Well, what can I say about this place. I have never left a poor review on tripadvisor like this, and i never thought i would have to. I live in Ubud, Bali and regularly take trips throughout the island. On this occasion I took a trip up to Amed for the weekend. Before going I managed to locate Palm Garden and thought I would walk in and ask for a room once I arrived. On arrival to the resort I noticed it was right alongside the main road in Amed and quite a lot of traffic noise, but I ventured in to inquire about a room. The resort was very quiet with a few staff members dotted around, none of which greeted us or said a word to us. On reception we spoke to a young lady who showed us two rooms, the standard room and the bungalow. The standard room was very basic, just a bed, fridge, couple of towels, BUT 120 USD. Wow, expensive! The bungalows were nicer, BUT over 200 USD per night. I decided to think about it and have lunch at the resort's restaurant. I asked the distracted waitress for the wifi password during lunch so i could check some reviews of the resort and check their online prices. I was told 'wifi only for guests, sorry'. I kindly pointed out that i was a guest for lunch and i am considering staying that night, and i would like to quickly check the website. I was declined again and told to go to reception. I went over to reception and kindly explained my situation and how I just need to use the wifi for 10 minutes. The lady there told me in no uncertain terms that 'no you cannot have wifi password as you are not a guest!'. Again, I told her how i am considering staying in the bungalow room that night and just want to check something online. Again, sorry, we cannot! She also kindly reminded me that as we were considering to stay just one night, there is a 10% additional charge for our stay, even though it was 6pm in the evening??!! I have never heard of an additional % per night for just a one night stay in any hotel, nevermind a local hotel like this. I travel extensively around Bali/ Asia and stay in luxury and small local-run hotels and i have never faced such poor service. It just amazed me that the staff here went to such an extent to lose my business and now have me writing this review. The vibe in this resort isn't right and the owners need to address it asap. The lunch was so so.

Yes, I didn’t use it but I believe they charge $80 USD. We booked a cab for $50
Yep, there were a few ants mainly, but they were not a problem really - there are insects and bugs everywhere is bali.
